Considering prior bomberman games overall gameplay and stage design was simple. This is a big upgrade, stages are starting to become even more complex, the enemies became even more varied than just "random movement" or "chase the player", this game introduced for the first time Bomb Kick and Line Bombs(iconic items that became standard in the franchise). Though it's sequel (if you want to consider it), Bomberman'94 is a better game for the console.
the music on the techo planet stage sounds like a remix of stage 1's music with different parts. seven planets, not bad for a game like this. it kinda tops six stages the snes games (1, 2, and 3), and nes bomberman 2 can only manage to accommodate. the fourth and fifth games managed five and six respectively. the game boy games had at least 14 stages between them. this game is a real challenge because you have to kill all the enemies to clear a level and some power ups and abilities are lost if you lose a life.
