dear fellow animal collective fans,
its worth the obsession, i promise.
Sincerely, an obsessed animal collective fan.
Seven years later, my addiction hasn't improved. Only worsened.

Discovered them at 13, just got my Person Pitch LP, though they've shifted so much post-Painting With, I come to the groove of what they built including Centipede Hz, happy 20th to Sung Tongs!
I love that the audience reacted to the first hint of "Brother Sport".
did anyone else notice that panda's drum kit is missing like everything, he's got a fucking cabasa for a hi hat. there's a set of bongos and no snare drum. like there's no way
Only something ringo could pull off I stg
LET HIM COOK
@@pete5367Lol
If I could do anything I'd send this video back to 1950 and show people this is what music has evolved into.
Taylor Foerster It'd be just like the guitar solo in Back to the Future.
Taylor Foerster They would criminalize music to prevent it from happening. That's just how they did shit back then. Animal Collective would be considered some bad voodoo.
just makes me wonder what music is gonna sound like another 60 odd years from now
***** death grips will sound like elevator music
I would work hard to get a job in top office of the tallest building downtown
I don't understand how this band can be real. This is incredible.
One of the greatest bands I have ever seen...
umkwaig same ;)
Me too. Been lucky enough to seem them twice and I was blown away both times.
Panda's mic level was a crime
Panda Bear's drumming is so interesting. The random stuff he uses makes it even better.
He’s the Ringo of our generation
I came back to this video just to watch the little orb drum he used during this era lol
i love how happy everyone is during brothersport.. and they have a right to be, the music is incredible
Woah
This performance got 10 years this week.
*Noah
Poor Panda! He needs a nap.
Make sure the machine's workin' right!
4:23 Geologist can't see these haters.
Richard Fukuda he's always doing his signature headshake, it's great
dunno what he does! you serious?
God damn Panda looks exhausted
he always does
Argyle Rings He looks wicked high lol
Argyle Rings I saw him in September and I swear to god he didn't open his eyes during the entire performance. Lol.
Re Ra
He needs some milk
Somewhere I am in that crowd and this was the most amazing thing I ever saw. I had seen them many times before but these 12 minutes were incredible. Got me so pumped for Centipede Hz.
I’m jealous
geo's House shirt is so great
the set up of noah's drum kit is so interesting
They said that they don't want music, especially touring, to take away from their family lives, they won't go on a big tour if it means spending time away from their girlfriends/wives/children. I think they do enjoy playing though.
This is one of my favorite versions of this song.
man so intense----way more dynamic and spastic than recorded version---takes me back to the reverend green days
Who else wants to be this bro down towards the front @ 7:05 puffing on cheba and living his life???
Adrhodes442 he living the dream.
the noises that come out of them can seem so primitive. it is like they are digging outside of their guts for the sound. i am so excited to see them in september. i have been listening to them for 6 years, and this will be my first time.
I bet your whole life changed huh
Really need to pull out of my "Feels," vinyl... Started listening to Animal Collective around 17-18. Still fascinating to me many, many years later. Makes me wish I picked up more of their vinyl records at the time. I have one other, but it's not with me... Will have to check which one. Thank you, Pitchfork, for posting this footage/recording!
💡
I know, it's sweet. It's basically a percussion kit with a bass drum, haha. The dude's a virtuoso.
I think we all know the star of this video was the inflatable spiderman
Monkey Riches is one of my favorite AnCo songs of all time. I think it’s pretty underrated by the fanbase, but it’s on par with other long bangers like Fireworks and For Reverend Green.
It's definitely one of their best but i think the production of the studio version is not doing it any favours. This version on the other hand...just takes it to a whole new level
It was clear then but after all these years it's even clearer how this album live was leagues ahead in terms of a sonic experience, than the mix of the album. It was not mixed well at all for the most part.
I bought the Friday ticket for Pitchfork last year JUST for this AC set, and they did not disappoint. This video cannot accurately capture how awesome these moments were for me.
JUSTICE
I was at this show it was absolutely beautiful
🙏🏽 you’re blessed
THERE'S TOO MUCH AWESOMENESS IN THIS VIDEO I DON'T THINK I CAN HANDLE THIS, ARRHRRRGHGHHH
Wow Awesome quality, c'est comme si on y értait !! I love so much that band , Thanks for posting this
Somewhere in this mob I am watching in awe. What a great show. Seeing them in Hollywood at the Bowl in Sept...can't wait!
dude in front ripping a fat blunt at 7:03
midnightskate god i wish that were me
2022 - i love this performance 💙
I can only imagine how this is gonna come together if it gets a studio treatment.
i love the stage
I CAN'T WAIT!
This made my tear up -3
Cant wait for it aswell!
This is awesome. I really wish I caught them this tour
That was awesome
right on! best vibes for ya!
Always reminds me of the future
I have to see them live again, when i saw them they were less one member. I want to see them all together, this video is flippin brilliant
The whole crew entire
jam of a lifetime
first time listening to animal collective, and I don't think this seems like the right song to start with. however, despite the weirdness of this music, I think I get it after the first listen. that says something about a band who can instantly convey so much in one listen to such a weird song
or just don't start with C Hz...
Fall 2012 AnCo Tour has lots of US dates.
Just got two tickets for the Dallas show.
I couldn't be more pumped.
World's coolest dad at 11:10 (centerish, orange shirt with white fedora).
man they were so good at merriweather post pavilion back in october 2012, just got tickets to the show in royal oak, MI for march 15th. i cannot wait. i would definitely like to hear a little more strawberry jam though please. ;D
that house t shirt I love
Thanks mate.
i'm definitely going to pitchfork paris to see this live
I was there and it was awesome
my favorite song off CHz at the moment
Looks like a great crowd, not too cool to move and have fun.
=)
Their new album comes out on my birthday weeeeeoooo!
This gives me a big ass smile on my face :D
the bird chirping sample in brothsport
He's back!
i know you guys have a hq version of the we tigers performance. pls give it to us.
Ryan Moorman FUCK yes.
Their new album is gonna be so great
07:13
hell yeah, i'm gonna be there
That shit is amazing.
Would have been nice to hear Noah's vocals :(
I've had a hard time hearing the guitar on this track in almost every live boot and the album. NO IDEA what Deakin is doing. That his master wizardry.
Dude I've been wondering that every time I see Deakin playing guitar.. what is his job?!
@@NoJoshinJoshy vibes
He didn't record with them for Brother Sport on "MPP" so they probably just gave him a simple part to play.
@@CaptainPancakes I meant on monkey riches dawg
He's Deakin' it up is what he's doing.
youre missin out. theyre so massive ugh omg i cant even describe
good conversation
all songs are recorded and finished
plus they released 2 singles
album might have up to 15 songs
probably will come out september
maybe sooner
Going to see them in september =3
Can't wait to see them at merry weather again.
That was happened to me. Panda was way in the back at Bonnaroo with Geologist. I could only see Avey and Deakin.
pandas voice is nonexistent. avey overpowered
You can tell poor Panda is trying to so hard to sing louder than Avey without sounding like shit.
he's got monitors on, he probably cant tell how loud dave is, noah just signs like that, he looks like he's going to burst a blood vessel all the time, its like he's really staining to hit the notes, love the guy and all but he's a poor live singer compared to dave
Panda always seems to be mixed lower and Dave does go crazier, but it almost seems conscious by the band to mix him lower which is a shame
seizure everytime.. the best kind
I was so dissapointed when I didnt't see "knock you down" on the album sleeve. So glad it's on there.
I look upon the sea of humanity that is at that concert and realize they didn't know they would hear something so perfectly original ever again.
The hausu shirt
Panda Bear is the man.
SEPTEMBER 30th im gonna cry
It's from a japanese movie called "Hausu" or "House" that's kind of this bizarre, psychedelic, horror movie, but it's really cool and really fun, and that's what's on the poster/dvd box.
12:20 is the moment. They need to scream more on newer material
I need that house shirt tho
Pitchfork. It would be great if you guys could upload the whole show. Thanks.
Thank you Chuckquizmo.
Beat me to it. Good call.
October 5th 2012 at williamsburgh, NYC
yeah man, i'm getting a bunch of tickets for my friends too, in that neiborhood i'm guessing those tickets are gonna sell fast
Panda's mic was mixed too low! Great show though :D
What is the metal instrument that is on top if Panda Bear's bass drum?
you have strange perception of sound. i like it.
I noticed that the subtle melody in the chorus of Monkey Riches (on the recording) was missing and I was slightly disappointed. Anyone else notice that? Overall this is a great performance tho
+Tom Souden Yeah, I noticed. There's a few missing parts, but all those sounds are hard to reproduce live.
geologist is adorable in that hausu shirt
-hands up-
That Brother Sport mosh pit was something else...oh man.
I want geo's shirt so damn bad. Anyone have an idea of who makes it?
He has a Hausu t-shirt that you could get off of the criterion website for like $20.
Filip Stojanovic Sick, thank you!
I have a feeling they will play two shows, if the first one sells quick, but if there is only one, its because only ANCO fans will be at this show in Brooklyn!
Does anyone know the brand of shirt that Geologist is wearing?
Centipede Hz is the official name. Don't you just love it how names like these beg curiosity?
I WANT THAT HAUSU SHIRT. Anyone know where I can get it?
No, I don't believe they said that, I'm sure they love playing shows, I've seen them live and they were pretty damn fantastic, I'd really really love to see them again.
i'm going to buy one of those lights for my head and wear it around like geologist
