    Wow ! This is a dream come true. Having just a blow expression control alone was magic, and now having a vibrato, growl and flutter (or any other parameter, but those three were most important for me) controlled with just mouth and head movements is really a dream come true.

    Thanks a lot to make us discover such a Breath Controller. I have an EWI 4000S, perfect for a mono sound but for accordion, bandoneon, for example, with EWI you have to record 2 tracks (one for left hand and the second for the right hand). With this system, I can imagine we have a very good expression and we can play on a keyboard the 2 hands at the same time (as on a piano). You convinced me to buy one.

  • @markstyles5103

    THANK YOU for the very clear and concise explanation. I purchased this a while ago. just couldn't get much useful information from it. It kind of overwhelmed me and I gave up.. Recently I purchased the SWAM bundle (which is amazing). Then I knew I had to learn and make use of the BBC2 controller to get anything of value from the Audio Modeling SWAM instruments.
    I had purchased the SEABOARD RISE. And while it is outstanding it just feels awkward to play (yes you really have to work hard with this for great results). In the end, the BBC2 is very useful, cause you don't need to carry the extra keyboard (RISE).. and both of your hands are free to play, use modwheel, pitchbend. etc.
    Your video gives a very clear overview. The very important thing to understand for new users is that the TeController app that comes with the BBC2, is what gives you preciseness in your articulations.. I realized setting the range (1 - 127) or each controller is vital.. Also, you can assign any of the four CC data streams to the controller most comfortable for you..

  • @MrMarkstyles
    @MrMarkstyles 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Very impressive, AND now I'm gonna have to shell out $$$ for audio modeling.. But the variety and realism are levels above anything else.. No more endless, entering control CC's into the midi file.

    Hi Yannick - I wonder if you can share what sample libraries you use that have patches well suited to the parameters you're playing with. Did you have to spend the time mapping the CC's to those paramaters (such as growl, vibrato, fluttertongue etc.) On the other hand is it easy to choose which CC's the BBC2 spits out (no pun intended!)? Or does it output fixed CC numbers per action? Thanks!

    Thank you Yannick: On the strength of your video, I bought the BBC2 controller.. I'm attempting to use it with Audio Modeling SWAM engine strings. Could you possibly make a video showing you setting up a couple of options to set up for use with the Strings (the 30 MIDI CC Mapping Options, is pretty overwhelming at first. If it wasn't for your video, I would have assumed my BBC2 unit was defective, it seemed to act so wildly and non-controllable. However like life itself, I'm learning subtly is the answer in.

    Great demo. Got my last night. One question. What is this rotating thing next to the mouthpiece that lets the air out? Can I regulate the pressure I blow, but then I loose the volume. Or it should be always close? Thanks!

    • @DangerConGame
      @DangerConGame  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! This is to set up how much breath you want to use in order to send the signal. What you describe sounds like you make it to hard to blow. Hence you'd have to blow much harder to achieve the desired volume.

    Interesting work. I can't help wondering, though, if it wouldn't make more sense to have the tilt controller operated by your free hand. (Or maybe even use a separate joystick!) -- Ian Fritz (building and using wind controllers since 1974.)

    • @DangerConGame
      @DangerConGame  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I prefer the head movement personally.
      After you get used to it, you can't live without it. If you'd need another controller operated by your hand, it would be kind of 'back to square one'.
      I think the developers idea is to let you control as much as possible without using your hands. I prefer it that way too. I like to have both hands free to focus on playing.
      Cheers

    probably a silly question. I just picked up the Trombone 3 instrument from samplemodeling because I wanted a nice sounding horn section. Unfortunately I've never played a brass or wind instrument, but I'm wondering if either the breath controller or the breath and bite 2 (bbc2) might be something I'd get value out of. If so, given my experience, would you suggest the simple breath controller or the bbc2?
    thanks!
    beautiful playing by the way.

    • @DangerConGame
      @DangerConGame  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No silly question at all! I'd get one for sure if you want to create good brass parts. It's a bit hard for me to suggest a BBC or BBC2. I for one wouldn't want to work without the features from the BBC2 (i.e. head movement capturing). It's just more intuitive and natural to be able to control stuff like vibrato and growl etc. with your head than with a knob...
      Thanks!

      Have you had any issue with durability (with the bite function in particular)? I have had several TEC BBC2's bite function give out after weeks of sustained use. I am not sure if I've just been unlucky or if this is a more fundamental design issue. Thanks!

    Hi Yannick,
    What sort of software (ie instruments) are you using here? I'm assuming its modelling rather than sample based? Can you do another video showing how (hopefully) easy it is to assign which articulations to which of the BBC2's data streams?

    • @TheWhisperingCactus
      @TheWhisperingCactus 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Despite not being Yannick himself, I can tell you that the instruments he's using here are from a company called Sample Modeling. The trombone is called The Trombone, and the clarinet is from their woodwind package. From what I understand, they use a combination of samples recorded in an anechoic chamber, and modeling via a proprietary engine. They have a bunch of trumpets, all sorts of trombones, French horns, the double reeds, clarinets, flutes & piccolos, the whole range of saxes...and now solo strings that are just insane. And they all sound convincingly real, to the point of fooling actual music people if you're good at programming them. I swear by them. I've used them for jazz/funk stuff and orchestral, and they work for whatever.
      PS: Ever wondered what a cactus sounds like when its speaking in hushed tones?

  • @DivineMisterAdVentures

    Hi, that´ s great. Does it work with a Hardware Synth like Yamaha Montage for example?

    • @DangerConGame
      @DangerConGame  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Thomas, thank you!
      I couldn't think of a way it would work, unless the device you're referring to has a USB port. In fact it could work if you control your hardware through a computer and hook up the BC to the computer. You then assign the CC expressions accordingly so it controls the hardware as well.
      Sorry for making it sound so complicated but does it help?

    • @tom221263
      @tom221263 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Yannick, thanks fpr your answer. Yes, the brandnew Yamaha Montage has an usb-port. I wonder if you need a special kind of samples that will work together with the controller....

    Does inhaling through it do anything, like how a harmonica works? This makes more sense to me so you don't have to take pauses for breaths constantly.

    • @DangerConGame
      @DangerConGame  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, inhaling doesn't work. Yes, you need to take breaks. That's why I use it only for brass, woodwind etc. where it would require you to do the same anyway

    • @RoboticusMusic
      @RoboticusMusic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Darn, do you know of a breath controller that reads inhales and exhales the same? Perhaps a BBC3 will have this feature plus the ability to assign different cc's to inhale and exhale. Is the head tilt only one axis, no XY?

    • @RoboticusMusic

    Just got one. In 10 minutes there are already teeth marks on the plastic. Any recommendation? I can't find good settings to get good response from the bite without really clamping down.

    • @FearghasG
      @FearghasG 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      For clarification, the maximum setting at linear and it flies off the chart with a small clamp in the middle of the mouthpiece. If I bite at the comfortable part where the teeth meet the lip on the mouthpiece, it can't get there at all and I can't set the bend enough to get there either.

    • @FearghasG
      @FearghasG 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      For now Ive put some electrical tape around the mouth piece which seems to help a touch, at least while I get used to it. This was a very expensive piece of plastic so I don't want to break it.
      Oh also, how do you clean this. The manual says the internals are protected from humidity, but bacteria could still reside in there. Is it safe then to fill it with hydrogen peroxide and let it evaporate?

    Hi Yannick,
    I'm impressed with the BBC 2; I've had mine for one year but when I tilt my head the effect you show on this video does not work for me and I feel so frustrated. Would you please give me any input; perhaps I'm doing something wrong. Greetings from Miami, FL.

    • @DangerConGame
      @DangerConGame  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Franz, probably the cc command from the tilt movement is not assigned to the proper effect you want to control. That's the only thing I can think of.
      Try this: Start the tecontrol program which you use to configure your device, the the movement and what the editor if anything moves.

      @@amalgami Not at all. You cannot sustain some effects long enough with your breath. If you have a 30 second melody and control the vibrato for instance with your breath, you can forget about that. So... I just ordered and got one, and I'm dissapointed. The attached USB cable, which you can't replace, is as flimsy and thin as a thread. It's also too short.
    I think it's not OK at all to ask for more than 300 euro (including tax and shipping) and then send something that is so easy to break. It comes in a silly envelope, inside is a little plastic bag. There's no guarantee declaration, not even a manual, or a card with a link to a manual. It feels like the worst quality I ever laid my hands on, only the price is very luxurious. It's more expensive than the 88 key SL88 keyboard that I use. That has a metal casing, you can drop all the 21 kilo's of it if you want and it will probably still work. But the Tecontrol BBC2: one little snug of your head too many and it will break. One time accidental sitting on the cable will break it, it will fold (and break) easily. I'll be surprised if it lasts for more than a year, provided I could use it.
    But I can't. Because you have a problem if your computer is not directly under your midikeyboard: as the cable is only 1.5 meters.
    As my head is almost 1.5 meters above the floor, I can only use it if I put my computer under my keyboard, but of course my legs are already there. People who'd like to play while standing up will have even a bigger problem. But since my rig is on the other side of my studiodesk, I will have to choose also: use the Tecontrol so I have sound, or use the keyboard and have notes, but not both at the same time.
    I think this is ridiculous.

    It came in a flimsy envelope which I sliced open cutting through the delicate wires. Since it is packed into this terrible envelope who would know the wire was right there? Even if It had been intact it would probably be broken after a few nights of use. Too delicate. Hundreds of dollars wasted.

    • @DangerConGame
      @DangerConGame  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's unfortunate indeed. Have you contacted Tecontrol? They're very customer friendly to my experience.

    • @jerrylanphear7740
      @jerrylanphear7740 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and Tom was very gracious. But, I ripped it apart further in may attempt to put the wires together. It's my own fault, I should have cut just the corner or something, but I was excited to get it in the mail and wanted to spend my long weekend playing with it. I still suggest that the device has a few things that could be improved. I don't buy microphones, keyboards and rack devices that have hard-wired cables. Such cables are the first things to get ruined when musicians set up and tear down their equipment. So I mentioned that it would greatly improve the device to have a midi port on the box instead of a hard wired USB cable.

    • @DangerConGame
      @DangerConGame  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to hear you've had pleasant experiences with them as well. They're an amazing bunch and trying hard to make the best product available. I was really surprised after getting the first BBC, the second one was released already shortly thereafter and even with a proper mouthpiece that wouldn't wear off as fast as the first gen one, so they really make great improvements and fast at that.
      That being said, of course the frustration is understandable. This fortunately never happened to me but I see it could have.
      Hope you'll still get some good experiences with the BBC, cause it's hell of a device.

    • @DrDaab
      @DrDaab 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You a re mixing up two things. If you want a detachable cable, then you should ask for a USB port, so you can easily plug in a new USB cable if it breaks.
      A MIDI port is a very different animal, and of limited use for TEC BC2 which needs to communicate with the computer beyond the limits of MIDI for programming purposes.
      The idea of being able to replace the cabling is a good one.

    How can a manufacturer and reviewer, who both apparently are not woodwind players talk about what is: more natural, cool or good? The reviewer here goes on as though he is acquainted with reeds or woodwinds when this video, demonstrates he knows little.

    • @DangerConGame
      @DangerConGame  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never stated anywhere that I'm familiar with woodwind instruments. Although fyi, I used to play the recorder and baritone horn. But that's not even important. The perks mentioned in the video are related to a comparison with other libraries and means of playing, which don't allow you to be as expressive (less and static cc commands) as opposed to this.
      Thanks for your feedback.
