Kumbaga ang mga politiko walang pake sa ideology, lilipat sila ng partido kung saan malakas (example: Manny Pacquiao). Kaya nga mas maganda siguro magshift na into parliamentary system para matigil na ang personality politics dito sa pinas. Ideology at plataporma ng partido na ang ipaglalaban, and hindi na ang sariling pangalan.

Fascinating, I often hear this talk about the “Republican party” or the “Democrat party” of the US throughout the internet, but it’s mind boggling how the average Filipino doesn’t even know today’s presidential candidates’ party, let alone the ones in the past
At least the political party in the US has a difference in their beliefs on how to run the government. The political parties in the PH is more a fraternity or club of politicians grouping together for influence. Most parties hardly stand for specific ideologies or concepts of governance. As long as people vote for who can do the budots dance the best, our country will just be one big circus where no one is laughing.

@@boaoftheboaians yeah, I have a hunch that the Republican party will break up into moderates and extreme/alt-rights/trumpists, while the Democrats are still able to keep the socialists at bay, they will most likely fracture to their create a more left leaning party. In the PH, talking points are usually center-left on socialistic assistance during campaign, but start doing a mix of left and right leaning policies when they get into office.

@@joshmirr7366 Not really underdog (actually competent lahat ng kandidato noong 1992, sina FVR, Mitra, Jovy, Danding, Imelda, and Doy Laurel), magaling lang mag-propaganda si FVR, he was able to portray himself as a "Tabako democratic strongman" that will restore stability and economic growth, also few days before election day, nag-launch sila demonizing campaign na si MDS, Brenda daw siya (Brenda as in "brain damage") kaya ayun, maraming bumoto kay FVR kasi baka yung next president (MDS), may saltik sa utak (and yep, ito yung sinabi ng friend ng mama ko na lawyer during election day itself, tandang tanda pa nila yung conversation nila and yep, both solid Ramos sila that time). FVR also had Cory's backing and mabango pa noon mga Aquino at mga Dilawan.
I don't know if nandaya si FVR noon through blackouts and dagdag-bawas considering may kapit siya sa gobyerno (Cory) at COMELEC (Monsod) pero the rest is history nalang talaga hehehe.

@@a.c6761 nah, Colmenares was never part of LP. Makabayan Bloc siya under. You might be referring to Risa Hontiveros na under ng Akbayan which is a moderate left party by which forged an alliance with Liberal Party during 2007 or 2010 I think.
Makabayan Bloc nga lang talaga ang alam kong legit na left-wing at talagang nasunod pa ang principles nila until now as we can see sa mga batas na pinapanukala nila. Akbayan Party (partido ni Risa Hontiveros) is also a left-wing but moderate lang. The rest, parang mga fraternity at clubs lang.

You see, Quezon died in 1944, the Japanese puppet Second Republic (which coincided with Laurel's term) ended in 1945, from 1945-1946 (though his term really started when Quezon died in 1944) he was the president of the Philippines then here comes the 1946 election in which Osmeña ran but lost to Manuel Roxas. Roxas was the last Commonwealth president from May until the Yankees gave us our independence by June (start of the Third Republic).
