2022 Yamaha Tenere 700 Review | Beyond the Ride

  • Jinno loved the 2022 Yamaha Tenere 700 so much that he bought one and called it his own. After going round and round with his Yamaha XSR900, he decided that the T7 would be the perfect fit for his second bike. Being the adventure bike that it is, it can go far and pretty fast. Powered by Yamaha's tried and true CP2 270-degree parallel-twin engine, it makes quick work of highways, trails, and any type of Philippine road that you throw at it. See what Jinno has to say about his brand-new Yamaha Tenere 700 on this Beyond the Ride review, and find out if it is also the perfect bike for you.

    Very well produced video. Congratulations.
ps. I am 75. Riding for 59 years. In 1966 I stroked a HD Sportster and went 10.6 in qtr. since then I have owned three BMWs and one Tenere 700. I own a GS Adventure in the states-the perfect bike for American roads, both paved and not-, and in Europe (I spend three months each year exploring Europe, Africa, Asia) I keep a Tenere T700-absolutely the perfect bike for my kind of riding in Europe. In Europe I have more aggressive tires than on my BMW in the USA because you encounter unpaved roads MUCH more than here in the USA. If I had to choose which continent to live on based solely on how much fun I have riding the motorcycles, the Tenere wins hands down. Without a moment’s hesitation. I appreciate the BMW. For all the obvious reasons. But being on the Tenere is, every second, thrilling. Everything about it. It isn’t particularly beguiling at 85 mph while the BMW just purs, but I don’t ride the autobahn or strada anyways. It dives into corners. You cannot stall the goddamned thing. You can stall a BMW every time you start from a stop. Stalling on blacktop is not as dangerous as on a dirt mountain switchback with a microbus obstructing the inside while you’re on the outside with 36 inches to dive through and a multi hundred foot steep hill drop off on the outside. I love the Tenere. Like it is a family member. I miss it when I’m not there. When I am there I smile when I see it in the morning, having rolled out of my tent or out of a b&b. My wife was a BMW/Yamaha dealer and sold me my first BMW in 1973 (we married in 2014!). She used to be a badass as well as the most well read human I’ve ever met (who also knows the entire American songbook and can sing songs in foreign languages as well as the theme songs from every TV show). But somewhere along the way she grew up and I didn’t. So, although she sometimes goes with me for a week or two-if I’m going somewhere interesting culturally and not just geologically (mountain passes and valleys and coast roads are all fungible to her)-and then flies home. To do what?-I don’t know. I just know that I am exploring Planet Earth on my Tenere and every day is a thrilling challenge that requires CHOPS. And I still got them.

Hey mate, you hit the nail! People these days buy motorcycles, expensive with all bells and whistles , yes they got the money but for me, this is more kind of social status. The higher price the better , the best tech , but I think different! And I'm sorry guys for my way of thinking, no offense. The same place in the most remote region in the world that a GS goes, I can do the same thing even with a 125cc with an excellent set of tires, up to date suspension and maintenance. A good source of fuel and you are set. The next thing you need is your set of skills, perseverance, and passion. A girl from Europe proved it with a 300 all the way to Alaska and back to North Africa. Like you said my friend, the capability of ABS control only is what you need. The right data in your TFT. THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS! Right on mate 👍😊

From America - Thanks for a thorough, excellent review. Of the most attractive AD motorcycles, I'd put Honda's Africa Twin at number two. I'm 68 inches and you outlined a couple of interesting points with regard to height and bike handling, at least from a short rider's perspective. My major concern is how the tippy-toe balancing at stoplights and stop signs would affect my energy during a long city ride: all the stopping and starting, not to mention some of the heavy protective safety gear I'll have on. As much as I love to ride, it could be exhausting. I'm planning on transitioning from a sports bike to an ADV bike.

Manila traffic is horrible, and it’s still manageable with all the start and stopping. If you are in a State that allows filtering, it shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

@@JRUF40 Thanks, Jinno. I can imagine how challenging it is riding any size bike in crowded Manila, Philippines. I visited a few parts of metro Manila back in the mid-1990s: Makati and Santa Cruz. I'm sure Manila is very different now as there were so many other countries in Asia I was blessed to have visited in the past. I am a fan of Philippines megastar signer Gary V. I like his gospel songs.

I'm the same height and inseam as he is and keep it completely stock. I am however heavier so likely the suspension sits a bit more down in the stroke essentially lowering it some by comparison. I do have a pretty good amount of off road experience which helps with the height but the weight up high is a completely other factor. :)
Don't count yourself out of a T7 just yet if it apoeals to you.

I’m 5’6’, with the low seat it’s plenty manageable around town and on gravel roads with some technique. I think I’ll lower mine just a bit for off road.
The Yamaha low seat is really bad, look at some of the aftermarket options.

I found the side stand on my Husqvarna 701 difficult to get up, with my short legs (I'm 5' 7"). My solution was to cut about an inch and a half off the bottom, and weld a new plate on. I also drilled, and tapped, the side stand about halfway up, and fitted a long M8 bolt with a metal sleeve (held in place with a washer). It put a bit more lean on the stand, and I found it easier to get the side stand up with my short legs. As long as your stand isn't aluminium, which is difficult to weld, you should be able to find someone to do something similar for you.
