i absolutely love that there is not one dislike on this video... only people who want to watch what were watching are here and i think that's fantastic.
You Sir are an inspiration to young people who want to ge into watch making, as was George Daniels to you.I had six wonderful holidays on the I.O.Man. Carry on you fabulous work. From Widnes.Lancs.
Great film. Reminds of the very first 'Talking Watches' I saw with William Massena. He said something along the lines of ' the little guy doesn't want to sell you lots of watches, they want to make a better watch.' How true. Ps. There are a few other Roger Smith videos on you tube on how he makes cases and dials. Painstakingly slow, but immaculate in every detail.
Thank you Hodinkee for showing us Mr Smith, for more info on George Daniels and the rise of Mr Smith. Utube Watchmakers Apprentice.its about an hour long. Enjoy
Fantastic. His watches really speak to me. Unfortunately, part of what they're saying is, "you can never afford me". I love his philosophy and the fact that he quietly thumbs his nose at the other "great" watchmakers.
At last, something from Hodinkee that is not about Patek's or Daytona's or multimillionaire celebrities with their crass watch collections. It still won't bring me back to your website but these I will watch with interest. For me, you are irrelevant now to everyday watch collectors. Serious collectors as far as Hodinkee are concerned are not serious unless they have a couple of Patek's and Daytona's in the collection, what utter snob tosh!
Different watches for different people. There's a huge spectrum of quality in regard to horology which unfortunately, as watches are material is dictated by money. Certain people appreciate the diminishing return of investing more into their collections to get really special pieces, that doesn't make us snobs.
Andi Valentinus Haha! Yes, seems like a plain but trusty workhorse compared to his own and George Daniel’s watches. However R Smith is definitely a Rolex fan. He thinks they are honest and extremely well built watches.
Living on an island and living your passion. Just wow
Admirable craftsmanship.
Thoroughly enjoyed that. Much respect to these brilliant craftsmen. There's a bit of Breguet in some of those gorgeous dials.

How that subtle classic Explorer 114270 sits stylish on his wrist !

Mesmerising to watch the human need to create expressed at such a level.

Now that's a dream come true...
It's that drive and motivation to create and build that's missing in today's industry and leading this country in the wrong direction.
His watches are beautifully made
My base is 10 minutes from Stonehenge, would of liked to of met the hodinkee crew in person
Is that a Rolex he is wearing @ 6:17?
All in his house.
Real greatest watchmaker.

For a second there I thought the guy in the thumbnail was snorting coke.
Favorite English brand is Christopher Ward.

Rule Britannia!
Oh the irony of him wearing an explorer!
:')
Well without daniels omega would be FOOKED!!
independent watchmaker wears a rolex 😂
Andi Valentinus i doubt he would go to work with £250k on his wrist

The isle of man is..... a tax haven... lovely sundials.
That's not a Rolex its a real watch a Seiko
Seiko doesnt have mercedes-style hour hands so no, its an Explorer
Watch the new Talking Watches with him and he talks about his explorer and why he wears it over one of his own. Very interesting.
More watch talk, Kevin Hart would be a great guest.
