Is Pep a ‘Fraud’? | Manchester City's Season So Far

  • After a blistering start to the season, in recent weeks Man City have struggled a bit and fallen out the top 4. Who’s to blame for this disappointing run? Was it inevitable that Pep would struggle in a more competitive league or he is a victim of his own success?

      CheGypter True, but this just proves that he really isn't that good. When he was at Barca and Bayern, he had two teams that were the most talented and best in each of their leagues. When he came to Bayern they were UCL champions so just about anyone could've won the league with that team. He came to City and sold a solid GK who had one bad competition, and bought in a keeper who has the worst goals to shots ratio (in terms of conceding) in the league. He went to a good Man City side, not a perfect one, but a good side, and they are now 5th in the table after losing to the likes of Everton and Leicester who Man City should be winning day in and day out. Maybe you're right. Maybe he has just underperformed. But I dont think so. Pep is just not a great manager.

      How does this prove he really isn't good? It's only January, ffs. He isn't the main problem here. No sane person would think he would have it easy, considering the downside in player qualities compared to his previous ones and different football culture. He obviously needs time to adapt to the league, same goes for the players to adapt to his playing style. This City team is overrated by many. Maybe this team is good enough for the football they used to play, but certainly not for the current style. And their problem goes beyond football, imo.

      Matt FC I mean... Alaba can play in midfield... Lahm... Fabinho used to be a RB but isn't he used as a defensive midfielder now? Zaba and the older players should have been sold. It's tough to keep up with the amount of younger talent.

    • @GGMatt
      @GGMatt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      You're calling him a fraud, yet you have no concept of tactics in football so aren't able to even reason why he put Zabaleta in "midfield". It's an inverted fullback position. Much like what Alaba and Lahm played in his systems at Bayern. When you have the ball, you push up and come in tight to overload the midfield, when you don't have the ball the inverted fullback drops back and wide to cover the position left open on the wing, forcing the play through the middle so his midfield can win the ball back easily, maintaining control of the game.. Zabaleta isn't used to that role, but how else is he going to learn it if he doesn't play it? Guardiola has to experiment and learn what his team is capable of in order to get the best out of it, and that's not going to happen if he doesn't take risks.. I swear to god football fans in this country just don't understand football at all. You watch Match of the Day, listen to some illiterate Geordie and a crisp salesman talk for an hour and 20 minutes and think you understand football; when you clearly don't.

    • @charliecjl
      @charliecjl 7 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Ari Gabriel mourinho proved himself in multiple leagues with at times not so great teams, he won a champions league with Porto, basically set a foundation down for Chelsea football club to be what it is now, won a triple with inter Milan, his Real Madrid team and his Chelsea teams has record number of points in their leagues, mourinho can build something from the ground upwards, that's why mourinho isn't a fraud, pep has basically took over 2 ready built teams and made them play different style of play and then won the league with both of them teams, when their was not really many other challengers in the leagues that he has previously managed, he won 2 champions league titles cos he had messi,Xavi,iniesta etc, still early days, but Jose is far from a fraud bro

      Montana Kane Arsenal the only one who can compete with Europe's biggest 3/4? Get outta here. Every PL club is 2 or 3 world class players away from being on par. Madrid, Barca and Bayern soak up all the greatest talent. The PL is different in that regard because it's spread out but Arsenal's squad is no stand out. Ox, Walcott, Iwobi, Coq, Elneny and Giroud are not close to being good enough when you compare the players playing the same roles for Real.

      Talia Mason it's not easy. At any level. But seriously, and I like Pep, but he has everything he wants at city, biggest budget and best training complex in the country, so either he's didn't fully realise how 'poor' his squad is, or he's too stubborn to change his ways. Either way, he has every opportunity which isn't given to 99% of managers in this country to do better and he really has no reason to be complaining about anything besides his own shortcomings

    • @taliamason7986
      @taliamason7986 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jevski7 I think he has definitely underestimated this League a bit which is never good and made some very weird decisions in the Summer transfer news. He will learn from that next season though. I think he will struggle in this League as Mourinho struggled in La Liga granted he did win the title the second season for Real Madrid. Otherwise he needs proper midfielders. If I was the Manager, I would recall Aaron Mooy from loan as he was been outstanding midfielder for Huddlesfield in the Championship.

    • @7exAnimo
      @7exAnimo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. He did so many amazing things in Bayern. He built on Heynckes' legacy and had that huge pressure of having to win the treble in the next three years. A bit too much, don't you think? Despite that he manged to stay 19 points clear of BVB just a year after they played in the CL final and win the Bundesliga title AND the German cup. Bayern were so dominant in those three years that everyone started calling it a one horse race. The only part where he was lacking was defense, but that's more because of not having the defenders he needed for the ideas he had. He gave youth the chance, he created an organized well run team and while his crazy ideas seemed just crazy, most of them worked. Lahm at CDM? Alaba at CB? Kimmich pretty much anywhere on the pitch? Muller shined under Pep, especially last season. Team depth and players versatility Bayern had during his time was something not many clubs in Europe had. Yet, people still give him shit for not winning the biggest European trophy in the hardest European tournament. Pep needs time and so does Ancelotti. The only difference is that English fans tend to run their coaches into the ground after a few bad games so Pep might not get the time he needs.

    Conte has done the 'Gaurdiola 3 year plan' in 6 months and with a team that was in worse shape than city. Pep is tactically weak having played tiki taka with a barca team that has played with that philosophy for at least a decade, and then a bayern side that has two tricky league fixtures against dortmund a season then that's it. Klopp and Conte are the real tacticians and at this moment and should be considered higher than Mourinho and Guardiola

      Pep also spent so poorly in the summer for a club that made top 4 last year, Conte and Klopp bought better without european football. It's very well being a club with money like city but until they balance their team they'll have to continue to rely on aguero to spare all the blushes

    Sir Alex Ferguson got lazy, but still won his last league title with the weakest team he's ever put together. RVP carried us, Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra (and you could even include Rooney) were on the wane, Cleverley and Anderson were part of our first team, and we even had to bring Paul Scholes back out of retirement ffs!
    If he wants to be compared to the greatest he needs to start doing the impossible (Aberdeen). He has never done that, ever. Handed everything on a plate at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and now Man City. Jose Mourinho (Porto, Inter) is the only other top level manager that can be compared to him, and people hate that. Deal with it!

      Pogflop Flopba i feel like pep went to the wrong club in england really, half that city squad are in their very late 20's and early thirties. I feel if he'd have gone to chelsea or arsenal (i may sound biased but hear me out) who have a much younger squad then he would have done a lot better. Chelsea only needed one or two signings and the're probably going to win the league this season. At arsenal we have a relatively good squad and i think we only need 4 or 5 signings to win something. If pep came and bought a new keeper, a left back, a creative midfielder, a striker and a winger then he could have worked wonders

    I think City fans should not lose hope with Claudio Bravo. In the recent past, goalkeepers who moved from La Liga to Premier League have found it difficult to adapt quickly to the fast paced football of this league. Another prime example is David de Gea who was brilliant with his feet but was not a shot stopper in his early days at Red Devils. United persisted and today he is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world. The only problem that Bravo has is that he does not have age on his side. He is already 33 and thus he needs to turn things around quickly if he has any chance of staying the number 1 between the sticks at City.

Some managers are just meant for big clubs. Not to mention half the players in City's starting XI are either too young or past their prime.
    Carlo Ancelotti never managed a small club. He even failed to win the league with Real Madrid three times. Mourinho failed to win the Champions League with Real Madrid and Chelsea. So I guess by that logic they're both frauds too.....

    Pep has always loved young players, they're so enthusiastic and open to being taught and mentored. I compare Pep to Gordon Ramsay, he will absolutely destroy an older stubborn player because they're not open to learn anything new or change the way they play football, because Pep doesn't just give advice to players, he instills a philosophy into them. It's easier to mold and develop young talented players than to change a player that already has their play style. Barca was easy because they were all academy players and already had the philosophy down. Players like Kimmich, Leroy Sane, Sterling, Coman, and Kelechi, all have massive talent, and Pep is at his best when he can mold these young talents to his way of playing football. The main reason Man City are so bad is because they're too old, the youngest players are the best because they have the ability to immediately take what he has to say on board, give Pep another season at City to bring in more youth and they'll be a cohesive unit, that's the only way Pep knows how to play football, when everybody is on the same page of his philosophy. He bought Nolito hoping that his Spanish experience would be similar to the way he plays, Yaya has played under Pep and understands, Aguero, Silva, and De Bruyne are already almost there with their play style, it's the defense and midfield that he has to destroy and rebuild, hopefully he gets the chance to do that and then we'll see if his "philosophical view" of football is a fraud or not.

English Football is different to Spanish football. You also can't expect an easy game from a mid table club, as Pep had to learn the hard way with Everton. There are no Colognes or Essens or Deportivo or bilbaos (sorry I just called your club shit but it's only an example.) in the Premier League whee you are expected to win. It doesn't work like that.

    I think football, especially in England, has been dealt a big blow by all the money.
    Manchester City and Chelsea haven't EARNED to status, they BOUGHT it.
    I don't really like Manchester United, but their rise in the 90's was because they EARNED it by building a good team of youngsters.
    Beckham, Giggs, Butt, Scholes, Gary and Phil Neville... all of them trained by and sharped at Man Utd.
    We're living in an age where a club like Burnley (all respect to them of course) are making more money on broadcasting rights alone than Ajax does in its entire budget.
    And I blame the rich guys who bought and spent like maniacs for it, because that UNNATURALLY increased the marketability of the Premier League by bringing in the best players the clubs otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford.

    From a Manchester United, great analysis by these city fans. Pep is struggling currently, is he a fraud? No. The real question is he will he be able to adapt to the premier league and his style of football suit the premier league, only time will tell..

    As United fans, we are happy with Jose as he has improved the team mentality and we now play exciting football. obviously sixth place isn't the best but this is the first season after a while that United is playing football that is exciting and fun to watch. Mourinho took over a united team that was 'poisoned' by Van Gaal's philosophy whereas Pep took over a city team that was ready for him to win the league.

    he needs to adjust to the players he has he doesn't have players like messi, xavi, iniesta, robben, lahm and he has to learn to defend football is not only attack and attack

    The likes of Jurgen Klopp, Antonio Conte weren't given a prepared squad with their style of players or system but they made it their own and bought players in and adapted what they had to work well their way

    Everyone in this comment section must be new to football this man has won 7 league titles in 9 years. 1 bad season with a poor squad doesn't change that. English fans have to be the worst fans in the world, they are around when your winning but are nowhere to be seen when there team is losing.

    How to know if someone is drunk: Step 1 - They say that if Guardiola win the PL and CL, he will be the greatest manager ever.

    `He didnt get the players that suited his squad` ARE YOU MAD?? he spend 50M on Stones, 45M for Sane, 15M for Nolito, 20M for Bravo, 21 MIL for Gundogan, Gabriel Jesus 30M..... he got around 150-200M in the Summer to spend and he still cant get it right, shouldve kept Nasri instead of Nolito and Kept Hart, Sorry i have to disagree with you there...
