it’s so fun reading everyone’s memories of this song in the comments. The first time I heard this I was a freshmen in college and now in my 30s. This sure brings back some great times
Bro. The first time I listened to this song, I was 12 or 13 riding the bus to school and had randomly found it in a mound of single songs I downloaded from Kazaa and dumped onto my ipod. I am now 30 years old. PERSPECTIVE.
Ryan Maldonado I listened to them quite a bit in high school. I don’t listen to much of their old stuff anymore, but I still listen to this song to this day. It’s really always been one of my favourites.
I remember when this came out and how much this song helped me. I had friends who'd laugh at this song because they were like "He's sad about his goldfish?" The deeper meaning behind it, is his descent into depression, feeling nihilistic, seeing something so much as his goldfish may have helped him deal with that, gave him a bit of meaning to see it flourish even in a small tank, and that's what they didn't understand. I knew it. Forever my second favorite band of all time.
First heard this song back in my favorite years of high school.. over a decade ago now here in 2018 my fiance and I are getting our fist house and were going over baby names.. Penelope came up and I think it's a keeper.
@@nadyaabramov3368 Brief existence for sure; sad? Maybe. I forgot I left that comment. Ps. My sister stole the name Penelope from me and named her daughter that (she was born 2 weeks after my baby whom I named Elena).

i'm getting para mi corazon tattooed on my wrist because of this song. well...the pinback version actually. though i DO love this cover! both are great. :)
Everyone needs to get over it. Pinback is AMAZING, yes. They are one of my favorite bands.. but obviously they have inspired another great band so much that they covered their song. And they are both great versions. This is there artistic interpretation. Don't need to hate on it or fight over whose better. They are both different and both beautiful.
definitely not pinback's best song though. imo rob crow is the 2nd best songwriter alive next to paul mccartney..but im a songwriter with 3 albums and an ep out on itunes, google play, spotify, etc. myself and pinback was a large influence so I am pretty partial to them..
Found out my family and I will be having a little Girl. Her name will be Jolee Penelope Krieger. Life is amazing, one minute you’re in middle school the next your kids are.
@ManionStench once anthony green said the original name was it's say ocean then they changed it in say oh shin which means in chinese language death and then they chenged it after anthony in say oh sin
2024 here. Still great and brings back memories
I absolutely love Pinback's version, so groovy. But this one hits you in a totally different way which i also find beautiful
the fact that they covered a pinback song in general makes me respect them more.
And the fact that the song is about a dead goldfish makes this version fucking hilarious

All these views are probably from me tbh. I desperately wish this was on Spotify. My favourite song since the ninth grade. I’m old now.
I'm a huge Saosin fan (especially the Cove era, sue me), but somehow this song passed me by somehow. I love it! Wish I had heard it sooner.

@@brookekass5101 it’s so messed up how this song isn’t on Spotify, I wonder why cuz other covers are on there but why not this one?
@@Mr_Death031 so messed up. I wish I could contact them somehow and get it on there lol. This has been my favourite song for soooo many years.
Old Saosin slaps still, just like this cover can never die. This sounds like the summer before my Junior year, like 07ish lol
Song is still relevant in 2019.
Haha I just saw you on the Pinback version too
This song will ALWAYS be relevant lol.
It's a song about a fish
And onward!
@@blahquinnyblah I had a fish back in the day and I named it Penelope because of this song lol

Penelope really is a nice name but I'd hate to think of these lyrics while thinking about a daughter tbh..
I think this song and the name is a beautiful reminder of the temporary nature of our brief and sad existence
@@nadyaabramov3368 Brief existence for sure; sad? Maybe. I forgot I left that comment. Ps. My sister stole the name Penelope from me and named her daughter that (she was born 2 weeks after my baby whom I named Elena).
This is what we named our daughter back in 2012. My wife still jokes that she is going to tell her that I named her after a fish. Lol
Still listening in 2016. Never gets even the least bit old.

2021 here and I will never stop listening to this song 🙏🙏
It's sad to know that most people don't even know that PINBACK is the original makers of this song and many other amazing songs.
Nostalgic, the only song i can play when we were young hanging out at 3am, still listening 2023
Nah thats Cove man. AG's voice is unmistakable.
I forgot all about this cover. I can recall those feelings from another time ☺️
Song still hits in 2021. Named my dog after this song in 2006 by this band. It was my favorite. She’s still alive today.
this is a cover
I named our puppy Penelope after this song as well when they did it. She passed last year and this song still hits hard for her ❤

Thanks for uploaded this video! :3
I love this. still here listening to you...
I think it's funny that this song is about a goldfish.
Is it?
Yes the song is most likely about a goldfish. Check out the lyrics. "Red scales", "eliminates the need for the faucet" etc
It's my favorite part

Thank you.. Mr. Jones.
This song was my adolescence.
i appreciate the thought of covering this song...
This is pretty good, I like it. Too many bands when doing covers simply mimic the original song as much as possible, which gets boring. Nice job here.
It's originally by a band called Pinback. The original song is very good, too.
definitely not pinback's best song though. imo rob crow is the 2nd best songwriter alive next to paul mccartney..but im a songwriter with 3 albums and an ep out on itunes, google play, spotify, etc. myself and pinback was a large influence so I am pretty partial to them..
anyone listening during quarantine?
its late-2019 and im bumpin a song about a dead goldfish
Was watching Downton Abbey, and there was a patient with Dropsy. Immediately thought of this cover. Still delicious in 2021.
How is this cover controversial? Both good. The Pinback version is for indie kids and the Saosin version is for emo kids. Simple as that.
"How is this cover controversial" Maybe because it's absolute dogsh*t? They did not do a good job, in spite of Anthony's impressive vocal range.
