I believe that Etsy have had to introduce this policy because of the amount of non-handmade/non-vintage sellers that they are happily allowing to set up shops, selling thousands of products that they have shipped in and saturating the market. It's so frustrating.
I am so sorry this happened to you. It is so difficult. I agree it is very likely a consequence of the abundance of new shops flooding the marketplace with non-handmade, non-vintage, non-old-Etsy products...
we been with etsy since 2015, and we have , tracking added 100%, shipping in time 100% star rating is 4.5 and today they put a 30% hold on my account. Cant remember the last time we had a chargeback or dispute! No real change in our business model at all. I sell custom furniture shipping time is 8 weeks and now etsy is going to hold 30% on a 3000.00 piece of furniture that is 900 bucks!! WTF. I am livid. We need to hold 30% of their damn wages.
The only reason I continue to use Etsy is because I feel I keep more of my money than eBay but I am really starting to get frustrated. I need this as supplemental income and it's become more of a burden.
I just started my shop. It’s a digital shop. I don’t need tracking for digital stuff. It’s available to download the moment someone pays and buys it. Also it’s brand new so I only have 2 listings still they placed a reserve on my account
I’ve had a profitable and successful Etsy shop since 2008. 5 star rating and no problems with returns or customer issues. I had a reserve placed on my shop in mid 2023. 15% of my orders are from customers ordering custom made items that take longer to ship then my normal 14 day shipping schedule. Etsy does not have options for shops to classify orders as custom built items that might take longer to ship. Incredibly poor planning by Etsy.
