there are many explanations: 1. they simply forgot 2. the mistletoe was young and they thought it was harmles 3. the mistletoe is a parasitic being by nature (it feeds off of other plants to grow), so if it doesn't 'harm' it dies, and that's why the mistletoe hid amongst other trees and they didn't ask it.
Could it have been Odin's Unwillingness to see that the change needed to happen in himself, rather than in everything else. Had he not punished and mistreated Loki's children, perhaps befriended them, they may not have been his undoing? All too often, we become so obsessed with looking forward, that we forget to look inward.
That’s exactly what happened. Much as the governments of our world do… so did Odin. When something threatens? Cast it out. Besech it and make it feel worthless.
Yup, because that's precisely what the Vikings thought. Odin was a bad person because he mistreated Loki's children. Where in Norse lore are Loki's children seen as victims?
You should check out the List of the Many Names of Odin. Probably get a whole hour long video breakdown from that lmao Love this channel. Love your work.

That quiet "I'm so childish..." I have never felt more seen. Even more so than when I thought you said I'm so tired." Do you have any book recommendations that aren't too hard to get through? I'd love to read more about all the mythos.
yooo, I swear the fact that you aded 'not too hard to get through' I feel that. my whole mission is to make this accessible and fun, which many historians don't do. that being said - Stephen fry's mythos is your best bet for greek mythology, and Neil Gaiman's Norse mythology for, obviously, Norse mythology. next year I'll be writing my first book on greek mythology too
@@Briefed_Mythology I just feel that some times classics and older works can feel like they drag a bit. It's not what our modern ear is used to hearing, so it sounds off and can make even the most interesting stories lag. Stephen Fry's have been on my list since I first saw them. And I know I have Gaiman's book somewhere, I just can't remember where it got placed. That is so awesome about your own book! I went to uni for writing and my dream is to one day be published. So, you know, if you ever need an alpha or beta reader I have a love for the subject of mythology and a degree in writing. I love how you are making myths accessible, I agree that not a lot of historians do and I feel like if they tried a bit harder to make it for everyone that more people would enjoy these stories and history in general.
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on Norse mythology in such an entertaining way. Brings me back to my Dungeons & Dragons days as a little kid in the late 70's.
This is a *_much_* better one from the other that I commented on. You kept the unnecessary victim stuff out, and stuck to the actual lore. Voice is still on point, and I'm loving the little jokes you throw in too. *_Great work!_*
Hi, I just want to congratulate you the esthetics and the consistency it all goes so well together the typo the images the image grain balanced with the way you deliver it keeping fingers crossed keep up the grate work !
I came across your channel. Honestly, I'm pretty impressed.I can appreciate and admire the way you tell the lore to the variety of mythos you have collected information on. It's definitely one of my favorites. Especially since you lead with making clarification in both the beginning and end on certain places and things.
This is an outstanding video, thanks for making it. Your energetic and funny demeanor makes it exciting. Stories about the old gods are meant to be exciting, aren't they? Great job, subbed.
Odin is a king and a god. Kings and gods often have to do very morally questionable things in the name of peace and I really wish Marvel would highlight this aspect of Odins character in their take on Norse mythology more.
The only correction i wanna throw in is the mistletoe, it wasnt forgotten (least in the books i have of norse mythology) it was seen too young of a plant "to be seen as a threat" but either than being too nitpicky, loved the video!
Such a big fan of ya, brother! You tell the stories in such a fun way and the silly banter. Coming from a giant nerd of history, theology, and mythos, Norse (have a hammer dangling from my kneck), you do a great job telling the stories of my ancestors and beliefs. Love it!

I’ve always interpreted Niðavellir and Svartalfheim to be the same realm. Difference being that the Dark Elves called it Svartalfheim (since svartalf loosely means dark elf) and the dwarves called it Niðavellir.
@nathanbeer3338 I agree. As one that has sat in rooms and watched scholars, even holy men just drone on about these subjects, I feel most storytellers forget a very important aspect, emotion. Not to say those other people aren't interesting, but after a while, speaking on the same old things year after year, you tend to just push the info out. This channel has great storytelling.
It's interesting that in the God of War games they reframe Loki's children in a way, they aren't his children per say, but he ends up being responsible for them becoming Giants. So they become his kids of sort in a round about way.
thanks, thanks. you can actually get all the artwork on my patreon. there's way more artwork that I don't ever use in the videos too 😊 the link is in the video description
Odin leaving an eye in the well of wisdom is a metaphor for it becoming the eye that sees beyond the veil of the earth realm. Like opening the third eye in Hinduism. Hanging from the tree of life is a metaphor for going through life in search of spiritual knowledge, it’s painful to live this life as a spirit bound by a physical body.
But i have a question y did the tree not swear an oath?
there are many explanations:
1. they simply forgot
2. the mistletoe was young and they thought it was harmles
3. the mistletoe is a parasitic being by nature (it feeds off of other plants to grow), so if it doesn't 'harm' it dies, and that's why the mistletoe hid amongst other trees and they didn't ask it.
And it was VERY rare

@@juanjoyaborja.3054 Hel is not evil, and it was already predicted by a seeress that lokis children would cause chaos, so it wasn't paranoia.
