    That haunting music is making the cat want a drink and to get down real low. Just what that good ole country did. Beautiful playing man. I wish that pedal steel appeared in rock more than it did. You only saw it back in the classic years some. The new stuff today, it wouldn't happen because the pigeon holing of styles is too real. Players like you with that good feel and the skill to back it up is what makes music great. A great steel player can make you hug a woman close and dance with all of the love in your heart and then stare through the bottom of a glass like she just left you. That's what they can make you feel.

    My cat Snuggie would run in whenever I started to play slide. He would roll around at my feet, he loved blues. RIP Snuggie , your video reminded me of him.

    That sounded great. I've never understood why the steel guitar isn't used in other genres of music, it sounds awesome & has infinite sonic possibilities with various effects & MIDI programming. Thank you for the video. 🤟

      For many people, it's simply too hard to get beyond three or four types of chord, so we don't hear it in genres that are more difficult or challenging than country music. Having tried to learn pedal steel, that's my experience, anyway.

    • @JoeKyser
      @JoeKyser 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What genre of music are you thinking it would fit in with? Counry and blues seemed to be able to grasp the style of the deep vibrato sound and use it but I understand why other genres dont use it. It just doesnt fit. Its a specific sound. I know a studio that specializes in background and sound effects. They use it in their productions for that. Its a tough fit as far as music goes.

      @@JoeKyser Yes, in addition to being difficult to get beyond basic tunes (in my case), the instrument really does lend itself to country music.

    (Sorry for the VERY long "comment". But I believe it NEEDS to be said)
    When Bud Isaacs and his PSG; was the player for Web Pierce; on his classic "Slowly" famous song. And the Hawaiian Guitar (as they called then): ENDED using Steel Guitar music for the most part. Whereas before; Even Big Bands often had SG players.
    And even popular Singers like Bing Crosby and others; used the SG from time to time. And Jerry Byrd, the worlds greatest Lapsteel in the world; was their SG player. And there was NO country sound coming out. It was beautiful Popular music.
    So the Hawaiian SG fit with many genre' of music kinds. But Sadly, The Pedal Steel Guitar's incredibly beautiful sound; was not accepted by popular musicians; and most of the Rock bands wanted NO part of the PSG. So the PSG was instantly put in a narrow "niche" where they could "Shine" to this day! And that is Country Music. Sad.
    But interestingly, Chet Atkins asked Floyd Cramer (famous piano player for yrs) to copy the PSG's "Moving Tone" sound on his piano. And He did it. And it set the fire all over the world. But they (not liking the PSG) changed the name to "the Bent Tone". Which caught up with musicians all over the world; wanting that sound. But NOT from the PSG who invented it.
    The reason is, (an those non SG players will never own up to this) they were jealous of an incredibly beautiful sound in History; that NO other instrument could match! Even while they tried to do it. So, they to this day, MOST shun the PSG. Sad, but OH so True. So it is locked up mostly, to only the Country genre'.
    But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. For there is a SG that uses "moving tones". But NOT with pedals or knee levers. Rather: they use benders on the top of the SG. And they use them with their right hand palm. Believe it or not. And more and more Rock players ARE now using it.
    And I do believe; that once this goes around the world; will USE the Pedal Steel Guitar. AMEN!
    If you have not seen and heard the "Bender SG's". I have pasted two links; of the 2 greatest Bender SG players so far. As I can tell. I "country boy"; for 90 yrs, loves their music. Now it AINT Country atoll! So don't be surprised. But to me it is awesome.

    Looks like you are really uncomfortable with those picks, continually pushing them back on your fingers. And they are dead straight. Most players I see have them curved. I spent weeks getting the fit right with mine. Sounds wonderful though!
