2:30 Sometimes, Balikbayans who speak with an accent get frowned upon. They’re misunderstood as “maarte”. People dont understand that it IS absorbed after living for some time abroad. And also, some locals of the places they’re from would sometimes have difficulty understanding them if they don’t speak with the local accent kahit konti.

Your accent may also be a talent. Some people are just born with it or when your dad is American and he speaks to you in English when you are a baby. Babies absorb sounds.

This is true, im from the philippines as well and i grew up watching english cartoons, and growing up i learned a few different languages and i find it very easy for me to mimic or absorb different accents and languages that im learning, i dont have that struggle wherein one sounds foreign when speaking a different language from their native (except for maybe when my grammar is off or when i dont use the slangs)

Interesting aspect of lingguistics. I live in Singapore and curious why some kids who grew up here adopt a western accent instead of the local accent. I realized it could be the shows they watch. Their parents speak pretty much Pinoy English accent.

That is true. I mastered speaking in English ( but I'm not a pro), just by watching US TV series. It really helps you alot by reading CCs and mimicking them the way they speak.

I think we just overthink it. Just speak in your own way, english or not. It is develop overtime 😊❤️

I always thought that Kryz had a valley girl accent too. Most probably she got it from watching US TV shows in the 2000s because it was common then (Gossip Girl, the OC). Whatever accent you have doesn’t matter as long as your words are kind and true.

I watched many cartoons on Cartoon Network and other American stuff during my life and my English is not fluent (I am 34). Having English like this means you're having American family members/friends or you were working hard on developing this skill.

Same. I was in Canada for a business trip (first time ever in that part of the world) and people asked if I grew up there or in the States because they said I sounded like them. I explained that it's because I grew up watching Sesame Street!

their are many types of filipino english accent. the Thick English Accent, the Coño Style Accent, the Sterotypical English Accent, Soft Style, and what amazing about us filipino is easy for us to imitate other countries english accent.

Accent can be Learned.... Modesty aside... I am a Filipino but I can speak with a stiff british accent and standard american slang accent :-) The way i learned is by listening and watching the specific accent of a certain accent.

I think a lot of gen z filipinos can relate to this. Because of how easy it is to connect social media and because of the wide spread of english you can now learn and speak English without any particular accents except having British accent, Aussie accent like me and American accents of course. So I think the term Filipino accent is now slowly Fading away which is good to be honest.

I live here in canada and even mga puti (canadians) use LIKE for a lot of times whenever nakikipag converse sila, especially ung mga teens pa or bata pa.
