This is the reason I tell people that you need a plan B or C to charge your system when there’s no sun and have enough gas, diesel or propane to keep your generator running.
This goes to show how latitude makes a HUGE difference. I had this almost exact same kind of overcast past couple days, and I was able to get 200-300W of power generation from the panels at 10am. That angle of attack of the light coming thru makes a big difference.
Happy holidays, my friend. Can't knock the snow off them like that with the non-reflective coating the Australian panels are meant to have. You use a lot of fuel. I guess that is the cost off grid in Canada. Keep well my friend 😉
Last year 105 days with 20 hours of sun. This year November 7 39.5kw then 1 hour of sun on Dec 18, I gave up and put 6kw of gen charge everyday under 7kw pv 100% 120v with hungry electric heat only. I have a 123g lpg next year getting a 500gal then refill once a year. I would have to get 20kw of solar to not have a gen 11.6kw now. Not sure how it is there but I am 17c warmer than average this winter. I have my panels vertical I had to clean them once due to snow drifts. Wild voltage there, full is 51.6v for me, winter 46 to 48.4V, lead carbon so they don't mind PSOC for 30 days. Good to see someone who has enough fuel and back up to survive these grey days. I did the old fill up gas cans for a month and switched to LPG. happy holidays.
@@GoingOffGrid101 I might sell my back up 5kw gas and get a 13kw lpg make the 9kw the back up then charge at 10kw gen run time 35 mins maybe. I put 2kw of heat on with the gen so I only charge at 80A 4.2kw. I only use 6200w for a smooth 60hrz.
Enjoyed seeing your setup. I'm fully off grid, just south of the BC border. I charge my batteries with a gasoline generator 9KW Champion burning about one gallon (3.8 liters) per hour. Looks like your diesel is a 11kw. I've been wishing or wondering if a diesel generator is more fuel efficient than my gasoline generator. Have you an idea about your fuel consumption? Thanks for the video
Merry Christmas! Just curious, what percentage of power of their rated capacity do the panels generate in weather like this, assuming they're uncovered from snow? I'm sure it's not absolute zero but I suspect something like 1% to 5%?
Yes it has been cruel this year I believe you got more sun than we did lol and we got about 7 feet of snow herein Muskoka. We had a run of no power and I burnt up a bunch of propane which made me wonder how much you burnt being off grid. Take care brother the days are getting longer now. Merry Christmas
Why don't you use a 50gallon/190L barrel to transport to get fuel? You could even set up a switching valve with your tank pump so that you can drop a hose in the barrel and use the pump to refuel the storage tank from the transferring barrel.
@@GoingOffGrid101 They don't have barrel/drums for transporting large quantities of oils up there where you are?? That'd be weird if not. You could use any oil barrel really as that's fine for use in diesels.
Ruff time of the year for us. No sun for going on 3 weeks. December is for burning diesel. It warmed up and rained on the snow. The ground thawed and the roads are a disaster. I am down with the flu so we will not be able to see family this year. That said I am thankful we celebrate The Light of The World on the darkest days of the year. Mic. 5:2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, [Though] you are little among the thousands of Judah, [Yet] out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth [are] from of old, From everlasting.” 3 Therefore He shall give them up, Until the time [that] she who is in labor has given birth; Then the remnant of His brethren Shall return to the children of Israel. 4 And He shall stand and feed [His flock] In the strength of the LORD, In the majesty of the name of the LORD His God; And they shall abide, For now He shall be great To the ends of the earth; 5 And this [One] shall be peace. Isa. 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of [his] government and peace [there shall be] no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Mt 1:23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” John 8:12 ¶ Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Merry Christmas my friend.
not gust bout consistent wind youmay need 48v wind turbine and 12v charge controler for that and a boost charger to charge 24-48v system so wind turbine can charge at lower wind speeds as a trick
yes- this climate change is putting more water /clouds into the atmosfere and killing the ability of the PV system to make electricity!!!! here cental Oregon its the same!
