I agree that having Jeremy Jordan voice Varian is one of the biggest (but certainly not the only reason) this character is so popular. Don't get me wrong, I like him even if we had another actor voicing the character. Personally though, I think Varian isn't Varian without Jeremy's amazing, goofy and youthful voice. Not mention his amazing singing chops. 😍🥺
You see I had no idea who Jeremy Jordan was before his role as Varian so me liking Varian is based solely on the strength of his performance of the character. I never saw any of the Broadway productions of he was in or his role as Winn in Super Girl. So I had no prior favorable bias toward Varian based off of who was voicing him. I do agree that Jeremy Jordan IS Varian, he portrays him so well. No one else could ever substitute for Jeremy Jordan as Varian because he just nails the emotional aspects of his character too well. Actually since Jeremy Jordan uses his normal speaking voice when performing Varian it's a trip for me to hear Varian's voice coming out of a live action person. 😆

Totally! The other characters have already been developed. Varian has a very *Disney* character story and he’s the only one with a very clear “I Want” song in “Let Me Make You Proud.” And thank you- Cassandra was *massacred* by these writers.
I read some of the plot threads for the story for the seven kingdoms spin off and I just didn't care for it. Plus, I do not trust Disney to do right by Varian. They clearly don't think much of his character at Disney and dislike how his character took some shine away from a Disney princess. They tolerate him at best but I doubt will allow him to shine on his own in his own series out of fear of his potential popularity eclipsing a Disney princess. Disney's biggest cash cow.
I love Varian I do relate to him. I lost my dad to brain cancer and just like Varian, I lost my mind. I was very angry with everyone and jealous that everyone around me had both parents and I just lost my dad. I was actually just around’s Varian’s age when it happened. But I got help and I’m doing better now. When this series came out and Varian had turned into a villain I was devastated because I knew how it felt to lose a parent. But by the time season 3 rolled around I was so happy he was redeemed and I absolutely loved the song Nothing Left To Lose how Varian was trying to explain to Cass that becoming the villain wouldn’t solve anything using his experience of becoming one himself. I thought that was very well done.
Its 2023 and I still love this character Varian 🙂 and like hearing why he's liked by others, he is so cool, and Jeremy Jordan dose Varian wonderfully, and I'm still looking forward to another series of Varian and his own show

Hmm, NGL, I was kind of bothered by Cassandra saying that to Varian. He "lost his nerve and lost the game?" The fact that she is actively comparing herself to him and putting him below her because he lost to Rapunzel is something else. I wonder if she thinks she "lost the game" when Rapunzel defeated her? The only real difference between Cassandra's defeat at Rapunzel's hand versus Varian's is that Rapunzel left Cassandra alone. Rapunzel showed up to battle Varian with the whole kingdom at her back and an army, and he got taken into custody and thrown into a dungeon at his defeat. Rapunzel came to Cassandra by herself with only their mutual friends because she believed in her humanity and friendship to talk it out with her. And even after Cassandra tried to crush Eugene to death and Rapunzel was forced to fight and defeat her, all Rapunzel did was go home afterward. Cassandra was allowed to remain free because Rapunzel didn't show up at her door with an army. There were no guards to apprehend her because Cassandra was Rapunzel's best friend, so she didn't suffer the full effect of "losing the game" in her defeat. I wonder if that ever occurred to her after she climbed back up the tower and saw Rapunzel went the hell home.
To be honest, I've felt really awkward during his villain ark. And I don't even know why. Like you said, it's well done and his reason is relatable. And both before and after his villain ark is just fine. But yeah, I just can't re-watch most of his villain episodes. Could be that I'm simply not much of a fan of that whole "friends/allies to enemies" trope. For some reason I didn't have that problem with Cassandra though. Maybe because she was so absent during the first half of S3, that I ended up viewing Cassandra and Villain!Cassandra as separate people.

It could have been done so much better with better pacing ,better reasoning and Cassandra actually knowing what she wants instead of constantly fluctuating between being a villain simply going through a phase. Varian's villain arc was definitely much better done. It's just that Cassandra's villain arc doesn't make me as uncomfortable as Varian's. Maybe because it's so badly done.

I have a much easier time watching Cassandra's villain arc in season 3 then I do with Varian's in the second half of season 1. I too have a hard time pin pointing what it is exactly that bugs me so much about Varian's over all villain arc, my feelings on it is pretty complicated. When I finally nail down my feelings on what bothers me about Varian's villain arc I plan to make a video delving deeply into it. But if there is one concrete thing that does bother me about Varian's villain arc versus Cassandra's is the way the characters in the show treat their respective descent into villainy. Simply put Cassandra is treated with mercy and compassion by Rapunzel and everyone and Varian...isn't. Rapunzel and everyone cared for Cassandra and Varian was treated as an enemy to be defeated, imprisoned and forgotten for an entire season. That's one thing that bothers me about Varian's villain arc.
@@Passions5555 Glad that I'm not alone with that feeling. Anyway, since I've written that comment I managed to crystalize two things out of, why I'm not comfortable with his villain arc. 1. He's a child. He's a child who got mistreated and neglected by a bunch of adults. And then he was branded the bad guy when he finally snapped and fought back. Yes he did end up going to far, but he was already treated like an irredeemable monster before he has done anything really bad. That whole situation should have never happened in the first place. And it most likely wouldn't have, if any of the adults had actually acted like adults. 2. The lead up to his villain arc was a mess. Just look at "Quest for Varian". Rapunzel's dream is clearly depicting him as the villain already (he hasn't done anything at that point). Eugene is constantly suspicious of Varian and warns the others how "dangerous" that boy is. And when they get attacked by the disguised guard, Cassandra is immediately assuming that Varian is working with that guy. And not in a sarcastic "Hey look that's the guy the kid warned us about. Must be one of his *Friends*". So, instead of being worried for the well being and safety of a child, that at least two of them have claimed to be "friends" with, they simply assume that Varian is already against them. At that point they had no reason to believe that he is anything but loyal to them. In other words, the show runners were so desperate to fast track Varian into becoming a villain, that they made everyone look like a**holes by vilifying a still innocent child. So yeah, that are the two reasons I managed to find. There are probably more reasons that I haven't figured out yet. But I hope that my rambling helps you a bit in figuring yours out.
oh finally someone spoke the truth! when i watched the show i was like "sooo...when this character get his damned development!" basically only varian get it and i don't get why, in the movie i really liked eugene ch dev and i loved to see some dev of lance or even eugene and their relationship, i was so pissed about it xd
0:47 rapunzel. 1:11 Lance doesn't need to change anything, Eugene does however 1:27 Varian is perfection. 2:34 Yeah i was on his side and hated everyone else, except the queen and Lance. They deserved everything that he did to them (except the attempted murder part). And for the thumbnail, he's not just the best character in the series, he's the best in general for me.
Varian one of the young character a show has in alot of shows they write kid character in the most awful way but varian is the best character of this show and we all now it I didn't like Rapunzel in the show Cassandra was an amazing character but like you said in the third season they just kind of I don't know if something happened behind the scenes but it's like they didn't know what to do with her and there was so much potential there that could have built her character up and rapunzels like in season 3 varian still had amazing moments so what happened with those two cuz it was weird
@@tyathedude I still like and adore all the characters in season 3 and in spite of it being widely thought as being the worst season I largely liked it because...well, Varian is back. And not just back but also sane again, and a friend and ally to Rapunzel and the main cast instead of continuing to be a thorn in their side to be tossed back in jail. I adore his character so much that him being part of the gang just vibing along with their energy made me happy to see. Also I can see why some characters can be seen as unlikable in season 3 but I still loved Rapunzel, and Eugene, Red and Angry. Lance...I love the guy, but they kicked his dumb assery all the way up to 11 in season 3. My man Lance deserved better characterization. And King Edmund of the dark kingdom was disappointing in season 3. He seemed so mysterious and cool while having a lighted hearted quirkiness about him in his introduction in season 2 with the brotherhood. By the time he reappears in season 3, he's both neutered and nerfed. 😧 Jeez, they dropped the ball on him 😑 and the brotherhood by extension. I am not even going to get into Queen Arianna and King Frederick and assassinations of their characters. 😖
It would also be great if Disney made a Varian and the seven kingdoms spin off, to a Cassandra spin off, to finally back to Rapunzel and Eugene with everyone else back together again
I'm still Angry with Disney for cancelling Vat7k. Why would Disney cancel it!? Plus we could've gotten some Varigo moments which would've been so adorable!! I'd sell my soul just to see the spin-off!! Disney was a villain for doing such a thing. How can you reject the most adorable character just because he was a "Side character" he's more than a side character! >:( Don't be shy Disney. Give us the spin-off :)

What's almost as sad as Rapunzel not helping Varian is the fact that if she had helped him, it wouldn't have worked and the kingdom would've been destroyed.

Rapunzel’s “I need to protect my kingdom” is so incredibly stupid. She can’t send ONE person to help a child in need of emotional support? They didn’t have to save his father, they just had to help a child in grief. And. Then, instead of talking to him, she has a dream of him and then she’s like “I feel like varian’s not happy”. No shit Sherlock. She doesn’t talk to Varian for like 3 episodes after dooming him to emotional trauma, god I hope she’s not a parent in the future. Varian’s off having a totally normal reaction to Rapunzel’s actions, while Rapunzel’s in her castle stressing that Varian is mad with it discussing with Varian, or even reaching out to him. Even in “the quest for Varian” she doesn’t actively interact with him or do anything, she doesn’t seek him out to make up for what’s wrong, she does nothing. And then seems victimizing herself acting like Varian became evil out of nowhere. Now Varian of course does not have an excuse for his account of Attempted regicide Treason Kidnapping Ransom Endangerment Assault Battery Etc. But he does have a normal reaction to feeling so betrayed, betrayed by Rapunzel, betrayed by Carona. A child like himself does not know how to deal with grief and feelings of betrayal, Rapunzel the “Compassionate” one who’s “good with kids” should know this, even if Varian is 14.
It always made me so mad that she wouldn’t help him then she allowed the guards to drag him out of the palace THEN SHE DIDNT EVEN GO CHECK ON HIM AFTERWARD SHE DIDNT HAVE TO “protect her kingdom” ANYMORE. Even though what he did isn’t excusable it’s definitely understandable and honestly not really that bad compared to cass (who didnt even go to jail for what she did💀)

Jeremy Jordan is the reason why I got into the show! I AM A HUGEEEEE FAN OF HIM AND I KNEW THAT IS A REASON WHY VARIAN IS SO POPULAR CUZ JEREMY JORDAN IS SO AMAZING AND SINGS LIKE AN ANGEL
First, Disney made the WORST DECISION EVER by NOT having Varian have his own series. They could have made the best series ever but noOoO! “He’s too tied with Rapunzel, she needs to be included too”, THEN MAKE HIM A WHOLE SEPARATE CHARACTER. HE DOES NOT NEED RAPUNZEL. Second, for 4:18 , fair enough. HOWEVER, I do think it should be mentioned how episodes before he makes the gun, he has his trauma laid in front of him, thanks to Cassandra’s anxiety induced rocks, where the amber was the only solution to help Corona. And he succeeded. That probably helped him gain more confidence and less fear to make an amber-trap gun. Timeline wise, it does make sense. (Just thought I should mention).
I think if there are definitely at least four things thia fandom agrees on it is, Varian is the baby and everyone loves him whether hes they're absolute favorite or not (he is for me) Everyone loves Cassandra whether a crush or just think shes super cool, Jeremy Jordan is a great VA and the only one who could've voice English Varian and the last one for all the cheese Vat7K should have been made and we're Mad at Disney for not making it real (and probably other reasons depending on who you are *cough* TOH *cough*) *plays the song Mad at Disney*
Varian is amazing, he really is. That's true. But there is something I have to say about how you talk about Rapunzel and what she did in the snowstorm... Everybody should try to see what _she_ was going through, what she _has_ been through. Rapunzel didn't do anything because of how overwhelmed she was. It was not the right thing to do, but if you were in her situation, what would _you_ do? No, really, what _would_ you do? Go with him? What if you did, couldn't do anything, wasted time and somebody got seriously hurt or even died from the temperatures? Don't get me wrong, but Rapunzel isn't as bad as I see so many Varian fans say she is. She was trapped in a tower and bullied by the person she thought was her mother for eighteen years, who kidnapped her at birth, and throughout all of that, she is a nice, happy, good person. It's a literal miracle that she isn't rude or mean. It's amazing! She is in no way perfect in the first season, but that is no reason to hate her. And, there is also no reason to hate Nigel, either, for those who do, he was giving _advice,_ his *job*. What was not okay was going against Rapunzel's word in Season 3, but in Queen For A Day, Rapunzel had no orders. So he had to take things into his own hands. Of course, he isn't perfect either, he exaggerated things and does, but the king knows this and knows how to deal with him. He knows how to listen to Nigel. Rapunzel should not have done nothing in the storm, but don't hate her, or hold a grudge. Varian himself doesn't. She even apologized, and she has learned from her mistakes. What a better thing to say is that you hate how she didn't do anything, or you hate what she did. I let my love for Varian blind me for a while, too. But Rapunzel... She isn't a bad person. And, not to be rude, I love Varian, but he could've acted smarter too. There was no danger with Rapunzel and he totally overreacted. He could've tried to reason with himself and go through his memories to realize that Rapunzel didn't do him any wrong, she didn't do anything. He isn't wrong to be mad at her for that, but he should've gone back and checked to see if everything was good. But I understand how he might not have felt like he _could_ just go and see if everything was okay with the princess. After all, he never felt like he was anything very special or important to talk to Royals casually as friends. The mistake is split in mainly three or four ways. Rapunzel, for not doing anything or telling him to "Wait here" or anything like that and letting him get thrown out by the guards. Varian for not handling the situation well. And Quirin for keeping his secret longer than he should've. I get why he didn't want to tell Varian about the Brotherhood and Dark Kingdom, but look at what happened because he didn't. It wasn't like when there is *no way* that Rapunzel could've known that Cassandra has a problem with the word "Wait". And then for a fourth, I dunno, Nigel. For A fifth, Zhan Tiri. Anyways, I don't mean to be rude, but none of us should keep a grudge against Rapunzel like that, I don't think it's fair. And this is just my explanation of why you shouldn't hate her, it's not perfect. Have a good day now. :)
Rapunzel and Cassandra are both my favorites! Varian and Cassandra got married and have 2 girls and a baby on its was! The girls names were Dawn(7years old) Dawn was born on September 21, 2014 and Punzie(3 years old) punzie was born on October 12, 2018. Then Cassandra and varian having another baby girl next month on christmas eve(December 24, 2021. And that baby name is Sally. Cassandra, varian, and their kids are one big happy family! And their last names are Calanis
Anna Lencioni and Kaitlyn Ritter also deserve the story for Varian and the seven kingdoms, the have such good ideas, a great story, they would be proud of 🙂
Honestly him and Cas shouldn’t have been villains. Both were so likable before turning “evil”. He always plays victim for things he started, even when his dad told him to stop he never did and always got others in harms way. MY OPINION!!

It could have been done so much better with better pacing ,better reasoning and Cassandra actually knowing what she wants instead of constantly fluctuating between being a villain simply going through a phase. Varian's villain arc was definitely much better done. It's just that Cassandra's villain arc doesn't make me as uncomfortable as Varian's. Maybe because it's so badly done.
@@Tatokat Varian's villain arc makes me feel uncomfortable too, I also have a tough time watching the episodes that show case his villain arc as well. I have a much easier time watching Cassandra's villain arc in season 3 then I do with Varian's in the second half of season 1. I too have a hard time pin pointing what it is exactly that bugs me so much about Varian's over all villain arc, my feelings on it is pretty complicated. When I finally nail down my feelings on what bothers me about Varian's villain arc I plan to make a video delving deeply into it.
But if there is one concrete thing that does bother me about Varian's villain arc versus Cassandra's is the way the characters in the show treat their respective descent into villainy. Simply put Cassandra is treated with mercy and compassion by Rapunzel and everyone and Varian...isn't. Rapunzel and everyone cared for Cassandra and Varian was treated as an enemy to be defeated, imprisoned and forgotten for an entire season. That's one thing that bothers me about Varian's villain arc.

Anyway, since I've written that comment I managed to crystalize two things out of, why I'm not comfortable with his villain arc.
1. He's a child. He's a child who got mistreated and neglected by a bunch of adults.
And then he was branded the bad guy when he finally snapped and fought back. Yes he did end up going to far, but he was already treated like an irredeemable monster before he has done anything really bad.
That whole situation should have never happened in the first place. And it most likely wouldn't have, if any of the adults had actually acted like adults.
2. The lead up to his villain arc was a mess. Just look at "Quest for Varian".
Rapunzel's dream is clearly depicting him as the villain already (he hasn't done anything at that point).
Eugene is constantly suspicious of Varian and warns the others how "dangerous" that boy is.
And when they get attacked by the disguised guard, Cassandra is immediately assuming that Varian is working with that guy. And not in a sarcastic "Hey look that's the guy the kid warned us about. Must be one of his *Friends*".
So, instead of being worried for the well being and safety of a child, that at least two of them have claimed to be "friends" with, they simply assume that Varian is already against them.
At that point they had no reason to believe that he is anything but loyal to them.
In other words, the show runners were so desperate to fast track Varian into becoming a villain, that they made everyone look like a**holes by vilifying a still innocent child.
So yeah, that are the two reasons I managed to find. There are probably more reasons that I haven't figured out yet. But I hope that my rambling helps you a bit in figuring yours out.
I love Varian's villain arc, and Cassandra's was enjoyable to watch, but personally, I think Cassandra should've had a better reason.

Varian one of the young character a show has in alot of shows they write kid character in the most awful way but varian is the best character of this show and we all now it I didn't like Rapunzel in the show Cassandra was an amazing character but like you said in the third season they just kind of I don't know if something happened behind the scenes but it's like they didn't know what to do with her and there was so much potential there that could have built her character up and rapunzels like in season 3 varian still had amazing moments so what happened with those two cuz it was weird

@@tyathedude I still like and adore all the characters in season 3 and in spite of it being widely thought as being the worst season I largely liked it because...well, Varian is back. And not just back but also sane again, and a friend and ally to Rapunzel and the main cast instead of continuing to be a thorn in their side to be tossed back in jail. I adore his character so much that him being part of the gang just vibing along with their energy made me happy to see. Also I can see why some characters can be seen as unlikable in season 3 but I still loved Rapunzel, and Eugene, Red and Angry. Lance...I love the guy, but they kicked his dumb assery all the way up to 11 in season 3. My man Lance deserved better characterization.
And King Edmund of the dark kingdom was disappointing in season 3. He seemed so mysterious and cool while having a lighted hearted quirkiness about him in his introduction in season 2 with the brotherhood. By the time he reappears in season 3, he's both neutered and nerfed. 😧 Jeez, they dropped the ball on him 😑 and the brotherhood by extension. I am not even going to get into Queen Arianna and King Frederick and assassinations of their characters. 😖

“I need to protect my kingdom” is so incredibly stupid.
She can’t send ONE person to help a child in need of emotional support? They didn’t have to save his father, they just had to help a child in grief.
And. Then, instead of talking to him, she has a dream of him and then she’s like
“I feel like varian’s not happy”.

She doesn’t talk to Varian for like 3 episodes after dooming him to emotional trauma, god I hope she’s not a parent in the future. Varian’s off having a totally normal reaction to Rapunzel’s actions, while Rapunzel’s in her castle stressing that Varian is mad with it discussing with Varian, or even reaching out to him. Even in “the quest for Varian” she doesn’t actively interact with him or do anything, she doesn’t seek him out to make up for what’s wrong, she does nothing. And then seems victimizing herself acting like Varian became evil out of nowhere.
Now Varian of course does not have an excuse for his account of

Treason
Kidnapping
Ransom
Endangerment
Assault
Battery
Etc.
But he does have a normal reaction to feeling so betrayed, betrayed by Rapunzel, betrayed by Carona. A child like himself does not know how to deal with grief and feelings of betrayal, Rapunzel the “Compassionate” one who’s “good with kids” should know this, even if Varian is 14.
It always made me so mad that she wouldn’t help him then she allowed the guards to drag him out of the palace THEN SHE DIDNT EVEN GO CHECK ON HIM AFTERWARD SHE DIDNT HAVE TO “protect her kingdom” ANYMORE.
Even though what he did isn’t excusable it’s definitely understandable and honestly not really that bad compared to cass (who didnt even go to jail for what she did💀)

First, Disney made the WORST DECISION EVER by NOT having Varian have his own series. They could have made the best series ever but noOoO! “He’s too tied with Rapunzel, she needs to be included too”, THEN MAKE HIM A WHOLE SEPARATE CHARACTER. HE DOES NOT NEED RAPUNZEL.
Second, for 4:18 , fair enough. HOWEVER, I do think it should be mentioned how episodes before he makes the gun, he has his trauma laid in front of him, thanks to Cassandra’s anxiety induced rocks, where the amber was the only solution to help Corona. And he succeeded. That probably helped him gain more confidence and less fear to make an amber-trap gun. Timeline wise, it does make sense. (Just thought I should mention).
I think if there are definitely at least four things thia fandom agrees on it is, Varian is the baby and everyone loves him whether hes they're absolute favorite or not (he is for me) Everyone loves Cassandra whether a crush or just think shes super cool, Jeremy Jordan is a great VA and the only one who could've voice English Varian and the last one for all the cheese Vat7K should have been made and we're Mad at Disney for not making it real (and probably other reasons depending on who you are *cough* TOH *cough*) *plays the song Mad at Disney*

But there is something I have to say about how you talk about Rapunzel and what she did in the snowstorm...
Everybody should try to see what _she_ was going through, what she _has_ been through.
Rapunzel didn't do anything because of how overwhelmed she was. It was not the right thing to do, but if you were in her situation, what would _you_ do? No, really, what _would_ you do? Go with him? What if you did, couldn't do anything, wasted time and somebody got seriously hurt or even died from the temperatures?
Don't get me wrong, but Rapunzel isn't as bad as I see so many Varian fans say she is.
She was trapped in a tower and bullied by the person she thought was her mother for eighteen years, who kidnapped her at birth, and throughout all of that, she is a nice, happy, good person. It's a literal miracle that she isn't rude or mean. It's amazing! She is in no way perfect in the first season, but that is no reason to hate her. And, there is also no reason to hate Nigel, either, for those who do, he was giving _advice,_ his *job*. What was not okay was going against Rapunzel's word in Season 3, but in Queen For A Day, Rapunzel had no orders. So he had to take things into his own hands. Of course, he isn't perfect either, he exaggerated things and does, but the king knows this and knows how to deal with him. He knows how to listen to Nigel.
Rapunzel should not have done nothing in the storm, but don't hate her, or hold a grudge. Varian himself doesn't. She even apologized, and she has learned from her mistakes. What a better thing to say is that you hate how she didn't do anything, or you hate what she did.
I let my love for Varian blind me for a while, too. But Rapunzel... She isn't a bad person.
And, not to be rude, I love Varian, but he could've acted smarter too. There was no danger with Rapunzel and he totally overreacted. He could've tried to reason with himself and go through his memories to realize that Rapunzel didn't do him any wrong, she didn't do anything. He isn't wrong to be mad at her for that, but he should've gone back and checked to see if everything was good. But I understand how he might not have felt like he _could_ just go and see if everything was okay with the princess. After all, he never felt like he was anything very special or important to talk to Royals casually as friends. The mistake is split in mainly three or four ways. Rapunzel, for not doing anything or telling him to "Wait here" or anything like that and letting him get thrown out by the guards. Varian for not handling the situation well. And Quirin for keeping his secret longer than he should've. I get why he didn't want to tell Varian about the Brotherhood and Dark Kingdom, but look at what happened because he didn't. It wasn't like when there is *no way* that Rapunzel could've known that Cassandra has a problem with the word "Wait".
And then for a fourth, I dunno, Nigel.
For A fifth, Zhan Tiri.
Anyways, I don't mean to be rude, but none of us should keep a grudge against Rapunzel like that, I don't think it's fair. And this is just my explanation of why you shouldn't hate her, it's not perfect. Have a good day now. :)

Rapunzel and Cassandra are both my favorites! Varian and Cassandra got married and have 2 girls and a baby on its was! The girls names were Dawn(7years old) Dawn was born on September 21, 2014 and Punzie(3 years old) punzie was born on October 12, 2018. Then Cassandra and varian having another baby girl next month on christmas eve(December 24, 2021. And that baby name is Sally. Cassandra, varian, and their kids are one big happy family! And their last names are Calanis
