- Google cancels, kills, and transitions a lot of products. Google has killed apps like Allo and Inbox as well as hardware like Nexus phones and Chromecast Audio. Even services like Google and Hangouts are being shut down. Google experiments on a lot of projects but they don't always follow through. Google's, "see what sticks" approach can leave users skeptical about the longevity of new Google services.

If you drop a suggestion in the suggestion box at any business expect them to capitalize on your idea! Republic of China is Communist! China was not going to give Google it's peoples browsing data to Google to profit from because Communist China was going to profit from it's peoples data!
The kicker is; China then stole all the data/ideas they got from Google or copied it. Google got many other countries to sign on board with there contract and just like you click accept without reading, your privacy, thoughts, questions and ideas all become Googles!
Our politicians ask dumb questions and sometimes real good ones, meanwhile big tech owns you until real people get rid of the bad ones who are on the take! 11/2/2021. They just all word it differently in their favor of course.

I sincerely doubt they will. Because it's free and unlimited with nifty AI features, so many people use it and when you think about it, that means they're invested into the Google system. Google has tonnes of data to use to get it's sticky fingers into the lives of everyone. I think Google photos is a mainstay as it gets people to give heaps of data. Google's #1 tool.
More than likely, they won't shut it down.

I'm still pissed about Inbox. Best email client by far and they've yet to migrate all the features and UI to their inferior Gmail.

Worst part was when they said bundles would come to Gmail but they never did. My emails have been such a mess since I was forced to use gmail

Former moderator of Google+, alot of mismanagement with the site led to its demise, behind the scenes there was so much drama it was ridiculous, spam bots using targeted software, awful UI changes, mods went agianst during beta testing and while communities were great, the cracks started showing around 2016 when everyones followers reset and bots took over, Google stopped caring.
Nobody used it anyways lmao

I truly understand. They tried to update Gmail but it is not the same.
Thankfully I never switched to it.
The only real casualty of Google that has affected me is Google+ shutting down. An absolute waste of a great social networking site.
Hangouts allowed to send images and videos with full resolution perfect for pictures with a lot of text (like a homework) something other messages apps don't do.

Telegram has features like LINE but has more lighter size. And u can also play some games there. Like werewolf, avalon, etc.
Putting them on Google photos and sharing would work to do the same thing I guess.

This is my single biggest critique of Google and the Google ecosystem. It creates this uncertainty around a new Google service and it ensures that I never get too attached or invested. I purposely have to not full heartedly love a new Google service, simply because it could go away and have me searching again. This is something Apple does very well. They keep their apps and services around - instead of completely replacing their service (e.g. Hangouts) with others (e.g. Allo and Duo), they would update their existing service e.g. iMessage. Just look at the iOS 9 to iOS 10 transition, there were massive changes to iMessage, but it was still the iMessage that everyone knows and loves. This also makes it easier for Apple with buy in. If someone is new to the Apple ecosystem, they are a lot more likely to try iMessage because they saw ads or videos about it, they know a ton of people who use it and it is a known entity. I avoid Google's messaging and social platforms like the plague.
And 3 years later even Allo and Duo got killed and got replaced by google messages

Thing about G+ is it had a nice community, it's just the data leaks ended it up going on the chopping block :/
That’s why they need to develop the products internally so that they’re good enough to be adopted by a large audience rather than shelling out empty products and services every three years and then replacing it with a new one instead of just updating the old
Allo was neither of those things.
I'm in the midst of developing an app which lets you preserve your hangouts conversations and keep chatting like nothing ever changed.

I still use Hangouts every single day and so do people that work at Google they had something good and killed it.
I used Google Plus and sincerely liked it. A large part of the community migrated to MeWe. G+ was far superior. Bad decision, Google. 🐯
It was a good decision since TH-cam server was crashed thanks to Google +
I moved to MeWe, but rarely use it, compared to my Google+ usage. 😒

@Jee Vang I think they are doing just that with Google messages, now, that Allo is dead and consumer Hangouts is almost dead and Google messages recently getting 500 million downloads on Google Play without it being the default messaging client on Android.
Because it's a system of operation. Silicon Valley operates on the idea that you must fail a lot before you succeed... Just like VC companies invest in people who've had failures.
They will fail hundreds of times for every massive success.
But you will LOVE those successes. I don't like Google. I don't like any company that uses Censorship. And on top of that they are greedy enough to develop software for the communist China government that will lead to people being in prison for thoughtcrime. That is the very definition of evil, IMO.

When google closed inbox I was overwhelmed by sadness
If allo would've been able to do sms it would've been an awesome app comparable to iMessage, but Google refused to integrate it. This is why I use iPhone as my daily driver and I keep an Android phone of choice just to see what Google is doing.
Google killed Inbox, Allo, URL Shortener, Chromecast Audio, Play Music, Hangouts, Stadia, Poll on TH-cam and now Google is going to kill unlimited photos storage on Photos
For me, the Google Voice app was a replacement for Hangouts. It has text and call functionality close enough to what Hangouts had.
I use Voice primarily.

I'm glad you mentioned the paranoia that comes with using obscure Google services that aren't mainstream. I, and I'm sure many others, don't buy Google hardware or invest heavily into paid Google products because of the fear it will be shut down. Stadia for example; I would be okay paying for the monthly subscription, but I won't buy a controller, because of Google's reputation of keeping services alive for 2-3 years and then killing them off when it no longer suits them.
Evolution of TH-cam Ads.
2010: No ads.
2015: Skip ads.
2018: Skip ads after 5 seconds.
2020: Video will play after ads.
2030: Video may play
2040: Video unavailable, watch ads.
2050: TH-cam renames "AdTube".
I still go to inbox email site, it redirects to Gmail, but I'm gonna keep on doing it
Thankfully Feedly was a port in the storm when Google Reader shut down.
It is still a pity that Google canceled "Project ARA" (or to be precise: not being able to turn it into a consumer product). That approach had so much potential. Not only could there be a whole new line of business for various new modules (similar to App Developers) but also it would have expanded the lifecyle of our devices by far. Would have been a win:win situation for both the consumer (less expensive upgrades) and also for the environment by reusing old modules.
And the fact that a company like google - which probably had the best resources to make it a success - couldn't achieve it, doesn't make me exactly confident that someone else can pull it off later.

I just wish that one day Google will come with some better Social Media Platform. Bcz G+ was good, but the sad part is they didn't cope up with the competition, they didn't even bother to add new UI, features etc.. It was almost the same in 2019 which I used to have back in 2013.

The simple fact that Google's product lines are so uncertain why would a user even bother investing their time and energy into said product. I think this style of "experimenting" as they calls it causes an inherent distrust in their product, and such less people will be willing to adopt a new app and thus the cycle continues.
Next plan, they may kill some of their hardwares due to cannot compete with the new competitor, Huaw...*oops*

I have learned enough over the years now I stay away from Google's stuff except Android, Search and TH-cam. And I think that is one of the reasons why Google Cloud has never taken off.
Google isn’t afraid to jump into a new product area, the majority of these reasons they are cancels are, they have too many of the same product, like email, music apps etc, google+ was a desperate grab to try get into the social media market, apps like allo were cancelled cause it couldn’t compete with Facebook, iMessage doesn’t have this problem because it’s so well polished and feature rich, it integrates text messaging and online messaging in one place with the ability to send money, pictures, videos, location, music, apps etc, the problem with google software and hardware is that the majority of it feels more like it’s from a 3rd party, we all know the chromecast is made by google but subconsciously, whereas other similar devices like the amazon fire tv stick and Apple TV which you know exactly who made it and will continue supporting it, my amazon fire tv stick and Apple TV have continued to add and update the software regularly, on my chromecast I’ve never seen any new features, just the odd update

I used google+ for 6 years, for several hours per day. I met pretty much all my online friends on there, and then they tore it down. It felt like watching your highschool get torn down. We moved on to Mewe, but in the process the whole somewhat tightly knit group fell apart.
When it comes to using technologies, I can say I've been to a few meetings when business clearly stated they didn't want to rely on Google because it is too unreliable. The move from Angular 1 to Angular 2 was hard, forcing to rewrite a lot of code, and most people I know decided to give React a chance instead.
They stopped making Nexus Phones because they started making Pixel's....

Hangouts still works. Non-Google phone numbers (i.e. not Google Voice (free) or Google Fi (paid mobile network)) just don't have SMS capabilities any more. You can still do text, voice, and video chat with an Google users.
If you DO have Google Fi or Google Voice, Hangouts is basically the same. SMS integration plus the above.

Same here! I can't find all my music, my playlists and everything I care about on Google Music on TH-cam Music. They should at least allow to transfer all our data to a new app!

I feel even more neglected by the fact I apparently am still to this day considered one of those idiots who did enjoy Google+
I met some of the best people in my life there and I had stopped using any other social network, since it kept me away from the toxicity of other places like Twitter or Reddit, but with the same freedom.
I still need Google+ back, I cannot stay on TH-cam only, but every other place I got ends up in drama, toxic arguments with people, frustration by seeing all the popular submissions being overrated trash, and I just don't have any place to stay in and have a good time anymore, I lost half of my friends from Google+, one of them really needed my support because they were going through some rough times
and then the platform died and I never saw them again, along with tons of other people I used to really like talking with.
