    Main reason comic books are dying is the cost. What you pay for comics today is absolutely ridiculous. My mom gave me $5.00 a week and comics cost .20 cent to .25 cents at cover price. I would come home with the average 16-20 books a week. It was a pure joy coming home with a snack go to my room and read to my heart's content. Today I would have to give my kid $100.00 dollar to come home with 20 books. Collecting back issue of silver age books, the average cost is $25.00 to $100.00 dollars depending on the issue. Super key books on Heritage I've seen books go for $20,000.00 to half a million. I'm glad to see the comics have been a huge success in movies. Which make no sense why comic book prices are so high. A personal cannot indulge in buying a variety of different books just to see if they would like the story line. An digital book down loads cost the same price as a regular book. WHAT! Then there's target audience kids aren't buying comic because cost is aim at the adult audience. There is no next generation and the adults that do collect are either selling there collection to make money or cut back refusing to buy as many due to cost. I wish there was a Brattle comic book store that sold books cheap. Sorry for ranting. I needed to let that out.

    We have one comic shop left in our local area. Which resides in a mall that is slowly dying. It's hanging on by its finger tips. I throw as much business its way as I can but.....

    A Steve Rant needs no warning. It’s a marketing hook.
    Btw it’s a religion but isn’t Christianity. It’s a competing social justice religion.

      Yes, yes absolutely: it isn't Christianity. I should have been more sharply-worded about that, but I was STEAMED!

    "Stan Lee Virus" That explains so much! Marvel had a Star Comics line for kids in the '80s, I saw one Mighty Mouse issue. The villain came with a footnote on his history. I love a convoluted continuity more than anyone, but, no, that's not how you write a Mighty Mouse comic. But the writer couldn't help it, he had the Stan Lee virus!

    Amazing, Steve. You forgot to say that that God they believe in and want people to worship is themselves. I wonder what will be the next thing they try to destroy, and if they will be let in or people already know how to combat them.

    • @saintdonoghue
      @saintdonoghue  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Yes: themselves, looking smugly back at them right there in the mirror. I meant "Christian fundamentalist" here only in the sense of the unreachable moral corruption, but I can see how the mention of Christianity is confusing the way I used it. What can I say? I was STEAMED!

    Don’t forget the ultimate hypocrisy. Changing characters to be more diverse while simultaneously ignoring the minority characters that ALREADY EXIST THAT PEOPLE ALREADY LOVE!!!! AND DOING IT ON PURPOSE!!!! WHERE IS MY JOHN STEWART GREEN LANTERN MOVIE?!!! You know what. No. Please don’t make that film. Don’t ruin that too.

    for foreign audiences, even anime is being modified by "localisers". scenes which don't mention politics are having translators personal politics inserted, such as the recent "pesky patriarchal societal demands" controversy.

    Hello Steve. Thanks for your video. Archie Comics may be free from what DC AND MARVEL COMICS are going through. Right? What do you think?

    Manga actively caters to its audience. And Japanese bookshops are riotously fun (and thriving) because of it. You explained the decline very well.

    100% agree with your assessment.
    Thanks for bringing up the Crimson Avenger.
    I swear on the dedication to climate change; I read Detective Comics #44 last night when Crimson tries to distance himself from the Green Hornet by a change of costume and unexplained super strength.
    Spoiler alert:
    He breaks a gorilla's neck and lifts a lion over his head.

    It’s all corporately motivated. Whether it appeals to the crowd that wants diversity or incites rage in the diehard fans, it’s all designed to draw attention and create interest. Marvel and DC don’t really care about inclusivity, they just do it because it’s the only thing that makes them at all relevant these days.

    The desecration of intellectual properties and bastardisation of characters, piss poor quality and inane lacklustre storytelling, erasing and or rewriting things most loved are very off putting to all of us evil people who once spent a consideral amount on their entertainment. At least I know why comics suck, it's clearly my fault, I was beginning to think it was them. A great Epic Comic Book Wednesday episode, I look forward to seeing the tshirt "Purge the Zealots" available at all good newstands and comic retailers.

    thank you - now I finaly realize why I stopped buying comic books. I tried to switch to bandes déssinees but my french is not good enough, so now I am not even looking for them anymore. They lost me for good . ( do they REALLY have a woman Thor ??? that is ridiculous)

      @saintdonoghue  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thor isn't a woman anymore, I should clarify - all the examples I used here were things done in the full flush of this ideological nonsense, a few years ago. To put it mildly, the situation hasn't improved since

    The X-Men showed the flaw of revelling in continuity. I loved the X-Men but while Claremont and Byrne rode the popularity of that title they also saddled it with such burdensome continuity that it became impossible to follow. Add to that mega multi-titled crossovers every other week- characters and multiverses dying and then being resurrected…who cares?

  • @The8BitChampion
    @The8BitChampion 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Everything has continuity that's what makes being a fan person fun. Ever heard of "its not the destination but the journey to get there?" Without continuity there's no sense of discovery or learning about something. Without continuity your just basically a very lazy individual that doesn't want to learn about the past, present, or future.

    Isn't another reason why comic books are dying is because they belonged to a simpler age? It's hard to think about life as just black hats v white hats, we've seen enough lousy behavior from the 'good guys' to make it hard to take heroes seriously now.

    Hey Steve how come none of your videos have any likes (👍🏻)? Has TH-cam put you in their jail? Did they demonetize you? Are you on some kind of probation? I didn’t check every single one of your videos but I went back a few months and none of your videos have any likes (👍🏻) on them…I thought something was wrong with my account but my other accounts show likes (👍🏻) Any reasoning for this?
