I am curious about the calorie content of fish vs gopher. Obviously gophers are larger but are they calorie rich to digest? It seems like fish offer a better meal. What do you think? Great captures!
Thanks Rod. I have wondered that too. It seems to me that fish would be easier to digest. I suspect it would take more calories to digest gophers. I think gophers might provide some of the heavier fats and all of those fat soluble vitamins. I’m not sure if gophers have much fat. Those smelt looked really nutritious. It was my impression that Greta the heron I videoed over a year ago preferred gophers when given a choice and would hunt them first but maybe it hat was more due to the size of the meal.
