OP-Z Sequencing iPad Synths - Song Buildup Jam Workflow

  • The OP-Z has a really great sequencer. There are many great iPad synths... Connect the two, and you have a hardware sequencer for your iPad synths. And use the OP-Z synths and samples where it makes sense. Enjoy this song buildup jam. Peace.

    This really shows how the OP-Z is practically more a platform than an instrument.
    Going around the internal synths changes the sound completely but keeps all the sweet tricks up the OP-Zs sleeves.
    Well done as always.

    Thanks for another great video. This is exactly what I was wondering if I could do with the OPZ. Specifically sending midi to the iPad to control AUs and Gadget together along with onboard sounds too. Fantastic job demoing it. You have an amazing ability to show a huge range of options/features on instruments so efficiently. So focused in how you experiment. Hey, Teenage Engineering, Cukoo just sold another one of these for you.

    Huh. I spent so much time to figure out how to do the same, but with the Arturia Keystep and I found the way. First, you should connect your OP-Z with iPad through Bluetooth and chose you OP-Z in AUM or any other apps as OP-Z Bluetooth MIDI and chose your channel. Second, you need to buy USB to USB Type-С connector and connect your Keystep to your OP-Z and chose MIDI Mode and the backside of Keystep. And third, you should to chose the same MIDI Channel on Arturia Keystep, using Shift and keys. And voila! You can use the Model 15 on iPad, playing on the Keystep and recording all of it in OP-Z. Maybe it will help someone.

      There are some MIDI settings you can tweak according to your needs through the opz app or the setup config txt file. The default is MIDI channel 1-16 from left to right, starting with kick drum. Many music apps can set the incoming MIDI channel so that you won’t have to change MIDI settings on the OP-Z.

    I have a beginner question! So once you'd laid out a nice pattern using opz drums and iPad synths, what do I do to 'save' it? Meaning next time I open up my synths they will not be on the same preset necessarily. Would I need to record to audio in order to lock in that specific pattern?

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will need to remember the workflow and the presets etc. I don’t think there’s an app that reaches into every other app and change them back. So the more you solve in one app, the easier it will be to recall that app’s state.

    what's really unfortunate for me is that I am an android power user, completely out of the apple ecosystem. android is fundamentally years behind apple when it comes to music production. we can't use different apps for different synth engines or route them into a DAW. everything has to be contained in a single app. Storage is also an issue, we can't store samples externally for most apps, they have to be contained within the apps data, so if an app can't be moved to SD (cubasis...) you're SOL. I can use a midi controller but if I want a different synth engine than what is available in cubasis, sucks. I don't think we have channel routing function either

  • @2mbst1
    @2mbst1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I did not know that you can run so many synth simultaneously on the ipad! Amazin!g
    Also: is it possible to write a sequence with one of the synths on the opz and change that track(?) to midi afterwards. So you can write a sequence on the go and in the studio hook your synths up?

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, certainly. The way it works is that on the OP-Z you can mute the internal sound per track, and the MIDI output per track individually. So you can have one track sequence internal sounds, and MIDI notes simultaneously if you wish, or just mute one or the other... per track. So yeah, start out on the go with internal sounds, and then use MIDI devices when you get to the studio for instance.

  • @TylerHallHiveTech
    @TylerHallHiveTech 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can you show the stuff out of the screen? How are you mixing audio? How does the iPad hook up to the opz? Is it just over usb? Is the headphone jacks plugged into each other? Total noob. Just blew past me when nothing was setup then everything was setup. How did you record the whole sessions audio?

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The audio is connected to a field recorder called the Zoom H6. It’s got 4 inputs (2 stereo pairs) and a stereo mic. So all of the audio is recorded this way, straight to the field recorder’s SD card. The OP-Z has usb-c, that goes into a USB adapter for the iPad. But I could’ve used wireless Bluetooth MIDI for this. I just didn’t think about it at the time. It would’ve looked even cooler, hehe.

    sick track really interested in the process you have here, always used ableton but this being portable seems so attractive, could you make show us a video on your process?

    Hi, sweet! How are you able to run several synths at the same time? For me when I launch for instance model 15 and then try to open next app so the model 15 goes silent.

      Every synth has an option to run in the background. Look in the settings and you’ll find it.

    Excellent video! Is there any way to accomplish this with the iPhone X or similar? I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get midi in without sending audio back out over usb

    amazing demonstration...can you sequence parameter automation of the ipad's synths in the op-zed's sequencer?

    Hej! Du borde testa deluge som har liknande sequencing features some op-z, tror du kommer digga den. Bra video ska testa op-z ihop med ipad när op-z kommer med posten imorgon.

      Hej! Ja jag ska lära mig Deluge i mellandagarna tänkte jag :) Den är mäktig. OP-Z är skön alltså. Den funkar så himla bra. Sequencern är väldigt snabbjobbad och bra.

    Couldnt you just do this with a midi controller and an ipad sequencer?

    Is the audio being recording from the OP-Z (drums) and from the iPad (synths) or is it all coming out of the OP-Z?

    these videos are the best!! curious how you mute the internal audio on specific tracks out of the OP-Z? can you point me towards something in regards to how to do this?

      Thanks! Yeah press the back mixer button, and shift to mute audio only. The track will turn red.
