      alma6911 5/15/18: I never even heard of the movie ( not a movie goer ) til it came out on DVD and I do not even know WHAT exactly prompted me to buy it; but, I do know this, that when I put that movie in my DVD player and started watching it, I could go no further than the scene with the female architect major telling “Amon Ghett’ and the SS soldiers that the structure of a building was not erected properly and that the whole edifice had to be torn down and restarted and she was shot in the head ( she was looked on, by the guards, as being subordinate ). I IMMEDIATELY tore the DVD from the player and burst into tears and it was AFTER many, many years I finally came across the movie again ( where? ) and saw the whole thing. When I saw the complete movie that time , they had an added segment where several holocaust survivors were interviewed and it showed how Stephen Spielberg used there testimonies to make the film.

      @@ohioThe only liberty taken was some of the dialogue, because that couldn't be known. You are by far exaggerating your point. Schindler's List is for the most part an accurate depiction of events. That is confirmed by people far more educated on the subject than yourself, including actually survivors. Sit down

    • @Adara007
      @Adara007 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@ohio The book was not historical fiction. "Schindler's Ark" is a faithful depiction of historical events. The woman who was an architect was shot in the head by Amon Goeth and yet managed to say, "It will take more than that" after the bullet hit her and before dying. The other liberties were with dialogue as in many cases there has had to be some guesswork. However, in most situations the film depicts there were witnesses who recalled the topics discussed and by whom in very exact detail. The film does have to omit some details which are even more intriguing about Schindler such as his warning Jews about pogroms about to occur in the ghettos, and, critically, his secret alliance with Zionist groups and his travelling going to Budapest and Istanbul to speaking secretly to Jewish councils there to provide them with as much information about the labour and death camps as possible, and having Itzhak Stern - a Talmudic scholar who acted as his personal assistant and accountant - writing out a detailed explanation of exactly what was happening to the Jewish people under Nazi occupation. Schindler had everything to do with the list and if you don't believe myself or those who replied to you below, have a look at interviews with those who were saved by that list and Schindler. They're on TH-cam, in black and white, and you should see these. If you don't also bother to read the book, "Schindler's Ark", you'll have done nothing but perpetuate the same type of ridiculous lies those who deny the Shoah (Holocaust), like David Irving, have done and do.

    I wish there was more out there about the technical aspects of making this film. While there are some gorgeous books (Searching for Schindler, Witness) about the film I wish there was more production footage and cast interviews about the experience of making this remarkable film. Many argue against Schindler's List as a film, sentimental, inaccurate etc but as a vehicle to get people to think about racism and history it still has an impact 23 years later.

    • @adamzanzie
      @adamzanzie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. I've often wondered why none of the DVDs or Blu-Rays contain documentaries about the making of the film itself. I wonder if Spielberg prefers it that way. I imagine he's uncomfortable with the idea of telling too much details about the making of a film that was about such a horrific period in history. I know that the shoot was grueling for him personally. Perhaps he prefers that the film speak for itself. But I agree that I would still love to know more about the making of the film someday. Maybe the timing is wrong right now.

I want them to know a glimpse into how terrible it was for the Jewish people during that war. To learn from it, as they move forward in their lives. This movie is a great example of horror, evil of man, but also courage, strength, and selflessness to do what is right even in terrible times.

      Given how the story is shown, it is more likely that the girl in red coat portrayed in the movie was Gittel Chil.

      It's the list Oskar Schindler made with the names of Jewish people to "work" at his factory, ultimately saving their lives.

      Because it's about how a list of 1100 concentration camp prisoners doomed and heading for Auschwitz that Oskar Schindler spent most of his fortune literally buying their lives from Nazis with bribes to send them to his own personal concentration camp where he could protect them until the end of the war, which he did. It's a good movie, based on a true story.
