Lol, 1985, my freshman year in high school, remember all the headbangers jammin' to many of these songs in the parking lot before and after school, thanks for bringing me back👍🏽
I'm a huge Dokken fan and always liked Under Lock and Key but not as much as the other early albums. Also love Marching Out. Invasion of Your Privacy would definitely be on my list. Overall, good list. Thanks for taking the time to talk about great rock and metal albums. I was a sophomore in high school when most of these were released so one more reason I like to hear the reviews.
1. Michael Bolton - Everybody's Crazy 2. Mr Mister - Welcome to the Real World 3. Rush - Power Windows 4. Accept - Metal Heart 5. Dokken - Under Lock and Key 6. Fortune - S/T 7. Dio - Sacred Heart 8. Starship - Knee Deep in the Hoopla 9. Shy - Brave the Storm 10. Slayer - Hell Awaits
A couple of others I didn't hear mentioned were Keel - The Right To Rock, Accept - Metal Heart, and Kiss - Asylum. Oh, and 2 amazing live albums from 1985 were Iron Maiden - Live After Death and Scorpions - World Wide Live. I know you said it barely missed the list, but I personally would've included Lizzy Borden - Love You To Pieces
1. Helloween - Walls of Jericho 2. Savatage - Power of The Night 3. Fates Warning - The Spectre Within 4. Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion 5. Universe - Universe 6. Virgin Steele - Noble Savage 7. Slayer - Hell Awaits 8. Overkill - Feel The Fire 9. Megadeth - Killing Is My Business 10. Loudness - Thunder In The East
Nice! My list would be different (of course), but love Dokken Under Lock & Key #1. Top ten hair metal album, easy! My personal #1 would be either Slayer - Hell Awaits or Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion. Overkill, Pentagram, & Megadeth would HAVE to be up there too.
Thanks for shedding some light on the band Chastain... mystery of Illusion is excellent their next three or four albums also good David T Chastains instrumental variations album killer!..... if you want more David T Chastain check out his local Cincinnati rock band....C.J.S.S. praise the Loud album all albums excellent guitar work and vocals
I saw Chastain at Bogart's in Cincinnati about 4 years ago..... reunions tour leather was excellent talk to her after the show and told her so.... David T Chastain is always superb on guitar...... I turn 60 and I'll just I Still Love Heavy Metal and hard rock . .
I think I'm in the wrong class over here 🤣🤣 No one has S.O.D. 's "Speak English or Die" album on their list for best of '85. Not even in anyone's honorable mentions?!? It was definitely not a guitar virtuoso's record, but the energy of the album was palpable. As far as credibility, there isn't a "metal" musician out there that didn't hear that and instantly know that "heavier" sounding music had just taken a huge leap forward. Just my opinion.
Dude, did you omit Medusa just to get peeps like me to chirp? :P Not gonna argue with the top, one of the greats of all time for sure. Honorable mentions: KISS - Asylum. Underrated, got some classic 80's metal KISS on it. Who Want's to be Lonely, Tears are Falling and Uh! All Night. Was always more of a 'Paul' than a 'Gene' guy and really loved these tunes, can still listen today ad nauseum. Kix - Midnight Dynamite. Easily would have made my top 10, maybe even top 5. Got the title track, Cold Shower, Lie Like a Rug, Sex & the incomparable ballad Walkin' Away. Really great band and maybe their strongest release, IMO. Overkill - Feel the Fire. Great thrash debut. Rotten to the Core, Overkill and the phenomenal cover of Sonic Reducer. I suppose the criteria was studio releases and not live albums because Live After Death would have made my list. Another fun clip, thanks for sharing Bryce.
