Thanks for tutorial, from here in Wales. Luckily I did not have to sew long strings as the dress I had to alter had spaghetti straps which were just the right length and colour to cut down into the needed length for the hoops. I made bigger straps for the dress with the material I cut off for the hem.

This tutorial is very helpful and timely. But I'm finding it difficult to attach the skirt part to it and also lacing, it is not firm as yours. Is there a way you can explain this part to me?

To attach the skirt to the upper part, you should take note of these 👇
      1. Make sure that the lining of the bodice and the main fabric(bridal satin and lace) are separate. Such that you will be fixing the skirt part to the bodice using the method - fabric to fabric and lining to lining.
      2. The modesty panel will not be fixed to the skirt.
      3. Remember the waist cinching that was done at the center back of the bodice ? What this means is that the upper bodice will be about one inch shorter (2 inches on both sides) than the main skirt i.e it will end about one inch away from the zipper. You can neaten the raw edge with your lining.
As for the lacing not being firm, can you shed more light on this?

Very helpful! Thanks for this . Pls if I want the loop to run all the way to the zipper side of the down part instead of using zip. How do I go about that pls?

You will have to wait until you have attached the bodice to the skirt part of the dress before fixing the loop and the modesty panel - since you want it to be continuous from the bodice down to the skirt of the dress. Also, remember to extend the waist cinching to the center back of the skirt as well- this should be done while drafting the pattern.

This is not advisable for this type of ball dress however - because you will be dealing with a lot of bulk. I used close to 50 yards of tulle for this dress.
Now imagine trying to fix the loop and the modesty panel after sewing the tulle ball skirt to the bodice…..

@@ZERO11KLOTHINGS the dress I'm making doesn't have tulle ! Will I have to remove the zipper allowance of the down part as well?

These are the alterations that you will do on the patterns:
      1. First of all decide where you want the loop to end on the c.b of the skirt. At this point do not add any allowance to the c.b.
Align the bodice and the skirt patterns together at the waist line. You can temporarily hold together with a tape.
      2. Now create the waist cinching effect i.e. mark 2.5 inches inwards on the c.b of the bodice where the loop will start from. And one inch inwards where d loop will end on the c.b of the skirt.
      3. Continue with the alteration just like I did in the tutorial. Also, include the modesty panel as well - also explained in the tutorial.
      4. The only difference between this one and what I did is that the loop won’t end at the waist line - instead it will go below it.
      5. After cutting out, now include a seam allowance of 0.5 inch at the c.b down to the hem of the skirt. Remember that you will still be sewing the center back together….

Do you intend to use a skin net as the lace up and modesty panel?

      @@ZERO11KLOTHINGS yes pls

    • @ZERO11KLOTHINGS
      @ZERO11KLOTHINGS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, you can. But I will advise that you use a skin tone crepe instead.
Net is fragile and it will most likely pull or tear when you are pulling the rope to cinch the waist.
