Jonna, my idea of why you love the ice sounds so much is this: your ancient ancestors probably heard the same sounds and wanted more than ANYTHING to record and hear those sounds later on, but they just didnt have the technology yet. I feel exactly the same. Although Jonna's videos do both, they make me feel at peace but also in pain at the same time because I can't seem to be able to free myself like Jonna could.

It was 25 years ago when I decided to go meet up with some friends I had made online in Scandinavia, particularly Denmark, Norway and Sweden. I was just 19, had never really left the US but felt connected to these people. I fell in complete love with the region, the people, the cities, the wilderness, the seas, I loved these people so much that less than a year later I went back for nearly a month, and then another month after that. They came to visit me in the states as well, and it got to the point where we'd somehow see each other in person every 3-6 months for a few years. As is typical, time brought changes, spouses, children and careers, I haven't gone back in nearly 22 years, and haven't seen any of them in person in just under 20, we're lucky if we speak over the phone every few years now... I miss them so dearly and not a single day goes by that I don't think about them, about Scandinavia, about the northern lights in Alesund and Trondeim, the Little Mermaid & endless Tuborgs in Tivoli and Christiania, Semlas and coffee in the rain in Stockholm, getting lost in Arhus, drunk running into the freezing Baltic sea on Bornholm and playing in rain puddles in Copenhagen like a little boy with my dear friend Lone. I wouldn't trade my life with my family for anything, but I left a huge piece of my heart that part of the world. If you get a chance, spend 30 days traveling across Scandinavia, it will change you forever.
Why did you never move there? I felt sad reading your story and wished for you to find your happiness in Scandinavia. It sounds like your soul belongs there. All the love to you my friend
@@Daemonenkoenigin13 I appreciate the sentiment. It was entirely my plan to move there, and I still tried to for at least a few years. I met my future wife following my last trip there and we had our first daughter just two years later. The new plan became finding a job there as an expat bringing the family along, closest I could find was a 2 year contract in Heidelberg Germany, which honestly was close enough and I figured I could try to find something in Denmark, Norway or Sweden while we lived in Germany. We were in the middle of accepting the Heidelberg contract when my mom got sick, which scuttled the job and move, so we had to find a local place for a bit, ended up in a lease, then came across a place that we wanted to raise our family. My career was moving, we got an opportunity to buy a hair and tanning salon for my wife, got pregnant with my 2nd daughter and the story continues with more roots getting laid as time goes by. Once you are married, own a business, have kids in school, own a home, it's really hard to make a move like that. I would not change a thing and love my family, definitely left a piece of me there. Even with all those roots in your current home, I still wish for you to come across a chance that leads you back to the north (if that's still your wish). Even if you ended up living in Scandinavia for only a few months, I believe it would be a fantastic experience you wouldn't want to miss once you had it. @@elsie4802 I have walked on ice like that(way further south in Sweden. Färnebofjärden national park by Dalälven where I actually spent the summers as a kid along time ago.) . It is usually perfectly safe since it often happens when the temperature is falling quickly. We say that the ice sings (isen sjunger). A powerful feeling.You can both hear that high pitched sound (almost sounding synthetic) and also sometimes really low rumbles that almost sounds like there is some living creature lurking around. It feels like something mystic is going on, almost like its "natures own live, slightly evil, magic show! 🪄
I long to find my tribe as you have found people who make you feel connected. As someone who also loves being alone... I felt the energy y'all shared through the lens and it warmed my heart. I’m a 75 year young man with frostbite on both feet and both hands living in a 1444 sq ft manufactured home about a mile from the Pacific Ocean on the north shore of the Monterey Bay in Santa Cruz California USA. I ride an electric assist Gazelle bicycle 3-5 times a week 20+ miles each time. While I have a Honda Del Sol and a camper, I rarely ever drive. Really love you and your videos. Just visited Abisko 10 days ago. It was the best experience in my life and I am so sad that i had to return back from that magical place. I miss them so dearly and not a single day goes by that I don't think about them, about Scandinavia, about the northern lights in Alesund and Trondeim, the Little Mermaid & endless Tuborgs in Tivoli and Christiania, Semlas and coffee in the rain in Stockholm, getting lost in Arhus, drunk running into the freezing Baltic sea on Bornholm and playing in rain puddles in Copenhagen like a little boy with my dear friend Lone. I wouldn't trade my life with my family for anything, but I left a huge piece of my heart that part of the world. If you get a chance, spend 30 days traveling across Scandinavia, it will change you forever.

@@Daemonenkoenigin13 I appreciate the sentiment. It was entirely my plan to move there, and I still tried to for at least a few years. I met my future wife following my last trip there and we had our first daughter just two years later. The new plan became finding a job there as an expat bringing the family along, closest I could find was a 2 year contract in Heidelberg Germany, which honestly was close enough and I figured I could try to find something in Denmark, Norway or Sweden while we lived in Germany. We were in the middle of accepting the Heidelberg contract when my mom got sick, which scuttled the job and move, so we had to find a local place for a bit, ended up in a lease, then came across a place that we wanted to raise our family. My career was moving, we got an opportunity to buy a hair and tanning salon for my wife, got pregnant with my 2nd daughter and the story continues with more roots getting laid as time goes by. Once you are married, own a business, have kids in school, own a home, it's really hard to make a move like that.
I would not change a thing and love my family, definitely left a piece of me there. Thank you for the kind words!

Even with all those roots in your current home, I still wish for you to come across a chance that leads you back to the north (if that's still your wish). I like to believe that it's never too late, and that it's always worth a try to follow ones' heart. Even if you ended up living in Scandinavia for only a few months, I believe it would be a fantastic experience you wouldn't want to miss once you had it. @@elsie4802 I have walked on ice like that(way further south in Sweden. Färnebofjärden national park by Dalälven where I actually spent the summers as a kid along time ago.) .
It is usually perfectly safe since it often happens when the temperature is falling quickly. We say that the ice sings (isen sjunger). A powerful feeling.You can both hear that high pitched sound (almost sounding synthetic) and also sometimes really low rumbles that almost sounds like there is some living creature lurking around.
It feels like something mystic is going on, almost like its "natures own live, slightly evil, magic show!

Love it Jonna. I've been learning how to live in Northern Sweden these past couple of months. Adjusting to daily -20 temperatures, the long dark nights. You learn to prioritise being outside when it's light, soak up any winter sun and it's just beautiful. You've captured it so well! Much love!!

I ride an electric assist Gazelle bicycle 3-5 times a week 20+ miles each time. While I have a Honda Del Sol and a camper, I rarely ever drive. Really love you and your videos.

Just visited Abisko 10 days ago. It was the best experience in my life and I am so sad that i had to return back from that magical place. I experienced THE cold (-32), rode on sledgedogs, saw reindeers, aurora, swam in ice-cold water and all other crazy and wonderful stuff. You are the reason why i wanted to go there, I was inspired by your videos. And it was well worth it! Thank you for doing what you do
