  • The Death Domain cleric subclass from the Dungeon Master's Guide focuses on outputting tons of necrotic damage rather than healing and buffing your allies every turn. In this video, we'll take you through a 1st to 20th-level Death Domain cleric build, covering race, spells, feats, class features, and playstyle.

You correctly listed the rule regarding a character not breathing and being in an inhaled poison. Subbed. Good start so far. Looking to see what else you get into.
I would have gone for Sapping Sting. I prefer the chance of crowd control. But chill touch is my second choice, let's be honest Cleric cantrips aren't known for their potency.

Hey I'm going to be playing in a campaign that is excluding setting specific lineages. What would be a decent lineage other than Reborn for a death domain cleric?

From the Player's Handbook, I'd choose a Hill Dwarf, which is a classic cleric starting block.
If they're available, you could also look into a Shadar-Kai, which is an elf from the Shadowfell, or an Aasimar, which is more of a divine being's offspring. Both flavorful and work well as Death Clerics.

It's a subclass in the Dungeon Master's Guide, so you'll need that book on D&D Beyond to play it.

I feel like CD:ToD wouldn't proc the heal from vampiric touch since it's technically a separate effect, but I suppose that depends on how lenient the DM is feeling.
Edit: also, you can overcome the issue with animate dead by playing an elf (or in this case elf-reborn), since you can long rest in 4 hours, re-dominate all your undead for 24 hours, then 4 hour long rest again and wake up just a few minutes after the rest of the party
