We often talk about how we label others, but how we label ourselves is even more important. When our own labels become synonyms that define us, rather than simply adjectives that describe us, there are both internal and external consequences: a fragile sense of self lacking resilience, and a handicapped ability to interface with others who don’t share our labels. As Lance illustrates, this impacts more than just diversity concerns, but the very mechanism of creativity and innovation

I watched this video a while ago and it was one of the many video about labels I watched.
but i am re-watching this a couple months later and I'm realizing that, this is such an important concept that everyone has to learn sometime in their life, I am glad that I get to at least know of it as an 18 year old instead of being blind then feeling the crushing results much stronger later in my life.

I've seen first hand the damage that can be done when I define myself by my labels instead of merely describing myself by them. In an age in which we find ourselves more and more siloed by any number of categories, this is a much needed reminder to look at what's most important. Great talk Lance!
