    Hi mate enjoying your rebuild you probably already know what the smaller pipes are for just thought I would tell you the larger one is connected to filler tube and displace air when filling with fuel the smaller one is emissions which vents to charcoal canister have a look at filler neck you will have a looped tube that runs up filler neck ,also rare spares have new tanks quite expensive,I have been though the same process as I’m doing a body off resto on a hz Ute

    Hey mate I recently cleaned 4 of these tanks, none had a hose in there. Those two outlets are a breather and an overflow for the filled neck. Might be an old.siphon hose that got dropped in?

    Barnsey. Did one myself, I’ll share what I did. With regard the filter sock. Leave it in pot of vinegar and water 2:1 vinegar to water. Probably 24hrs then swish it and rinse, see if it needs another day. It’ll dissolve rust. Once it’s done you can neutralise the acid with baking Sosa or demineralised water. Cost $4. Alternatively now your tank is cleaned I suppose you could cut it off and put inline filter along the line. To cover small pipes you can cut the fingers from rubber gloves and cable tie them on. Your tank looks sensational.

      @@BarnesysBuilds i would say so. Not sure how much drag racing you plan with the 355 but just in terms of being usable, if it worked before I'd use it again. Very simple to change later if it dies. See how it looks after that acid bath.

    Looks like a great product. My ute was a 253 on dual fuel but ran a lot better on gas than fuel, so I'm guessing its going to be similar on the inside.
    The builds getting finished in a couple of months either had a lot of help and working on it full time or a big budget and got a lot of it done by professionals. Unlikely they were rotisserie builds either.
    Great progress.

      @BarnesysBuilds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ray, yeah i was actually surprised how filthy it really was, clearly the old fuel cap wasn't sealed for many years and dust gets in, or water got in, or the fuel was shit in the 80's. I'm about 9 months behind here and I am about to start on my HQ resto which is a lot worse than your WB so have been interested in the rust panels etc, very helpful. I have not restored a Holden before as my restos have been European so I'm learning with/from you. As for the fuel tank repair I have done a few of these using the POR product which is the same as KBS. In the case of the Holden tank filler neck and not being able to remove all the sealer I would have used a vacuum/siphon pump to remove the excess. I have a couple of videos about the tank repair on my chanel. Keep up the great work, I'm enjoying binge watching your videos.

    • @kbscoatingsaustralia5709
      @kbscoatingsaustralia5709 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If applied too thick, bubbles can form in the finish. During curing reaction, a small amount of CO2 is released. A thick coating film will have a cured 'skin' on the surface but still be curing and releasing CO2 underneath - this gas can't escape through the skin and you end up with something similar to champagne bubbles in the finish. Sand back to a fault free surface (not necessarily to bare metal) and recoat. Multiple thin coats always better than laying it on thick. 😎

    • @ShenkeGarage

      @@MrThorney1987 Hey mate, yeah nice, well done, mine were alright but they could sieze as they are prone to water and dirt under there, try and oxy torch or butane to heat the nut up to expand it and that might get it off.

    You sure that someone hasn’t accidentally dropped a siphon hose in there. Doubt there was a hose connected to those inner pipes

      Yes it was confirmed to be a siphon pipe.

    For 600 new less the 300 you would get selling the original. I went that way, not much more in cost and saved many many hours. Well done again though. 👍🏻👍🏻

      cheers, Not nsure on the hours saved though once youve listed and sold the old tank, i did the tank in a day at most and saved one along the way which is what it's all about for me.
