- The 2023 season marked the beginning of a new era in the NASCAR career of Kyle Busch. It was the first year driving for RCR and with Tyler Reddick leaving suddenly KFB was viewed as the perfect replacement. Did Kyle Busch and the 8 team live up to expectations? Now that the '23 season is done, how do we feel about it?

As a Busch fan, it was a good start but RCR really needs to get their mistakes and short track package under control…I loved those 3 wins tho

You can’t call this a bad season by any stretch of the imagination, no matter if RCR slowly regressed around him or not. I’d honestly expect him to keep up these good statistics for another decade at least. He still has another 10 years left in him.

@@alawalter918 You’re forgetting that in the second half, he also had quite a few bright spots. 5 top 5s and 8 top 10s in the 2nd half of the season after Sonoma is nothing to be ashamed of, as he was always still competitive. I’m not saying it was perfect, but to say it was mediocre, and putting him down with the JJ Yeleys and Scott Wimmers is downright ridiculous.

It reminded me a lot of his first season with JGR. Hot start, but really falling off as the season went on.
In Kyle’s defense, RCR performance fell off a cliff during the second half of the year in cup and Xfinty.

I think it was because thats when RCR as a whole started going downhill and Kyle tried pushing the limits but this car is very punishing (as he said)

As a rowdy fan, the highs were high but the lows were reeeeeallllly low, however im confident that with Kyle having more free time with selling KBM and the 8 team knowing what they need to do, we'll absolutely be back next season
I think it was a solid start for him at RCR, he’ll only get better
2024 now
It’s a decent first season, first half was great, but his second half was inconsistently 101. They have the speed, just gotta keep building on their success and focus on consistency for 2024 and beyond.
Honestly, I saw a lot of Jeff Gordon’s 2005 season in Kyle Busch’s 2023 season. Great start, led the points early on, but hit their peak early and then struggled midway through the season.
Since BFM marked Gordon’s 2005 season as a bad one, I’m going to mark this also as a bad season- but I think there’s potential for them to be competitive in 2024.
But gordon was so dominant seasons prior, KFB was falling the last 3 seasons compared to his championchip season in 2019. This is in the 2020's KFB fasion a good season fro him.

3 wins a record broken but out of the round of 12 and way to many mistakes.
He needs more practice so the old ish KFB back
I was there when he won at Talladega, which was the first race I saw in person. It was awesome
His First Season at RCR was definitely an improvement in comparison to his Final Season at JGR

RCR needs a much better short track package in order to keep up. Other than that, I’d call this a pretty good season for Busch. I used to hate him, but I’m starting to like him now!
Id say it was a better season then tthe last 3 years at JGR but he for sure needs and i belive he absolutely WILL be better next year with at the very least 4 wins

I will say this though Kyle Busch made RCR look way better than it usually is
I'd say that it was an okay season, especially with a new team.
2:16 I was at that race and was surprised by how many people cheered.
in my opinion I'd say it exceeded my expectations for him being in an RCR car, but then as the season went on people just kind of kept piling up more expectations
3 wins and breaking Petty’s consecutive win record is a very successful season but the question is whether this season is a flash in the pan or not.
I would say it was a good season, changing teams is always a risk for good or bad. You go from familiar surroundings to new, unfamiliar surroundings, hoping the new ones are better than what you left behind. Considering how his final season with JGR went, this first season at RCR is definitely an improvement.
Time will tell whether it will be sustained and he could become a championship contender again in the future with RCR
This is gonna be the new norm from him . Rcr is to inconsistent to give him a championship run . He’ll win 1-2 races per-year for the rest of his career. I’m ok with this , he has an all star career .

I was surprised by how he did, but I do hope he can win the playoffs and become a 3-time Cup Series champion next year, because with 3 wins, 10 top 5s, 17 top 10s, an average finish of 15.0, 6 DNFs and a 14th points finish in 2023, let's hope that Kyle Busch can make a comeback in 2024.
Overall, I'd call it a success considering most people would call RCR a downgrade from JGR. Any blunders they had, I'll just chalk up to first season adjustments

As a long time Kyle Busch fan, my expectations going into this year were kinda slim, but I got so much more out of this season than I initially expected with those 3 wins, although the second half was a bit of let down, definitely better than 2022
I was questioning whether or not people were overhyping Kyle Busch at the beginning of the season because he's with a new team. Saying like "He's gonna come out swinging" or "He'll make a deep playoff run" or "He'll win most of the season".
As a Kyle Busch fan since 07 it was a great start then just fell apart at the end much like 08 everything after Sonoma just something was off at RCR in cup and xfinity
Crybaby Busch is overrated trash
I think it was good, 3 Wins, 17 Top 10s, 10 Top 5s and a 15 average finish. The 6 DNFs were bad and when he was inconsistent he was BAD, so I think the team could improve next year for sure.
It was like as soon as nascar went to nbc, all the momentum disappeared
If I had to rate Kyle Busch's 2023 season, I'd give him a 6/10. Decent but unspectacular season by his standards
He was disappointing by the expectations set by fans, but at the same time, this is his first season with a new team and a new manufacturer. I expect much more from KFB in 2024
This year was a good foundation for Kyle and RCR to start on. 3 wins and a top 10 points finish are nothing to get mad about. But now they know what areas they need to go to work on for next year. The shorter ovals for sure need improvement. But the speedways, superspeedways, and road course programs look pretty solid right now. Your not going to learn a whole lot when your out in the lead dominating a race. You learn the most when your trying to make your way to the front through the whole race. It lets to know what adjustment to and not to make for next year. 2024 and beyond could be an even bigger step forward for Kyle and RCR as a whole. Don't have a lot of faith in Austin Dillon though. He's pretty much got that seat for as long as he want it. However, he's gonna have to step it up if RCR wants to return to a championship winning organization.
The main problem RCR faced this year was their short track package. It simply just isn't good enough at the moment. Their setups for the other tracks have continued to be good, but they kept getting caught up in other people's messes in the second half of the season. Also, occasionally Kyle would push too hard and spin out on his own. Next season certainly has the potential to be just as good, if not better, but they need to fix their short track setups and probably need to be a bit more careful at the intermediates.
my favorite KFB stat for 2023 is the fact that he won the 2nd week and the 15th week, both for the first time in his career. he's only missing the 1st week and 26-27 and 30-32
Randall Burnett staying was so important for Kyle Busch's career

if this team can put a whole season together there definitely a championship level team no doubt but its been a good first season for them together
With team changes it was good for him but he had an early elimination in the playoffs

Kyle Busch is best thing that's happened to Richard Childress Racing in years ever since Kevin Harvick and the late great Dale Earnhardt Sr. So is 3 wins a good season...Yes. Kyle also said he would like to drive the 3 car hopefully Richard will make that possible as well.

Any season where you get 3 wins is a good season. Was it a great season? No. Compared to what Reddick did in that car last year he did good. Compared to what his teammate did this year? Miles better. If we go on the whole team’s performance that would mean RCR had a worse year this year than they did last year. But Kyle still pulled off 3 wins. And they weren’t lucky wins. Talladega he still passes for the lead before they fully wreck with how loose they got and we’ll never know what would happen coming to the line but that don’t matter
My biggest issue with his season is the lack of laps led. Only 241- half of which came at Gateway. Reddick led over 500 last year. To lead only 120 over 35 races is not good at all.
Overall he still had a far better season than he did in 2022 and they will take what they've learned from this season and build upon it for next season. The short track program definitely has to improve at RCR along with fixing the mistakes that plagued them at the end of the season. There's definitely a lot to look forward to for this team.

RCR needs to figure out their short track package. Its crazy to see someone thats such a monster on any track do so poorly.
Been a Kyle fan since I started really following NASCAR in 08'. Compared to his final couple years at JGR, his first year at RCR was good. Sure it left something to be desired when the bad finishes and DNF's piled up but 3 wins and round of 12? I'll take it.

It was decent season for his first with RCR every team is going to have flaws it's just what 2024 will bring to see if he can improve and the team as a Busch fan it was better than his last 3 with Gibbs so I would give it a B or B- not to bad
Well considering he had his worst finish in points since his rookie season with a 14th place finish in the standings, I still think compared to last year, it’s a mild improvement. Sure he won 3 races, but he didn’t gained all that much in Top5s & had the exact same Top10s as 2022. Also he led 241 laps, which is very un-Kyle Busch-like. So overall, he only improved in wins, Top5s, & average finish, but everything else, it was mostly flat from last year. Matter of fact, I can go so far as to say that Kyle’s performance this year is much like a year ago, with the only MAJOR difference being the wins. Was it good? At first, yes. Was it bad? Well again, based on how he finished in the standings is a shocker, this is two years in a row he finishes outside the top10 in points, one spot lower than a year ago as I already mentioned. Not a bad season for Kyle, but with all due respect, I thought it was flat.
Also you have to understand this is the first time he’s with new sponsors, new manufacturer, new crew Chief. New everything so while he struggled a lot in the 2nd second half, we’ve also got to understand he’s with a new time and it will probably take some time to adjust

Do Not a Bust with Aric Almirola, even he did had less wins and but he’s still NOT a bust.
The chase itself is not exclusive enough, in my opinion. 16 cars is too many. Cut it in half. 8 is a more reasonable number. Then simply winning doesn’t automatically lock you in. You still have to be consistent as well.
The difference between this and last season is that I can forgive a team not in their prime like RCR to make mistakes and he still brought three wins home. JGR, meanwhile, felt like they had no excuse to give him such bad equipment. On that metric alone, I call this season a success.
Ty Gibbs is a bit overhyped for my liking

I would say 2022 and 2023 were bad seasons for completely different reasons.
2022 was bad because JGR completely gave up on Kyle and had for years at that point.
2023 was bad because RCR doesn’t have a good short track package and because the 8 team couldn’t find consistency to save their lives. One intermediate race they win, the next they run 14th. One short track race they run outside the top 20, the next they run 3rd. All sounds like first year growing pains if you ask me. I still have faith RCR can take us Rowdy fans to the promised land for now
I think disappointing would be a nice way to put it. The season started out with so much promise in the first half, but the second half just wasn’t too great, especially by KB standards
It's good as fair as setting a tone. Richard needs to put the money where his mouth is and make Kyle the Focal point of this entire organization and get him the best equipment. Since it's clear his grandson isn't going to be dale earnhardt.
I personally don’t know if RCR was as good as last year. Austin Dillon was terrible and Kyle Busch did as well as I think he could’ve. I’d say it was good, but I hope next year is better
It was a good season. I expected growing pains all season. Not him to get 3 wins. Just hope he can get AD in VL now

It was a mixed bag honestly.
For me, it was good. The 3 wins were really all I needed. Get real guys, Kyle's never gonna win 7 championships. That's fine by me. The 2 he got are enough for me. I just want to see Kyle winning races on a regular basis again. If 2023 is what the rest of Kyle Busch's career looks like, I'm happy. Ill take a 3 win per season guy anyday over whatever the hell he was in 2022. Besides, how awesome would it be to see Kyle catch Dale Earnhardt's 76 win mark in effectively what is the same team he drove for?

2024 will be one step better for Kyle Busch
His first season at Chevy since 2007 was fine. 3 wins as opposed to the one he had last season. You cannot in hell call this a bad season.

I'd say a good season, not solid, not great, but good. I wanted this season to be the revenge tour, but I knew there would be some growing pains. I think next year will be his revenge tour especially after 2022

If Kyle Busch doesn’t wreck at Texas he probably makes it to the round of 8. Before he wrecked he was charging to the front and it looked like he was the fastest out there.
As a Busch fan, I knew he wasn't going to get far in his first season. 3 wins was more than I could've asked for, but inconsistency was his and his team's downfall in the Playoffs.

I would say that the 3 wins makes it a good season by default. However, the mistakes from driver and team need to be cleaned up to have a great season. It will be a disappointment if he doesn't make the round of 8 at least next season.
