The nationalism of an oppressed people is radically different from the nationalism of the oppressor, one is purely reactionary while the other is a tool for self determination. Without its nationalism, North Korea couldn't retain its economic system in the face of continual imperial aggression. Just because a country can't fit by western standards doesn't make it bad in global terms.

Songs had much better quality then than now even in spite of the technological progress and the fact that I actually like electronics and regardless of the ideology, whatever it would be: Socialism, Communism, Syndicalism, Liberalism, Fascism, Anarchism, Monarchism or even National-Socialism. There were songs with a good message or a disgusting, but both had more quality than modern mainstream songs.
