I am so thrilled to find this video. I am using the new Siser EasyColor DTV and it needs transfer tape. I hope the painters tape can handle the temperature 320 deg F. The suggested transfer sheets are very expensive, almost doubling the cost of the DTV.
Thanks for your experimentation... good to know there are inexpensive alternatives out there... one tip I would suggest is to peel the transfer tape at a 45 degree angle, going slow, both when you picking up the vinyl cut and as you're transferring it off to your final surface... I've used professional vinyl cutting machines and this seemed to do the trick with all kinds of transfer tapes
Follow up. Couldn't find painters tape so I used this washi tape that I dont care for. It worked perfect. Thank you for the puah in the right direction
Even though this video is 2012 & it is now 2019, it SOLVED my problem for a transfer method without having to go to the store for any product! Yay for another use for painters tape! Thank you SO MUCH!
Note: I also tried masking tape which to me worked almost as well as painter's tape. Worth the minimal difference of stickiness because it's a bit easier to see through than the blue painter's tape.
Just a quick tip that someone shared with me a few years ago regarding vinyl... I have called or gone to different Sign Shops in my area asking if I could have any scrap pieces that they may be throwing away. You'd be surprised as to how much Vinyl I have received this way. Many Vendors are more than happy to give them to us versus just throwing their scraps away. I've received many, many Big pieces also, and it is the High Quality Vinyl...
I just watched your video on the tape alternatives and the painters tape won hands down. And you can us it over and over. I just put the used pieces on my plastic cutting board. What a money saver
Thanks this was great, I am new at Cricut and didn't know I needed transfer tape. I really wanted to do my first vinyl and now I can thanks to your TH-cam video thanks.
Thank you for sharing this.i recently had great success with cheapo brand of green painter's tape at Big Lots. It might be terrible for actual painting, but it works great as a transfer alternative. It was $5 for a 1.88 inch wide roll. Thanks for the inspiration!
This experiment was eye opening!!!! I haven't cut any vinyl yet but I would like to now. I love saving money especially when it comes to crafting!!!! Thanks for sharing this experiment!!!!
Thank you! I really did not know anything about transfer paper or tape. Been trying all this by hand and it was driving me crazy. Your video was perfect and the painters tape idea is WONDERFUL!
I loved your experiment! Saved me trying a couple of those items! I had already tried painter's tape...and really like it. However, I wanted to see if maybe clear shipping tape might work...and it did. It wasn't the easiest to work with, because it's so thin and "flyaway", wanting to crunch up. So, as long as you stay ahead of that to prevent folds & wrinkles, it's a cost efficient, nice option for smaller items or images.
I have just started trying vinyl and had bought some from a scrapbook convention and didn't really know where some good places were to buy it from, thanks for the info
I used my husbands 3M automotive refinish masking tape. Its yellow and from Advanced or Auto Zone and it worked perfectly! I layered it since it's only an inch wide and it still pulled off easily!
when your dryer buzzed, I thought i was mine. lol. Tip: if you will hold the press n seal with it standing on end and rip the paper downward, it will rip quick and easy. thx Dee
Thanks, We did not know about the transfer tape and found your video. We used Glad "Press and Seal" and it worked great! We have the Cricut Maker. Our first machine. Thanks! Kevin and Belinda
Awesome! THANKYOU for doing this! I completely forgot that I needed transfere tape and the craft store is litterally an hour from me! This is awesome because I've got BOTH press and seal AND painters tape on hand! Perfect! Since painters tape works I bet that white tape that's similar to painters tape, just white, would work great too! I'll try that too!
So just bought vinyl for the first tike. Was watching how to use it and saw that I was missing transfer tape. Almost cried until I came across your experiment. Going to try the painters tape idea if not might try packing tape as someone here suggested. Wish me luck. Lol
You can also use pieces from a lint roller in a pintch. I actully use that for all my smaller projects. The only downfall is its not see thru but you can see enough to be able to line it up.
I use contact paper shelf liner all the time and it works good for me although I do agree that you to press a little harder. Love the painters tape seem to work good.
I was told you peel the paper off the back instead of peeling off the contact paper from the front. I have had no problem with the Wal-Mart clear contact paper doing it this way.
Thankyou for this video. It was exactly what I was looking for. Can you help me with another problem please? I've only just bought my silhouette cameo and I'm having trouble cutting vinyl. I'm following the instructions but the cutter is dragging the vinyl and not cutting it properly. Also it is sticking to the mat. [the instructions with the vinyl said to use the carrier mat]. Any suggestions please?
Does anyone know if this will work or if there are alternatives to transfer tape for making tee shirts, sorry if this is is dumb question, but I am new to this. Thanks.
12 min too long. Press & seal worked but you have to be aggressive with rubbing, contact paper didn't work, painter's tape worked well but it's thin strips and you can't see through it.
Don't do that "looking-up" thing with your eyes. You look scary. Anyway, You demonstration is excellent! I've tried it with the yellow "Masking Tape" and it is as excellent as the Transfer tape!! Thank you for this helpful demonstration. I have also subscribed to your channel.
Experiment starts at 8:15

THANK YOU! I love you! I have watched ENDLESS videos on transfering vinyl to plastic and no one tells what type of transfer tape they used!
I use clear packing tape. I rub it on the couch 1st then I put it over my vinyl.
Why on the couch first
@@ashleighvitt5555 To make it less sticky. It pick ups some lint so it creates spots where the glue is suppressed.

Hi Sara...You are my savior....before it I don't know where to buy a contact paper in Thailand. Thank you very much.

I use contact paper shelf liner all the time and it works good for me although I do agree that you to press a little harder. Love the painters tape seem to work good.
love your scrapbox!!!!!!!!
Thanks- I am glad you liked it!
Great tutorial!
I've been told with the contact paper you need to rub the back of the vinyl backing paper too, not just the front
Thanks for the tip- I'll have to try that!
OMG... You are so smart and so fine. I love both things about this video. Have a great week and future!
I've purchased it from several places online- including Oh My Crafts, Expressions Vinyl and craftvinyl
Where did you get those shelves/closets in the background?! Amazing!
The unit looks like it's from The Original Scrapbox. I have a newer version and LOVE IT!
Thanks for the video! SOOO much cheaper!
Thanks for the tip- I'll have to try that :)
Darn it! I just bought 3 rolls of contact paper today because someone on Facebook said it worked. Glad to know the tape and the glad wrap worked!! Tfs
It is really usefull for me!!
I was told you peel the paper off the back instead of peeling off the contact paper from the front. I have had no problem with the Wal-Mart clear contact paper doing it this way.
Thank you--it was a fun little experiment! :)

I tape my vinyl to mat with painters tape it doesn't move and no need for a sticky mat
Cheers x
lol- Good tip about the press and seal!! Thanks!!
A magic eraser will clean that ink off your mat :) That's so cool you don't need a mat!! This was a great tutorial! Thanks for the info♥
It helps if you turn your design over and peel it from back.

THIS IS AWESOME INFO! THANKS!!!
It bugs me that my mat is dirty, too. :) Cute project!
How do you print decals without white backround?
Try flipping it over and scraping the back of the paper on the the contact
Did the tackier contact paper work?
Does anyone know if this will work or if there are alternatives to transfer tape for making tee shirts, sorry if this is is dumb question, but I am new to this. Thanks.
You need heat transfer vinyl for shirts. You can press with iron or heat press.
@@camacholety thanks
so jealous of your craft box...

JaaMizzou22 VIP Right here
Where do you buy your vinyl from???
What about clear laminate??
Try a little rubbing alcohol and an old towel on that stain on your mat.
cooool! tfs
i trust you..
Try duck brand clear not contact.
How would this work on a shirt
I know this is 9 months old. But this is a different type of vinyl. You use HTV for shirts and fabrics! 💚 hope that helps someone
Maximum verbosity.
It's a girl thing. :-)
I don't care for the press and seal because it stretches to much.
In the uk all these parts are so expensive.... gets me angry when they don't think of prices in the other countries.

genial c nimporte quoi!
No thanks, I'll spend the extra not to have to take forever working on it. This would work in a pinch, but definitely not a replacement.
Where do you order your vinyl from?
