    That victory jumpstarted Detroit even though it too little too late. The Lions went on to win thier final 4 games and finished 7-9

    For one play, Barry Redden was looking more like...Barry Sanders.

  • @marcus813

    I wouldn't call Redden the "hot hand" after one good carry, but Bud Carson should've given him another shot. He wouldn't have done any worse than the other halfbacks did.

    Two teams that always play on Thanksgiving are the Lions and the Cowboys. The Lions started it because their owner at the time had a deal with one of the broadcast networks

    I'm not a Jags fan, but damn I'm glad they got rid of the two-color helmets. On another note, is Brian Daboll Carson's love child or something? Finding something that works and then abandoning that seems to be a Daboll calling card.

    Redden wasn't even touched on that run lol. More like, great blocking/poor defense than it being this incredible run by Redden that warranted all these plays designed to go to him

    Bud Carson was fired by the Browns less than a year later. He should have been fired after this game.

  • @Sportstalkchud

    “Always ride the hot hand” is a fallacy. You can’t just implement a dominant strategy approach when defenses can & WILL adjust. Also INSANE to say after just ONE carry. That one run was also due to some great blocking and cuts than any NFL RB could make. Instead worrying about his carry total, maybe the Browns should’ve passed better. Y’know the thing that ACTUALLY helps you score points

    • @Crateron1
      @Crateron1 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Agreed to the hot hand fallacy, especially in this case where it is being presented based on a single play. But regarding the passing game, remember that this was played in 1989. The passing game did not work back then as it does today. The Browns were just not mentally focused on this game.

    • @Sportstalkchud
      @Sportstalkchud 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @Crateron1 It was a different time, but with Bill Walsh having already established the West Coast Offense for a while now, you’d think other coaches would understand the importance of the passing game. Plus, they had Bernie Kosar; a very good QB who finished 1989 w/ a 106 ANY/A+. You should be able to trust him to win the game (even if he didn’t end up playing great on Thanksgiving)

    • @Crateron1
      @Crateron1 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@Sportstalkchud Yeah totally agree! It is surprising how long it took most coaches to realize that planning and scheming based on the passing game was actually viable even after seeing the success the 49ers were having with the West Coast Offense, especially for teams with very good QBs like the Browns during those years.

    Well, I guess this adds one more to another long list of reasons why the Browns and Ravens have beef.
    If you really want to be technical about team histories, this incarnation of the Browns that played against the Lions in 1989 ended up moving to Baltimore and became the Ravens. The Browns of today are actually an expansion team that inherited the history and colors, since the IP (intellectual property) rights are shared with the city of Cleveland. Therefore, as this team began operations in 1999, the Browns are also another team that has never played on Thanksgiving if you follow this version of history. Meanwhile, the Ravens had their first Thanksgiving game in 2011 (the first ever Har-Bowl), and played another game in 2013 against the Steelers (the infamous 'Tomlin on the sideline' game), something I bet must infuriate Browns fans till the present day.
    EDIT: The Ravens won both Thanksgiving games too, so more salt to the wound, I guess.

    So what. Clowns rarely play on thankgiving day. And lions haven't been that great on thanksgiving since leaving the silverdome. And go look at '80-'81 lion t'gvg games for choke jobs. Or the '12 meltdown game vs. titans when schwartz didn't know how to use a challenge flag and hanson missed an easy fg as lions lost in ot. lions in one stretch lost something like 10 out of 11 t'gvg games in 2000's at ford field and some were just ugly. Lions couldn't even beat gb last t'gvg game.
