I’m told she was a truly lovely human being. Loved kids too, and she was in fact a teacher once in her life. Apparently she deeply regretted playing the witch as many children reported being scared of her.
She definitely played the #1 Wicked Witch ever. She’s unforgettable in that role, she did her job and scared the crap out of me as a kid. There’s never been a better witch to date on screen. It’s amazing that that film was shot in 1939 and it still holds up in 2023. My favourite movie and I still watch it every year. Thank-you Margaret Hamilton for this perfect portrayal. #TheWizardOfOz #MargaretHamilton
Margaret was a lovely lady and a great actress, one of the most iconic villains in movie history, but you’d never think so seeing her like this, everyone’s favourite grandma!
Back in 1985 about a month before she left this planet. I had to go to the post office on 23th St and Lexington Ave in Manhattan NY. I was waiting in line behind a little old lady, she was wearing a black dress when the next teller was available she stepped up to the window and began speaking to the teller. I knew that voice right away. Another teller was available by the time I got to that tellers window I turn around she was leaving the post office, I rushed the teller a little bit I wanted to get a chance to meet Margaret by the time I got outside she was gone. A few weeks later she passed away
She’s so right about character acting. It really is the far more fun style. When I was in high school, I was in every single play each year and I NEVER WANTED the leading roles. I wanted the side-characters that got to scare the audience or make them laugh. I got to play Nick Bottom, The Cheshire Cat, Banquo, etc. They were always an absolute blast to play.
I met Meinhardt Rabbe (the actor who played the Coroner Munchkin) in 2004 at a festival at the old Land of Oz Theme Park in NC. Dressed in his blue munchkin costume at the age of 89, he was kind enough to sing his famous line at my request. 🎶 As coroner, I must aver I’ve thoroughly examined her, and she’s not only merely dead, She’s really most sincerely dead!” 🎶
Which is interesting since we don't hear his voice in the movie; you were blessed! I also got to meet Mr. Raabe when I basically lucked into an Oz convention; he was very frail by then, but he was kind and glad to be there.
From what I have read And heard over the years, Billie Burke Who played the good witch was actually very difficult to work with whereas Margaret Hamilton Who played the wicked witch was evidently very well liked on the set of the movie
There are some people who were simply born to play certain parts; Margaret is one of them. She seemed like a doll IRL: I love how concerned she was about how children would view her based on her portrayal
She had initially been offered the role of Grandmama, but had to turn it down because she was doing so many other things. She was more than happy to turn up as Granny Frump more than once.
Margaret Hamilton playing the Wicked Witch was just pure perfection. She will be missed
Such an iconic role. The image stays with you forever.
She's been missed since 1985.
I’m told she was a truly lovely human being. Loved kids too, and she was in fact a teacher once in her life. Apparently she deeply regretted playing the witch as many children reported being scared of her.
I met her. When I was a kid living in NYC. She was a sweetheart
I was scared but I learned to face that fear by watching the movie every year it came on TV .

A role that will live in fame forever.
RIP Ms. Hamilton. Your gigantic performance is movie immortality.
She sounds like a sweetheart
From the people who know her and the cast of the movies she was on, she was always a sweetheart and very nice to everyone
By all accounts Margaret was the exact polar opposite of her most famous character, a truly gentle woman.
She was also "Cora" from the Maxwell House Coffee(A.D.C.) commercials, I didn't make the connection until I saw an interview.

I love her!!! Especially that she was a teacher previously and she promoted literacy. 💚💚💚
what a legend. So dignified & warm.
Margaret Hamilton is a true legend. Most of us remember her by just one movie role and what an unforgettable role that was. Amazing❤

I love her role as the witch 💚
Nobody could play a Witch like the great Margaret Hamilton!
No one has ever come close to her performance.
She was amazing on MR. Rogers
She was also Granmama Frump in the "Addams Family"
Im old now. She still scares me.
From what I have read And heard over the years, Billie Burke Who played the good witch was actually very difficult to work with whereas Margaret Hamilton Who played the wicked witch was evidently very well liked on the set of the movie
NO-ONE delivers that part like her.
No one else could have played that part except for her.
She totally nailed the part
There are some people who were simply born to play certain parts; Margaret is one of them. She seemed like a doll IRL: I love how concerned she was about how children would view her based on her portrayal
One of the greatest lead villains ever in cinema.
Margaret for me is the greatest witch in film.
Beautiful woman, they dont make them like this anymore1
If they ever do a movie of her life story I think Mayim Bialik should portray her.
The witch melting absolutely terrified me as a child
She played one hell of a Granny Frump.
She had initially been offered the role of Grandmama, but had to turn it down because she was doing so many other things. She was more than happy to turn up as Granny Frump more than once.
Fun Fact: She played Both wicked witches 💚🤢👠🧙♀️🖤
The West & The East 🤢🌪🧙♀️ C00L Huh?
Correct! The Witch who Dorothy sees in the cyclone was the WWE.
