2 hours of my time to listen to 1 hour of incredibly good information and 1 hour of the rudest, uninformed crowd imaginable. You should revideo this with no crowd.

But it is that crowd inside the store, who likely will buy something before they leave, that B&H cares about. (Not that they don't care about TH-cam watchers, just not as much.)
How on earth did they find that many stupid people in one place? Bob's a patient man.
wow, the questions were driving me crazy, just shut up and listen for crying out loud. stupid questions about what people should already know about their equipment.
Great Info... BUT the guy said HOLD QUESTIONS UNTIL THE END.... The questions, which can not be heard were really disruptive.... THEY never stop.SO who are these people trying to impress???? They seem to not know anything about their own equipment... This was a big waist of my time...
TTL systems from any company are their attempt/offering at a system that will give a calculated exposure based on exposure data collected from both the camera?s meter and the flash. While it is correct according to a manufacturer?s design, it may not be exactly what any photographer prefers. Much like food, one alters a recipe to accommodate their own tastes, so too may digital TTL flashes be adjusted to the photographer?s personal vision of the shot.

Unfortunately no. There are not any wireless non-TTL/Manual slave systems that would allow one to wirelessly adjust a specific strobe. It would have to be done manually on the strobes themselves. - Yossi

As the class was just a small demonstration, not all aspects of lighting could be covered in one sitting. For this reason, using resources such as "Light Science & Magic" is recommended.
I echo the comments of the others. Far too many interruptions and questions. Makes it very difficult to watch on UTube which I am sure B&H want to encourage. Bob Harrington great tips thanks very much. Please stay with your original "questions at the end" in future.
Great presentation if you forward through all the questions the crowd asked. B and H please consider videotaping these seminars without an audience present, or tell them to google their questions when they get home!

Yes, With Nikon's wireless TTL system, you may set the strobes to manual mode and adjust them in vari-power levels. (This holds true also if you are using Pocket Wizards TTL transceiver system for Nikon). I have not been able to confirm the same with regards to Canon's wireless TTL system, but I suspect it can be. When I confirm that I will follow up here. - Yossi

A Polarizer has two functions, 1. Saturating color by the reduction of glare and air haze. and 2. Eliminating glare from reflective surfaces.
So yes, a Polarizer will normally be expected to remove glare from glasses. However, it does depend on the light direction and that will effect how much glare is eliminated.
It's phenomenal how ignorant TTL flash has made photographers (I don't mean Bob).
He should have talked about shutter speed more with ambient and flash exposure, it wasn't looked in to that much.
What part of questions at the end do these people not understand
All the questions spoilt this video for me. It was excellent when he was able to actually present.

Great video but I do have to agree with Joshua Westbrook. FFS, audience, shut up asking questions until the end of the presentation like you were asked to. Bob Harrington has the patience of a saint, he'd start to get into his stride on the subject and then some inane, pointless 'technical' question about aperture or shutter speed he was using. Not many yoga experts there eh? "Relax, and forget everything" Just go with it, don't get hung up on the details of his particular set up!
Hi FallenKain, just wanna share a trick. If you move your light higher then your subject probably 3-4 feets you can eliminate those glare of your subjects glasses.

Hard to watch....all he did was answer questions....the guy was brillant and i wish he had put his foot down in question.....one audience member asked what hole the cord went in on camera.....omg. annoying.

He's a good photographer and I like his 'punchy' NYC style but he really needs to learn how to control his audience. I had to give up after about 45 minutes.

So in order to control the power output from any flash that is used off camera, the flash needs to be of the TTL variety? Not interested in doing TTL off camera but that is the type of flash that would be required in order to control the power output?
And if that is true, then the TTL flash could be set to Manual and still be able to adjust for power output with the trigger?
So here is the the question:
Having a SB-700 currently, I would like to purchase a minimum of 2 additional SB-700's all to use off camera with a TTL trigger. However, if I want to adjust down the power of some of them from the camera/trigger what is the purpose of having them in TTL? Isn't TTL always going to give me correct exposure?
As opposed to using 3 Yongnuo manual flashes and adjusting each of the flashes power manually and using a PocketWizard Plus 3?
why didnt he direct the flash in the off camera flash directly to the ceiling, but rather at an angle? any one to help me?
You can control the flash off camera in commander mode,,multiple flashes as well. I have 3 SB800s and work them all in commander made,,and change the settings via the camera,,, (D90)

I haven't understand something: how he can have no shadows with one flash? If he uses a reflector or ambient light ok but if not?
He's having issues with lens flare and ghosting but his lens hood is turned around backwards on his lens.
What happened to no questions until the end please, great information but drove me nut listening to all the stupid questions.
Love the workshop. Hate the Q&A throughout. People are always eager to ask questions but its disruptive to the workflow.

It kinda doesn't seem like he knows what he's doing. Seemed like he was just taking shots and hoping for the best and making it seem like it was intentional.
You're talking nonsense. He's teaching you to use your eyes, to do it without a light meter. Obviously, he slowed down the process for teaching purposes. I imagine he'd be a lot faster in getting his exposures on an actual job. Everyone who doesn't use a light meter has to do what he does here.
Even after seven years this is a gem of an event. But a totally a'hole crowd.

This was most helpful and inviting as in all @B&H presentations. Simply put, with the ingredients (camera, flash, patient model and lighting stands) - I am ready to set up and create a great photo. The transmitter will help, along with tethering onto PC to easily review your best set-up. What a thought, to take the flash away from the camera.
This was pretty slow moving with all the audience interruptions, but it was very helpful. I really like how he gave so much specific information/techniques and actually demonstrated it live.
I have watched several of his videos and enjoy his work. He seems much more natural and the interaction with the model this time is great (not so with some others). My comment though now is about shoot through vs bounce umbrellas. He likes to use a shoot through, but his umbrella is a convertible which allows both shoot through and bounce. This is handy, but having used that type, I always suggest simply buying a convertible as well as standard shoot through only. If you need two shoot through umbrellas you can make the convertible into a shoot through. But the problem with ONLY having the convertible is that if you want to switch back and forth, you can't do it quickly. Putting the black backing back onto the umbrella can be a pain and time is money. Umbrellas are so inexpensive that it is easy to buy each type specifically for its use, and they take up virtually the same amount of space in your gear bag. If you can fit one in it, you can probably fit 3 with no issues. But the ease and speed of being able to put one or the other onto your setup (without having to mess with it) is well worth having one of each (even if you only want to use ONE light for your shots). Just get both. You will thank yourself the first time you have to bounce back and forth between them to determine which lighting you want for that model.
I see your point but it's not a big deal at all going between modes. There's no pain in taking off and putting the black backing on the umbrella. I always practise those things to the point where I can switch between reflective and shoot through within a minute. Takes a minute either way and it's insanely easy. Obviously, he only walked with the convertible because he tailored the seminar to only need one umbrella at a time. It's a one light seminar. I have several umbrellas - convertibles and other types of all different sizes - and a convertible umbrella is one of the best investments ever.
Thank you for your response. I see you state you have both and of different sizes. I recommend that as well. Umbrellas are pretty inexpensive, and investing in convertibles is a good idea, as well as any others a photographer may find themselves needing. In fact, I never stated otherwise. :)
I read my comment again, and I see where there may have been some confusion. When I said get them both, I was not saying "don't get a convertible umbrella". In fact earlier in the post I stated,

Yes, buy a convertible umbrella. They are indeed one of the best investments in your gear. My point was a bit more than that. And yes, how easy it is to convert and how much time it takes is relative, and each person will feel differently about it. I don't think you would suggest NOT owning more than one type of umbrella though. And they are so inexpensive that.... well....

Thanks for those one light setups. If one mastered them, it would be a great base of knowledge to use daily, improve, and expand upon. My favorite was the Hurrell-style setup using a couch in an apartment. It looked straight out of the 1950's. Very cool and doable.

I gave up at 51 minutes. If you're going to chimp your way through your settings like this then you have no business charging people for photography. Buy a light meter and take a photography class at your community college......... And the audience never stopped interrupting with stupid questions.
