  • Today I'm teaching you how to bottle & can your home-brew from a keg! This works for 1 gallon kegs and everything larger. It does require some equipment (and you can find some links below). Let me know what you think and thanks for watching!

This is amazing! Upon receiving the canned brew, I was absolutely dumbfounded. Pondering, "did he do this himself?" or "does it get sent off somewhere to be canned?" I am so thankful that you directed me here! I am not ready to start canning just yet, but happy to know how it's done, as well as the equipment needed. As always, endless thank yous! When I get to canning time, your links, as always, will be my guide.

I dropped you guys a a message, probably on old posts. I'm a beekeeper and watched you all to learn the craft. The blackberry and blueberry has been a huge hit! BUT I've never seen any of " you guys" talk about honey. 80%+ of honey sold in the US is adulterated with rice and corn syrup. Chinese rice syrup is 80 cents a pound in LA, how do you think a beekeeper can live? Anyone can print a label, and there's no such thing as organic honey. Honey flavoring should also be suspect. Honey itself changes flavor and color drastically over time. Drop me a message and I'll hit you up with links or conversation. My favorite honey is coming in right now - Knotweed ;)

Well since honey has no expiration, evaporation can cause it to lose water weight and get thicker in flavor, too.

Honey doesn't evaporate, it's hydroscopic. It actually takes on water if exposed and when it gets over 20% it will ferment.@@obsessive8332

Nice of you to show the options. Haven't shopped around that much but I was considering the Blichmann Beer Gun and full retail is in the "empty your wallet" range of $110, not including accessories kit. Right now, the super cheap-skate way I do it is to shove my bottle filler tube (with valve head removed) into the picnic tap nozzle (it fits quite snuggly) and fill from the bottom. Releasing most of the head pressure off the keg helps reduce foaming. Results very, depending on the alignment of the moon and stars. Cheerz.

Great job. The TapCooler version by KegLand, called Nukatap counter pressure bottle filler, is about $20 less at about $59 at Williams Brewing regularly. I had the last straw, and beyond looking like a laser gun out of a sci-fi movie, I hated it as it wasn't a counter-pressure bottle filler, which, sadly, I paid about $100 back in the day and eventually gave away for free. A great option for something on the cheap to bottle directly from the keg and not a tap is the common counter pressure bottle fillers for $40 to $100. (The cheap ones do a great job, but there are lots of hoses like the last straw.)
I haven't gotten into canning due to both the price and the lack of wanting to store empty cans, plus about $0.50 per can and knowing my bottles are usually free (after I drink the beer I paid for.) 🙂

If you need bottles I have a good live hack: Put a bit box right next to a bottle recycling container with a nice sign „Please wine bottles here I need them for my Homebrewed Mead and Wine and will refill them“ Then you just need to cl an them.

I am in the process of making my first mead ever. I used 3 lbs of honey and filled up a one gallon carboy to the top of the curve of the bottle just under the one gallon writing. I then pitched 2 grams of red star premier cote des blancs. I never took a OG reading as I didn't have a hydrometer yet. (However, I have one now.) I started the mead on 8/18/23.
There are still bubbles coming up the side from the lesa. Does that mean it is still fermenting?
    Any help is appreciated.

It is either still fermenting or degassing! The easiest way to know is by taking a gravity reading. More than likely your number is going to read 1.000. If it is, it's done fermenting! If you get a different number, just wait a week or so and do another gravity reading. If that number is the same it is done fermenting.

@ManMadeMead OK, thank you. I will let it sit a week and take a reading just to make sure. Then wait another week, take a reading, and let you know.

When I still had the keezer I made, I had huge annoyance with the amount of condensation that collected. You run across the same thing?

    • @ManMadeMead
      @ManMadeMead  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I’ve definitely had a fair amount of condensation in mine!

This is decently off topic, just asking as this is your latest video, i started a 4.5gallon tub of hard cider with 10G of Lalvin EC1118, AG was at 1.10, it began fermenting within the first day or so but the airlock stopped bubbling by around tuesday 3 days after, i ignored it thinking I either was missing or it was slowly going still as i have heard, but it still wasn't working by the time it hit day 4, i chose to sanitize up and get a reading just to see if there was any progress, but when i got into my tub, the AG was at 1.00 exactly, all the sugar has been converted to alcohal at this point and was confused/nunplussed that it had finished within 4 days? is this normal or just it can happen? i replaced the lid and put the airlock back in as i don't have the equipment to rack it, just wanted to see if anyone or maybe even you yourself have had this occur, i did not taste it as i wasn't prepared to do that yet, probalby won't have time till friday at hte earliest to get into at all.

    • @ManMadeMead

That can definitely happen with a fast fermentation! I've had that many times. It's not a bad thing for your yeast to eat all the sugars super quick!

@ManMadeMead thanks for a quick reply, was a little concerned as I just picked this up as a hobby, I got my wisdom teeth pulled 2 weeks ago and in my drug induced hysteria, i kept getting distracted by youtube. Thus on one of those days I ended up watching almost 5hrs of mead making videos. The drugs told me to pick it up then a couple days after they wore off I gave it a serious thought. So here I am, will let you know how it turned out as well as my first batch of mead when it starts whinging down.
