That's not the way the motor is supposed to be. It is a repulsion-start-induction-run motor. It should start like that then a governor switches it once it gets up to speed.

Yep, the motor is not healthy at all. Should not spark once running.

My research indicates a major compressor tank manufacturer stopped producing riveted and brazed "Insured" pressure tanks between 1-27 and 10-28.

Hi all, I have an old USA air compressor similar to the one in this video, however it was not maintained as well as this one. I'm wondering if anyone can give me some hints how to price it if I would like to sell it. The air dial says 1906, otherwise I'm having a hard time telling what year it was made.

Motor needs immediate attention to prevent permanent damage. Brush holder position needs to be adjusted and/or a commutator job needs to be performed & new brushes installed. It's set too close to hard neutral if the sparks are anything to go by.

I just started restoring the same exact compressor slightly newer GE motor and motor frame and was originally built as a standalone unit eith the tank separate as its got a much much larger cast iron base the compressor head and motor base set in together thst would get bolted down. Anyone knows of any parts laying around let me know id like to restore as closecas possible to orginal.

The only part we needed to replace was the leather belt. We have a great manufacture out of Chicago if you need one. Thanks for watching. Jeff

Sure ill take a nod in the right direction for a belt. Mine externally isn't as nice, needs stripped and painted, but the reeds and all the brass bushings and all internals are fantastic still. The motor was seized up thats all that was wrong with it... need new paint and the proper belt and pulley and she's ready supply shop air for another 100 years. Theyll never make stuff like this again.

I have a 1920s USACCO . The serial number is 4 numbers with an HA at the end so it was one of the first ones they made

I am restoring (well, cleaning up) one of these Usaco compressors. It's in pretty bad shape. I could use pics from any nice ones out there.
