Facts!!!! Great interview and what I liked about Monique she’s transparent and truthful. The black community have celebrated Oprah and what Monique have disclosed about Oprah is needed. We appreciated Oprah the journalist/ talk show icon but there’s a mean side of Oprah and Monique been trying to tell us for a long time. Oprah trifling and I can’t support that. Kevin Hart unfunny behind is another one that needs to get exposed.
Bonnets and pajamas outside are tacky. Period. She was talking about taking pride in your appearance. Not looking for acceptance. And she wasn’t talking about having a man. She said a man like MINE, because Tiffany mentioned her husband negatively. Shannon isn’t a journalist which he’s reiterated several times. Club Shay Shay is an intimate conversation between ‘friends’. I think it’s a great way to get to know the guests whereas journalists add/delete things to suit their publications narrative.
After watching the interview with Monique, I must say that I have gained a tremendous amount of respect for her. It's unfortunate that it took me so long to understand the challenges she has faced in the entertainment industry as a black woman, and how many other black women entertainers and black entertainers, in general, have worked against her. Her voice has been ignored for far too long, but now I am listening, and her message is loud and clear. I found her story to be compelling, authentic, and powerful. She is providing valuable insights that are helping me to navigate my own journey towards truth and setting my own boundaries. Monique is brave for speaking up about what many people are afraid to say, particularly those in Hollywood, and she is confronting the issues that have kept us in chains for over 400 years. I can only imagine how much more Monique has to say, but is unable to due to the constraints of the industry. I want to express my gratitude to her for this interview and for standing firm in her truth regardless of who may not agree with her. She is a true inspiration and a role model for all of us. I tip my hat to you, Monique, and thank you for speaking up and demanding change.

Correction. Monique is not a storyteller; she's a truth-teller. DL is a storyteller. Monique talked about business, and DL spoke about her appearance and character venomously. There’s a difference between a “contract” and a “memo,” you know that DL. Continue bucking for Vlad… 👀
However, it sounds like it was an error of the promoters as I heard somewhere that they both received a contract saying they're headlining. Sooooo...to bring up his daughter's sexual "A" based on that disagreement is an all time low. I like Monique but that I can't get down with. Then her and daddy in the video gaslighting trying to make it seem not that bad and demanding an apology. Naw, she better "stand on business" with an apology. I think the bonnets issue is about being respectable for SELF. Not necessarily for the politics. I went to school for journalism so i get what you’re saying, but i think the beauty of SS and his interview style is that he allows the interviewee to speak. He doesn’t cut people off (which is actually something Oprah does), he doesn’t lead the interview, nor does he enforce his opinion. It also helps that the interview isn’t chopped up too much and shortened, bc then no one can say “well i meant this, but you didn’t see that part bc it was cut.” You get full context. SS has a niche. Maybe Nina Parker would be a good interviewer for Mo, bc she’s a journalist and a heavier Black woman in media.
That was a HORRIBLE analogy on your part comparing Monique's critique on bonnets with how she handles her situations with Tyler Perry and Oprah. You TOTALLY missed the point there.

That's crazy to think that any kind of PSA to Black women is acceptable. If nobody ask your comments on their appearance, you keep your thoughts to yourself. That's basic good manners. You guys pos feel entitled to talk crazy to certain groups and I am not not having it.
❤❤❤thank you I was just about to express my feelings towards what he said because I completely disagreed with him about that. Monique was saying what I had heard growing up coming from my grandmothers. Representation, looking kept, having manners and etc... I've always been creativity and love colors and fashion; but there's a time and place for everything. I've even push boundaries for drama effects because being Black around "White Privilege". But there's always a difference. Anyways, Monique's bonnet comment was spot on 💪
I agree. It happens in other cultures though. Back in the day Latina and white women walked out with a head of curlers with a scarf over it. Now, people use that look in photo shoots to convey a certain “aesthetic”. So, please give yourselves. grace. Other groups are given the benefit of individuality - a benefit not extended to you.
My understanding about OPRAH hand picking the actors for the movie was what MONIQUE said, 'but yet and still you had to audition for the part'. That still having to audition part was that the industry can treat you any kind of way, hence the way the actors were initially treated on the set of Color Purple.
Yall really dragging the bonnet thing smh am I gonna go to an interview, work, church etc in a bonnet? No. Will I run to the store, ATM, my momma house in a bonnet? Absolutely. This idea that anytime you leave the house you have to look a certain way or you don’t love and respect yourself is crazy!

Keep a bare face, but don't question being compared to nonblack women who wear makeup and the f***ing list goes on and on. Tge focus on bonnets is really ridiculous. It’s not about the bonnets, it's about people (including other black people) not thinking black women are deserving of basic human respect, so how dare we not show up in this world in a very particular way in order to earn what others get naturally. You don't like bonnets in public then don't wear them in public and look the other way when you see one. You wouldn't catch me on my worse day in a bonnet, but that's a choice I make for myself. You know, how other people should be able to make it for themselves. Outside of the bonnet thing, I enjoyed the interview. Just so tired of everyone taking every free moment to throw a lick at black women.
All of this love! 🙌🏾 I don’t wear sweatpants, leggings, or bonnets in public. But I don’t 💩 on other people for doing so. Because it ain’t my business and it doesn’t hurt me. FACTS. Shannon got some major bias he needs to work on. The “now you know you not supposed to record him” as the first thing he said about Tyler Perry SAYING he made up a lie about her. I just saw another video today of him telling Saweetie, ignoring all her other accomplishments, calling her only “the girl quavo used to date” like seriously?? How SEXIST can you beeee. Read a book. Take a class, listen to women. That’s all it takes to learn
I lovedddd the interview. I went in knowing she was being honest about TP and O. I have had my challenges with Mo’Nique because of some of her comments about the bonnets, but I definitely understand, after hearing her explain it during the interview, why someone of her generation would uphold values aligned with respectability politics. Imagine if Mo’Nique was in the airport with a bonnet, the treatment that she receives given her various identities would definitely impact the perception of her. It makes sense to me and I respect an elder telling us what she feels will help people based on her own experiences. I’m not mad at it! And she should get her just due! What I do *wish*, is that celebrities would stop taking up so much of our time and attention with their million dollar issues when people are struggling. With all this talk about *my people* I just want people with differential amount of power to use some of their social capital to help non-rich n-words change their material conditions. If we going to be about our people, I feel like that’s not an unfair ask.
And she said her security guard looked at her when Tyler did that; and she responded, “You work for me. You don’t work for Tyler. You stay here.” LOVED IT!

The interviews do need to be long…thats why his channel is GOOD! We need to hear the deets in the story….his show is like listening to friends talk….that’s why I like it…plus we need to get our attention span back! And the show still got millions of views even being as long as it is! if I want an interview style where they don’t let you tell the whole story, I’ll watch Barbara walters re-runs
Justin, in the real world the bonnet is an issue. I know people in HR who have literally interviewed people in bonnets and No they did not hire them. Monique is Correct. It’s out of control and it’s not cute. I’m an 80’s baby and I don’t know anyone my age who could have left home like that
The bonnet thing has nothing to do with respectability. This is a woman thing. It’s tacky period. When any other race wear pjs and slippers outside they look a mess too. It’s not wrong to think people should pull themselves together and act like you have some decorum by not wearing bed clothing outside.
This reminds me of the 1st Black Cadet at West Point where he had to ask for permission to sit and eat dinner with other Cadets and was still denied as he moved from table to table asking for permission to just sit and eat. This is very much similar to today.
No what Monique said was Tiffany said she wouldn't have a husband like Monique's husbands. It was about insulting Monique's husband while NOT having one at all
Right! and those people need to go do some fact checking because DL was speaking from a place of guilt and lying his own self he said she was lying but wont specific about what she was lying about him hurling insults at her dont take away from what Monique said it just make DL look like what Mo nique described him to be. And for the people saying Monique was wrong for bringing up his daughter DL been spoke on the story about his daughter Mo just repeated what DL had already told the world for the people that follow and listen to him. A hit dog will holler and that's what DL did.
DL basically confirmed what Monique said in her interview, he just wanted to roast her for outing him. I stand with Monique cause her story has been consistent and she has the receipts to prove it. It's also kind of disheartening how when Katt spoke his peace almost everyone believed him off rip but when Monique does she needs proof and to let go of her issues with these people And I was happy to hear that in both Katt and Monique's interview both said that Bernie Mac was a real one 💪🏾
I loved the interview and it really spoke to me in a lot of ways, especially bc of a situation I am going through right now was a BW. However, I do think there was some internalized misogyny sprinkled throughout. I appreciate her husband helped her grow especially bc of how she said she was. But, I felt like throughout the conversation there was still this underlying thread of needing a man to teach us or train us and put us in our place. Its great when you have a man that can help you but many times its the woman helping the man, especially in our community. I wanted to just think she meant you need a strong man that allows you fall into a submissive role if you want but it felt like a little more than that. Like when she said at the end how BW are conditioned to fight BM and we have to let them be and thats why they go to WW. Ik the last part was in jest but in that comment and many others it seemed like there was some male-centeredness going on that I see a lot among BM. We get a man and eventually acquiescence entirely to a male perspective.

Your Kevin Hart edit during the DUI part is taking me outttttttt 😂😂😂😂
I had to pause the video and laugh for a good 5 mins😂
@@user-hotchocolate I couldn’t stop laughing 😂
Same!
👏 👏 👏
I totally agree
I can’t see another platform allowing anyone to open up like you can on club Shay.
I really enjoyed your take however Shannon Sharpe is very vocal about not being a journalist and considers himself a conversationalist
The Tiffany read sent me
How many times these people gone tell yall about Kevin Hart before yall listen?
KingofReads you have always stood Ten Toes Down for Monique! I have loved you for a Third Years and I will love you a thousand more ❤ keep fighting for Black People and Black Peace ❤
With all due respect she didn’t say any man she said if Tiffany had her MAN aka Sidney that wasn’t misogynistic nor self hatred.
It was in the same context of what she said about Shaq towards the end. About people giving relationship advice and not even in a relationship. Not that there is anything wrong with being single. She was making a point and I got it.
💯
I love ❤️ your perspective on the bonnets. Well, Said. Many can dish it out but can't take it.
Yes she is a GREAT story teller!! Love her voice! ❤ always on point!
No she lied
I know DL's a man but since I am strong, black woman (who has also been SA'd). Monique would have to see me. It'll be some furniture moving around this m*thaf***a*. *in Bernie Mac's vc*
@@PYT.123 I totally get the angry that stems from using personal trauma against you. What I don't understand is why someone would share their loved one's trauma with the world. Some things arent meant for public consumption. When it's used against you, remember it's not a rumor and consider the source from which it came.
Thank you for understanding this interview, it's too many ppl responding in ignorance while not grasping the weight of what she's saying.
Yes Monique has always been truthful and she's call out names! I don't care about Taraji's tears because she should have learned to speak up!
Katt, Monique. Honestly I think we need Mark Curry next. Monique story over the past ten years has remained consistent. Tyler need to write that lady a check and if he don’t she needs to sue for defamation.
Yessss👏👏👏👏Mark Curry and after him Jaguar Wright.
All the wigs got snatched.. all of them.. all of them!
I love when Monique told Shannon “don’t be scared”… I fell out!
Just finished Club Shay Shay and I'm excited to hear your review
Will Smith did the same thing, lied on Janet Hubert and said she was difficult to work with.
Unlike Tyler Perry, he apologized
@@francinehines7765 King 👑 certainly did APOLOGIZE. 😚
1:41 I was just saying this, highly successful and wealthy people didn’t get there by being nice people, and eventually one day someone will tell it
I think the bonnets issue is about being respectable for SELF. Not necessarily for the politics. I’ve seen Monique at the Dekalb Farmers Market- she wasn’t dressed up, but definitely not in a bonnet or house slippers. Did you brush your teeth? Bathe? Are you showing up for YOURSELF? It’s about self respect and pride.
I respect myself and I’ve also gone to Walmart with some sweats on and a bonnet or durag 🤷🏽♀️
@@art2asiaright?? They literally protect your hair. That’s true self respect if you ask me, imma protect my crown no matter what strangers may think 🤷🏾♀️
Did you compare having stank breath to a wearing a bonnet 😩
@@depressedandwelldressed5489 exactly imma wear my bonnet, durag, hat, scarf, whatever the heck I want and if someone thinks because of what’s on my head that I don’t respect myself that’s they problem not mine lol I know me!
This bonnet thing is such a stupid issue to me. I’m Dominican we everywhere with our tubis (kinda our version of bonnets) and nobody gives a fck
100% love your points on responsibility, sing it to the treetops!
Also agree with your note about Mo'nique sitting with an interviewer who understands anti-blackness, misogynoir, and I'll add someone who understands fatphobia and respectability politics.
Exactly!! Auntie story never change also there’s receipts out there. Just watch those gatekeepers are going to fall.
My grandma said don’t go outside with rollers in your hair and bedroom slippers on your feet…she said it’s disrespectful to you and the presentation of yourself🤔🤔🤔she said be a good reflection of your family and those that love you…her words not mine😊

I believe Mo'Nique 💯
Idk why that snap shot of Kevin hart and his wife had me crying laughing. That was hilarious
Dude Monique read Tiffany haddish for filth lol 😂😂😂😂😂
Right!!!! And she said it in such a refined way-reminiscent of a dignified auntie
That was a HORRIBLE analogy on your part comparing Monique's critique on bonnets with how she handles her situations with Tyler Perry and Oprah.
You TOTALLY missed the point there.
Why would Tyler Perry’s experience with Monique be considered a rumor? Perhaps from HIS perspective she was difficult
About the bonnets. Monique said nothing wrong. It's about having self respect and dignity for yourself when you're out in public geeezus🤦🏾♀ These people literally be out here lookin crazy and not giving AF. Liiike. Monique ain't said nothing that my mamma, daddy, grandmamma, uncles and aunt's instilled in me as a child. And it had NOTING to do with white people. 🙄 huuuh. And what people think about her relationship with her husband is SICK SICK SICK.
Agreed it’s out of control
Monique said what she said and I agree 💯. Thanks club shay shay for letting people speak the truth unfiltered
My understanding about OPRAH hand picking the actors for the movie was what MONIQUE said, 'but yet and still you had to audition for the part'. That still having to audition part was that the industry can treat you any kind of way, hence the way the actors were initially treated on the set of Color Purple.
Monique consistently speaks truth… she never waivers and the details always match
While sagging pants are ignored. Smh
@@lululawson1653 oh men can be outside looking a complete fool and nobody says they aren’t respecting themselves, other races can be outside looking a complete fool and it’s ok, but if a black woman has on a bonnet OMG she hates herself she doesn’t respect herself 🤣

I love Shannon's "interview/non interview style." I absolutely loved seeing them both be authentic ❤
Katt and Mo’Nique’s respective interviews were both carried by them. Imagine those interviews with an interviewer who was at least slightly competent in journalism.
This interview had my attention the entire time. Great!!!❤
Don't look too unkempt. Don't look too put together. Don't wear weaves, but make sure you tame your fro. Be slim, but not skinny.
This! Like people are that bothered by pjs and hair scarfs and bonnets.. who cares let others wear it if they want.
All of this love! 🙌🏾
I don’t wear sweatpants, leggings, or bonnets in public. But I don’t 💩 on other people for doing so. Because it ain’t my business and it doesn’t hurt me. Another Black person wearing a bonnet in public, isn’t going to make the whytes see me as a human. Because they won’t, and they don’t..
Thank you!
DL Hughley replied and just made me dislike him more
Right I use to respect him, but seeing how he really handled things put me off of him
Right! He didnt do anything but prove Monique right about his behavior about how he was in regards to his radio show and the things they were saying and talking about.
😂
DL Hughley put his foot in his mouth when attempted to clap back at MONIQUE 😂
Agreed. D.L. gives off negative energy and vibes.
What I do *wish*, is that celebrities would stop taking up
so much of our time and attention with their million dollar issues when people are struggling. With all this talk about *my people* I just want people with differential amount of power to use some of their social capital to help non-rich n-words change their material conditions. If we going to be about our people, I feel like that’s not an unfair ask.
when mo’nique said that Tyler Perry clapped his hands and all of his employees just scattered the room.. i gasps so loud! cos ain’t no f*cking way!
And she said her security guard looked at her when Tyler did that; and she responded, “You work for me. You don’t work for Tyler. You stay here.” LOVED IT!
That was an amazing interview.
As always, your commentary is totally on point. I am so glad that I found your channel!
Hear me out here! 😭😂 Shannon’s approach speaks middle of the road and that’s why it’s successful. He is not asking you to critically think but just enjoy. He said yall can pick up what he left! 😂 Next on Club Shay Shay. . .
The kevin hart and will pakard thing was crazy, they need to be embarrassed!! I remember when that thing happened on the set of the movie and it was on the news but people blew past it because it was Monique. They probably wanted her to get blown up along with the trailer
Tamron Hall x Monique would be a great interview.
This was a well-rounded review of interview
Monique ❤
The Breakfast Club apologized after her interview.... that spoke volume And she didn't need a journalist
Lol I almost choked on my cereal w the Kevin and his rib pic insert lmao 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Damn that. I agree with her on pajamas, bonnets and house shoes. It looks like you didn't bathe before you left the house.
I just watched the interview and it was great! I believe her story is consistent because it’s true.
Justin, in the real world the bonnet is an issue. I know people in HR who have literally interviewed people in bonnets and No they did not hire them. Monique is Correct. It’s out of control and it’s not cute. I’m an 80’s baby and I don’t know anyone my age who could have left home like that
Can’t wait to see who’s next
The bonnet thing has nothing to do with respectability. This is a woman thing. It’s tacky period. When any other race wear pjs and slippers outside they look a mess too. It’s not wrong to think people should pull themselves together and act like you have some decorum by not wearing bed clothing outside.
Exactly. Like, why would you even want to go outside looking like that. Tacky tacky tacky
This reminds me of the 1st Black Cadet at West Point where he had to ask for permission to sit and eat dinner with other Cadets and was still denied as he moved from table to table asking for permission to just sit and eat. This is very much similar to today.
I felt that! The things some of our people have had to endure including violence and/or rejection in order to leave a mark, makes me weep!
No what Monique said was Tiffany said she wouldn't have a husband like Monique's husbands. It was about insulting Monique's husband while NOT having one at all
Now people still want to be calling her a lair because DL opened his big mouth and said so.
Right! and those people need to go do some fact checking because DL was speaking from a place of guilt and lying his own self he said she was lying but wont specific about what she was lying about him hurling insults at her dont take away from what Monique said it just make DL look like what Mo nique described him to be. And for the people saying Monique was wrong for bringing up his daughter DL been spoke on the story about his daughter Mo just repeated what DL had already told the world for the people that follow and listen to him. A hit dog will holler and that's what DL did.
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy you cackling in that thumbnail. It's lovely to see you smile
Protect Katt Williams and Mo’Nique !!
Tiffany opened the door and spoke on Monique’s husband so she got exactly what She deserved
This was really great commentary ❤
DL basically confirmed what Monique said in her interview, he just wanted to roast her for outing him. I stand with Monique cause her story has been consistent and she has the receipts to prove it. It's also kind of disheartening how when Katt spoke his peace almost everyone believed him off rip but when Monique does she needs proof and to let go of her issues with these people
And I was happy to hear that in both Katt and Monique's interview both said that Bernie Mac was a real one 💪🏾
