I’ve been passing along my Rolex collection to my son, one watch at a time. This Christmas I’m giving him my Batman. For me, there is something special about having the opportunity see him enjoy the watch before I die. I’d like to pass along my enthusiasm for watches to him. One day he’ll have them all.
In a “throw away” world the possession of a personal item that can: be with you on your person 24/7, associates with life events (good and bad), has an inherent beauty and artistry, and can outlive you is truly unique and special. Nothing else ticks all those boxes. It is mechanical art that appeals to the hopeless romantic.
This is exactly why I got into watches too. Gotta wear them every day so ot becomes the childhood memories of your kids, and when it's time to pass them on, they're way more than just expensive jewelry.
Great video and as usual you found your client a very nice example. I have some nice19th century paperweights. Looked after they could last a very long time indeed, but agree there is something extra special about a high end watch.
I would love to pass on a very nice watch to my kids. But who am I fooling they are always going to remember me by the Seiko 5 I’ve had for decades that looses 5 minutes a day. “Dad always started his day by resetting his watch”
Guys are so annoying when they talk about the watch they were wearing when their kid was born. Never the shoes they had on or the keys in their pocket. All this watch shit is cosplay.
@@brockadcock2735 lol I also thought about that too... but a watch will be lasting (ones that you want to fix). I wore my dad's watch (a Luminox quartz) when my kids were born, still works. Will it 40 years from now? Would a Rolex... sure as long as it doesn't grind to a hault if you don't service it for $1000 a pop.
Austin, would you consider buying the Millgauss blue dial? Can I get the tax back in Tokyo when buying Rolex secondary? It is great to see you back with new videos 📹 💛 from London J.
Is it me or is that a service dial? It appears to have a modern looking thin frame font on hour markers. I know those dials were released in 2009ish on the 3186 movement. Curious if that’s the case @watch symposium
No, that's a period correct dial. The thin frame dial is different (and indeed on some late 3186 movement Ex.2s). But stay tuned, because I have a video coming up with one in it.
Great episode and your comments about passing on your Rolex to your daughter are so very poignant. I have two sons, and each one will be inheriting a Rolex from their dad. I hope that after I am gone, they wear their gifts often and think of me. Happy Holidays!
I think the fad with luxery watches is finished. I could careless about Rolex or anyother watches. There are more important things than watches that no one noticeses.

1:04 Neo vintage Austin
definitely a 5 digit Austin, unpolished.
That look screams 2-line Austin 🌨️❄️... 80s polar explorer alright ☃️☃️☃️😂

This watch but with holes is the way to go! Nice pick up
14060 tritium was my first Rolex (bought it in 1991), and biggest regret in selling.

Austin, you NEED to bring back that vintage hairstyle!
I really do! If only it didn't take so long...
I second this opinion.
What a nice thing you do for people , love you brother x
That was a quick pickup - right to being on the wrist!

Grats to you and your Customer.
Hey man, that Orient won't be eternal, but 40 years from now, it'll still be ticking, unserviced, yet ticking.

Good stuff, Aus
Thank you, Omar!

That’s awesome. I can’t wait!
I sold my Rolex Oyster Perpetual white dial in 39 mm and i'm gonna sell my Explorer I 39 mm as well. I'm into Omega Tudor IWC and Seiko.
I'm always interested in what makes someone passionate about a brand. I assume those other brands resonate with you more. Is that the case?

Thank you Danny - Happy Holidays to you too!
I would add fountain pens as another personal item that will last a long time and can be passed on to children.
For now it is eternal as it’s a “luxury”watch and no longer a tool watch..😂
Close to home as I recently got a polar 16570, Y serial, holes case (later one weren't) - loving it!
