I’m 66 and newly retired and have never had time to learn how to draw. I found your channel yesterday, and it is fantastic! Just what I need, so thank you! I am so excited to watch these brilliant tutorials and begin to learn ❤
I'll be 75 in a couple of weeks and have been an artist for almost all my life, and I'm more than happy to say I find Michele absolutely fascinating! Not only does she have extensive artistic knowledge, but importantly the ability to impart it to other people in an understandable way. Beginner or advanced, this is without doubt the lady to watch!
I watched this and a few other of your other drawing vids last night and today I tried to draw my house. I was struggling mightily until I realized i was drawing the tops of elements i couldn't actually see the tops of. I didn't even realize that was what I was doing until you popped into my head! I corrected the angles and it was like a miracle! There was my house! Recognizable, right there on the page! From my own hand! So, thank you so much!!!
A professional artist once told me if the drawing isn't right then you will end up with a bad painting. These simple lessons on your video are worth practising thankyou Michele.
With the whitish grey tones. A artist once explained it, as the icicles in Antarctica also have some sort of shade. There is contrast in the whitest of objects.
So logical and ovbious once you point it out, and with a degree of humour (humor??), too! The one that helped me out the best was the trick for getting proportions right on a vase or bottle, or similar. Sooo useful. I will always do this, in future. Thank you, Michele (Karen??) 😂😂
Thanks Michelle i found this video very interesting especially how to join a road or lane correctly to the horison line as mine always touched the sun. Loved this video xx
I have learned something from you from each video I have watched of yours. Thank you for realistic explanations with brief examples to see the point! Your bird tutorial helped me simplify my technique for feathers
The path going up into the sky and not meeting the horizon in a fluent way is a mistake I make. As they say ' You don't even know what you don't know!' Thanks again Michele.
TH-cam doesn't allow image insertion in comments anymore, people were using it for, er, unseemly purposes shall we say! Feel free to share your work over in my Facebook group :-)
The first example with getting a vase symmetrical used to plague me to frustration! I eventually used tracing paper folded in half, but your method of measuring is much easier and quicker. Thank you!
So good. Thanks. I wouldn’t even have noticed the flower mistakes. I would have known about the eyes in the middle but only thanks to one of your previous videos
Brilliant as always. I loved the tip of alignment using a piece of card. I can think of many uses for this. The other tip I found very helpful was to continue your drawing beyond its end point to help with perspective. I draw on anything and of anything these days in order to improve. You should see my latest gas bill I had been looking at in bed. Full of little drawings of what I see around me 😂
Hello from Canada… Thank you for sharing your awesome tid bits… The teachings are so useful and your practice offers common sense. You definitely found your calling.
You never disappoint! I always learn so much from your videos! You're experienced and knowledge Is vast! I enjoy all your personal comments and your sense of humor! If I comment on every video, you would never get any thing done! I cannot thank you enough for the difference your teaching has made and my Painting! Thank you for all of your work ! I hope you had a wonderful break And feel Refreshed and ready to get out of it again!
Everything is very helpful and I can put into practice. I did want to agree with using a piece of paper to measure and mark. I found it extremely helpful to be able to put the mark on a piece of paper to use over and over while I was drawing a face. Excellent information here. Thank you.
Thank you Michelle, this was so informative, I can see where I've been going wrong with paths and tonal value. I always learn such a lot from you. Love the nails too 😊
I love your videos Michele. But this one, along with your last one, should be super helpful for everyone that’s not had art classes. Great tips. Thx as always. 🥰💕🐶💕😷🥰
I love your videos Michele. They are so helpful to my everyday practice. I thought you may want to know that there is kind of an echo-y sound effect on this video. I haven't noticed it before.
I’ve been completely absent from drawing and painting since my last set of classes February 2020. Now I’ve settled into our new locale and daily think about getting going again. This is the first among many of your tutorials I’ll use for inspiration and instruction. ❤️
What an interesting video Michele, yes I've made these mistakes more than once too. You've made it clear to me that if you're correct from the start by planning and preparation, enjoyed this video as always which was explained calmly how to create detailed picture. Thanks appreciating stay safe and healthy
Thank you for these very helpful tips. As a person who had always turned to the computer to create, I’m now teaching myself to draw and paint. I find your instruction style, as well as your content, well thought out, clearly explained and beautifully demonstrated. Please continue to provide videos for everyone.
Michele, thank you! Im a new subscriber, i love your simple yet useful tutorials with no background music, big 👍 Up. Do you have any tips on how to do shading ? I try and try but it never comes out right.. 🥵
I don't like music in videos that are not about music so I don't inflict it on others! Shading, long lead, light hand and blend. I may do a video about it.
@@MattBookbinder yes I do. I stopped because of Covid but I have two workshops coming up in August and September. They aren't on the website yet but will be soon. The best way to find out about them is to join my Facebook group or add yourself onto my mailing list. There's a form on my website or download any of the free PDFs I offer.
Usually I make the space between letters about 1/6 or 1/7th of the height of a full letter/capital and the space between words more like half a capital letter’s height. Obviously you can vary this depending on the style used just like you can vary the width of the letters. Making the M and W wider is usually fairly universal though.
Thank you for this great video, Michele! I would definitely consider taking your drawing course so am really looking forward to that announcement. I must go draw something now… ❤️
how little white there actually was in the landscape. problem I see is when I draw, I use pen and hatch/ cross-hatch. It all becomes a mess if I don't leave islands/ borders of white. If I do though, it looks like the landscape with dark marks. Suggestion? Also hatching clouds is way to hard.
Michele, in one of your videos you mentioned a decent eraser to use. It was the Derwent...something or other. A putty rubber. I cannot find the place where you mentioned it and I want to order one. Please..... can you tell me the name and type and I can use this to get one. Thank you. I live in Spain and supplies are limited. Many thanks.
I found the petals tip helpful, thanks Michele. I wonder if we learn to start drawing the eyes too high as children, because when we're little we we're always looking upwards at people?
So much to learn! Valuable info for this 68 year old beginner. Love your sense of humour, but don’t know about forgiving for the American spelling….🤨 Canadian here. 😁
No!!! Canada is a commonwealth country! The Queen was our Queen! (Not a fan of Charles, quite frankly). Four, fourty, etc. we have 10 provinces and 2 territories. Only one province is French.
I get confused with the top and bottom of a cylinder or vase or whatever. Should the ellipse be the same both top and bottom, or is one flatter than the other?
Both are the same angle - for example if you are drawing a cylindrical vase the base circle and top circle are both the same angle (flat to the surface the vase is on) but they don't have to be the same size. So if you want a vase with a slimmer base circle that's fine, just make sure that the centre of the base circle and centre of the top circle are aligned. Also don't forget to think about the weight of the object and balance too if you are aiming for any kind of realism. The base can be smaller than the top but if it is too small the vase would fall over.
It depends on the viewpoint. Viewed from above, for example looking down at a table the base ellipse would be deeper. The closer it gets to you eyeline the flatter it becomes. The width of the ellipse is more about the design

Beginner or advanced, this is without doubt the lady to watch!
The curved line at the edge of the cup and curving the road into the horizon were very helpful but really all the tips were great.
I am still watching your back catalog of videos. They are so helpful to me! Thank you Michele. 🥰🎨🧑🎨
Glad you like them!
I watched this and a few other of your other drawing vids last night and today I tried to draw my house. Brilliant!
A professional artist once told me if the drawing isn't right then you will end up with a bad painting. These simple lessons on your video are worth practising thankyou Michele.
I appreciate how the lettering or design looks on an object like a cup or vase. It really does add dimension to follow the curve. Thank you.
Glad you like it!
Thanks for showing me how to correct my mistakes. Guilty of many!
I have learned so much from you in the past few months.
I am excited about you teaching drawing because you ar3 a great teacher. Thank you for this video.

Pen is a little different because you can't grade the dark so you need more lights.
Very helpful, thank you.
Glad it was helpful, Wendy.
Nice tutorial as a leaner my self your interesting video help a lot 🙏💐💐🙏
Glad you liked it!

Good teaching method ۔
My question is that how to represent thickness of the tea cup or similar objects !!
Thanks 🌹😆
It's all about accurate drawing and shading :)
Very useful!
Thanks, Jocelyne!

I wonder if we learn to start drawing the eyes too high as children, because when we're little we we're always looking upwards at people?
