I think the expression that comes over Billi's face when she's considering words is interesting. It's like the lessons are creeping in, and it almost weirds her out when she understands something. LOL

I've had a really shitty day today, so I surprised myself when I actually LOL'd at that point... she completely froze while processing it, and I thought my screen froze for a moment, haha... that look on her face, omg....
This whole video is awesome... Billi is being such an adorable, loving, sweetheart here... and so intelligent... plus we got purring, the little tongue sticking out (which I only just learned is called a "blep", lol), the big yawn and stretch, and those little mews... I just love her! :)
“all done” is a much more convenient way of saying it than scratching my eyes out

The way her tail swishes proves you right! Tiny, slow tail swishes mean annoyance. Fast, wide swishes like we see with Billi mean stimulation. In other words, she's having a lot of fun!

My newer cat hit her first button today!!! Sorry I'm too excited not to share. Shes 3, a rescue and I've only had her just shy of 2 months, her previous owner had started training. Billi inspired me to get my own buttons and continue. Your vids help me understand what she's trying to say with limited buttons. Thank You! It's been worth it. Ok this was the best one ever. She literally communicates with you at this point. Not just meowing her needs with buttons; actually informs you and lets you know about her thoughts.

My moms cat Joey does the tongue out thing also. However, he was a trap and release stray, you cannot hear him purr. You can feel it though. I think it was a survival mechanism for living on the street in the neighborhood so long.
Same thing with my baby, although she had a bad respiratory infection when she was a kitten, so that could have affected things. But yeah, she was a stray in Brooklyn, and her purr is basically a vibration.
I love her expressiveness while she tries to figure out how to respond to you, and how she is so resolute when she decides the right response is "love you". Though maybe you should get her two new buttons: "don't understand" and "try again".
She has a "hmm?" button and one time used it when she didn't understand that they were going on the road. It was surprising watching her ask for clarification. 🙂

I think it was because Mom worded her sentence a little differently than normal, between the buttons and her spoken words. It took Billi a moment to work it out, but I think she did... or at least enough to know that "love you" would be an appropriate response!
Totally reminds me of my Stella. She was a tortie too. Everything was done by her clock. When she felt she’d had enough lovin and attention, it was on to the next thing. Definitely queen of the castle. She was a torties through and through. I still love her and miss her terribly.

That took good critical thinking on Billie's part to remedy mom's desire to cuddle more when they were done. She thought about it thought about her options then said what anyone would, "I (still) love you". Wow seems like we as a whole may be really underestimating the maturity and intelligence of or furry friends. 🐈🔊💚

Billi is a precious furry bundle of intelligence! We can get a lot out of trying to speak to our pets, and Billi is just so adaptive!

Oh my gosh, that loving face, close up. She loves you so much. You guys are so fortunate to have Billi and she's so lucky to have such good humans. I'm so amazed at her use of these word buttons, real language communication. -- I wish veterinarians and shelters would do studies with these. Not only could they raise money to help cats and dogs, but they could do real scientific research on cat and dog communication, language, and cognition and intelligence, with a wide sample range that way. The ability Billi shows seems on the high end for a smart, socialized cat, but I would guess many house cats could do about as well (not faulting Billi, I think she is very smart). This could tell linguists and psychologists a lot about human language development too, by offering a comparison to a higher mammal. Has anyone tried this with the great-cats? Or wolves? Wow!
