  • What do you know about Muslim immigration to America?
When did the earliest Muslims arrive?
When did members of this community first arrive in America?
Dr Jerald Dirk received his Bachelor of Arts (philosophy) from Harvard College in 1971, his Master of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School in 1974, his Master of Arts (clinical child psychology) from the University of Denver in 1976, his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in clinical psychology from the University of Denver in 1978, and his sessions program certificate in Islamic studies from Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in 1998.
In 1969, he obtained his License to Preach from the United Methodist Church and was ordained into the Christian ministry (deaconate) by the United Methodist Church in 1972.
He converted to Islam in 1993 and completed the 'Umrah and Hajj in 1999.
His vocational history includes over five years teaching in American colleges and universities and over 20 years spent in the private practice of psychotherapy. In addition, he has taught at the middle school level at two different private Islamic schools and has served as the psychoeducational consultant at one private Islamic school.
Dr. Dirks is the author or co-author of over 60 published articles in the behavioral sciences (primarily in psychosomatic medicine), over 140 published articles on the Arabian horse and its history, and over 220 published articles or formal presentations on Islam, comparative religion, and private Islamic education in America.
He has lectured widely on Islam at American universities (Tabor College, University of Kansas, University of Denver, Oklahoma State University, Missouri State University, Wayne State University, University of Michigan, University of Pittsburgh, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Georgetown University), in American mosques (in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia), and at regional and national conventions of the major Islamic organizations (ISNA, ICNA, and MAS).
In addition, he has been interviewed about Islam by newspapers in California, Colorado, Missouri, and Saudi Arabia and by television stations in Kansas, New York, Texas, Utah, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates. He is the author of four books that explore the commonalities and differences among the three Abrahamic religions (Islam, Christianity, and Judaism): The Cross and the Crescent, now in its second printing; Abraham, The Friend of God; Understanding Islam--A Guide for the Judaeo-Christian Reader; and The Abrahamic Faiths--Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
His fifth book, Muslims in American History--A Forgotten Legacy was published in 2006 and celebrates the centuries-old history of Muslims in America. His sixth book, Letters to My Elders in Islam, was published in 2008. Dr. Dirks has also proofread and/or edited several books for other authors.
The Topic: Muslims in American History: A Forgotten Legacy

I'm so amazed at how little Americans know of our history beyond what we are allowed to read and learn in school. There's no excuse because as adult we have to continue to expand our knowledge.

i greet you peacefully. i remember GOD and thank GOD. i am an American Muslim woman who converted to Islam back in 1983. my first husband was raised Catholic and my deceased brother's wife was raised Catholic.
Although the pope, pope Francis, has done things for the poor and oppressed, he needs to stop lying about GOD.
Pope Francis must admit that GOD is not one of three, nor is GOD three in one.
GOD Is The ONE and only GOD; GOD Is The Creator, GOD Is Alive and GOD never dies.
GOD is not a "father". I think that the Pope and others well know who a father is. Even if the parents of a child were not married, still people understand that something from a man went into a woman, and then GOD Made the child grow in the mother and then the baby came out, and lived, and grew. It is very important that children know who their father is, and to not call priests "father". GOD never referred to Himself as "father".
As for the other two ones that people said were in the group of three, that they spoke of, i would like to address the subject of "Jesus, and who is Jesus?".
Jesus was a human man who GOD Formed in the womb of Mary without Mary having sexual relations with any man, and she was not married. Hence the beginning of Jesus's growth inside of Mary's womb was not typical. it was a miracle Created by GOD only. Jesus is a man who had a mother, Mary, and no father. However, Adam had no mother or father. Adam was still a human, as Jesus was a human, and you and i are humans.
as for the third one that some claimed were in a group of three, this one was called "the holy spirit". GOD Well Knows what people were really referring to when they spoke of "witnessing" a "holy spirit".
It might have been an angel. It might have been a genie. Not all genies were devils, but it might have been a devil genie. it might have been just a good feeling that the person felt and they saw nothing.
Jesus, priests, angels and genies all do not hear everything. GOD, however, Hears every word spoken by all humans, angels and genies, even if they speak at the same time. In addition know that GOD Comprehends the words spoken by all the people and what they were meaning and implying. We do not see GOD while alive now, however GOD Is With us always, and GOD never sleeps nor does GOD become unaware.
Pope Francis must tell the people to only pray to GOD, and not to Jesus. Pope Francis must tell the people to stop confessing sins to priests, and instead he should tell the people what the sins are, urge people not to sin, tell people how to repent of sins, and tell people that only GOD Forgives sins if humans commit sins.
i ask GOD humbly that this article does reach Pope Francis. GOD Blessed us. GOD Is Ever Loving and Caring. jocelyn poesnecker

WOMAN WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT GOD , YOUR OPINION IS ONLY WORTH HALF OF MINE AND IM A MAN .... SO UNDER YOUR BELIEF YOU AUTOMATICALLY LOSE YOUR POINT OF VIEW.... PERIOD. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME READ WHAT YOUR FALSE PEDO PROPHET SAY ABOUT YOU BELOW.
....women don't be dumb look at what islam says about you....
Narated By Abu Said Al-Khudri : Once Allah's Apostle went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) o 'Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's Apostle ?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you." The women asked, "O Allah's Apostle! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?" He said, "Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?" They replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her religion."

Emerson did enjoy many aspects of Quranic wisdom as he wrote in his journals about the Oversoul from which one might transcend into another realm spiritually-he also commented upon the line from Quran, “Take not for friends those who jest about their religions.” I imagine that as a Unitarian minister, Emerson was of serious ilk, passionately intrigued by the Presence of God.

After they destroyed the rule of Muslims in Spain they created the kingdom of Morrocco which had The founders of the American republic, as high-degree Freemasons, were aware of the importance of Moorish wisdom and culture to the birth of Western civilisation. This may explain why Morocco was the first nation in history to recognise the United States, and what’s really behind the story of George Washington being presented with a Moorish flag. Some researchers believe this flag consisted of a red background with a green five-pointed star in the centre of it. The star or pentagram, which the Moors called the Seal of Sulaiyman and coloured green to honour Islam, also figures prominently in Masonic art and architecture. The layout of the city of Washington D.C. - designed by Freemasons - incorporates the pentagram.

IN THE NEW TESTAMENT, JESUS is reputed to have said,
“I did not come to bring peace on earth, but a sword” (Matt.
10:34). Truer words were never spoken. Many Christians in the
modern age think of their religion as peace loving, as well it often
has been and should be. But anyone with any grasp of history at
all knows also just how violent Christians have been over the
ages, sponsoring oppression, injustice, wars, crusades, pogroms,
inquisitions, HOLOCAUSTS-all in the name of the faith. cont.

Surah An-Nur 24 (The Light) Ayah verse of Light 35. Translated by Muhammed M. Pickthall a British convert to Islam.
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The similitude of His light is as a niche
wherein is a lamp. The lamp is in a glass. The glass is as it were a shining star. (This lamp is) kindled from a blessed tree, an olive neither of the East nor of the West, whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself) though no fire touched it. Light upon light. Allah guideth unto His light whom He will. And Allah speaketh to mankind in allegories, for Allah is Knower of all things.
Allah bless the people in America and guide them and protect them.

    explain this:
Qur’an 3:110-You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allah. And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are Al-Fasiqun (disobedient to Allah & rebellious against Allah's Command).

faith; maybe they were violating the true principles of their own
religion; maybe they were out of touch with the peace-loving
teachings of the Good Shepherd of the sheep. And no one should

You do realise that there are also cities/towns named Lisbon, London,Paris and with some other European, Nordic and Even Russian or African names, because the core population came from those original european, russian or african places, right!? There is a place called Little Sumalia because most of the people living there are Sumali and were forced to go to America because of the tribal/ethnic wars done by the warlonds.A town named after an Arabic/muslim town does not mean or prove that muslims arived in America first!? That is just a way of imigrants to name the place where they now live with what is known to them and to their culture to that they might feal "closer to home"...I´m quite shure that you might find some town called Babilonia...and that dosent mean that Babilonians were the first to arive there...and Hell´s Kitchen...is not really the devils/shaitan´s kitchen in Hell!! :)

newsflash, this random dude doesnt have the power to "hand over this land" and most white americans don't have the privilege of returning to europe even if they wanted to, since the only ways to get permanent residency or citizenship in most european countries is via a spouse, or a recent family member like a parent of grandparent lmao

The lost tribes of Isreal were those peoples who didn't know the scriptures at that time, the gentiles.
My question is why Islam contents that Jews did not really excist, Mozes was a moslim like David (Dawud) was,
whereas if it deals about Jezus, Islam says Jezua only meant the jews, when He talked about the lost tribes of Israël. Quite contradictorry.

Salam alaikum. To be solely in Islam is firstly to establish faith in the unseen God, prophets, scriptures etc. Secondly to physically bow and prostrate in total submission on time regularly after purification and also follow other physical activities commanded and recommended in daily life and thirdly to self program with the scripture the holy Quran to identify and establish truth and justice and stand against falsehood, injustices and oppression. They will get their rewards from their Lord.

Unfortunately, history is recorded in books, so it may be difficult to convince you on what is fact and what is false. The mural was just an example to show that at least someone from the United States saw Islam as a contributor to civilization, along with Spain, Rome, Judea, etc. In terms of contribution, Islam did a lot. I went to an exhibit called 1001 Inventions while I was on a trip to Istanbul. Here's a brief introduction, with Sir Ben Kingsley as Al Jazari. watch?v=JZDe9DCx7Wk

Thanks,!. Many believe blacks have done little to contribute to the betterment of society, but I don't see it that way. There has been some major knowledge discovered by blacks. NOT THEIR religion! I've seen discoveries made by ARABS, Chinese, Japanese and many other peoples around the world. The only religion, if I may call Christianity that (which it certainly is not a "religion") is to love one another and to see others better than themselves. Conduct is the major contribution. cont

Yes, the founders of the United States have mainly referred to God as to how He's seen in Christianity. As for your last sentence, from what I have read of the Quran (Al Imran 84), it clearly states that Abraham, Issac, and Jacob were prophets of God. There's no "god of Islam." It's the same deity all throughout Judaism and Christianity, it's just that the beliefs surrounding God are different.
