The pigs are off to the butcher soon, and I'm not sad to see them go. Fixing the wiring on a livestock trailer, adding nesting boxes for the chickens, and talking about pigs.
While you are waiting for your day to go to the processor back that trailer up to their pen and start feeding them inside. That's what I do with mine when I gotta put them in a trailer. No drama no struggle just offer food and clise the door!
Just one bad day. Those pigs are gonna taste great! I'm so jealous. Love all your videos. Please show us some of those chops after your wife cooks them up. I just ate pork chops and I'm hungry hearing you talk about those delicious fat pigs!
You have plenty of nesting boxes. They will usually all pick 2 or 3 boxes where they all want to lay. Try placing a few fake eggs in the boxes so they know that's the place to lay.
If you are blowing fuses, you have a dead short. From the looks of the wiring, it may be several places. As you said, this is the second time you have worked on your friend's lights to use his trailer. That's a good friend to have. I bought a trailer once with similar issues with the lights. Nothing was standard and wiring was well worn. I went to Northern Tool and just bought a trailer harness of new LED lights that had standard wire colors. And yes, there are color standards for trailer lighting. I even secured the wiring inside a cheap rubber or plastic conduit to the bottom of the trailer to reduce the chance of future damage. Didn't take even half day with me working and crawling around alone. Since that day I have not had any problems, and anyone can come hook to my trailer and all the lights work great. It didn't cost much at all and solved all matter of recurring problems. With the well-worn wiring you show, this is probably not the last time a problem will occur. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing another part of your life ‘on the farm’ in a way that few of us can no longer identify with in a personal manner. We have gotten an education alone with you doing the day-to-day duties. It’s a great blessing for us older guys to remember how we were so many years ago in a rural area of this great country. Also, thanks for sharing your little man who never fails to impress and delights those of us who now have grown grandchildren that will never again provide so much youthful enjoyment.
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼……………………………………………That has to be one of the best things I’ve heard a farmer say! Give your animals the best life possible so that they only have one bad day. Well said!!
You're a good man (& father). I've been watching your channel for the past couple of years and enjoy it. From the high country (7500' elevation) of AZ where the high today was 71. Stay well.
Thanks for sharing, Wes. You don't need to apologise for wanting to send your pigs to market !! That's what farmers do !! Get livestock, care and fatten them and then send to market !! That's how America feeds its population !! And other countries do the same !! It's also known as "feed the nation", brother !!
I don't think he is apologizing. He is recognizing that even as a farmer, you build some sort of connection with the beings you raise (even for food), and isn't entirely indifferent when they go to market.
You bought those pigs for a purpose, and that was for food. I'm sure they have had a better life than the pork you buy in the super market. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and love.
You are a great friend to fix that trailer like you do when you use it!! 👍🤩❤️ So many great improvements on your property - so happy you're going to have all those pounds of pork that you raised!! You've worked hard!! Great job!! 👍👍👍Your little boy is just the cutest, sweetest, smartest, most adorable helper ever!! Thanks for great videos every time!! God bless y'all abundantly!! ❤️🙏❤️
That extra wire might be the ground. When the truck is still, it will ground through the hitch. But when bouncing down the road, the ground is inconsistent, causing the lights to flicker. So, you need to run a ground wire to assure the tow vehicle and the trailer are commonly grounded. An old electrician once told me, when you have a electrical problem, check the ground first!
Your son is amazing. He'll grow up being a smart and brilliant young man. As far as the pigs, yep they are food no matter how you look at it. You've done an kool job raising them. My grandparents had livestock. Chicken for meat and eggs. Cows for milk and meat. Pigs for meat. Then on top of that they has 1 1/2 acre garden plus fruit trees.
Turn on the lights💡 and the toilet🚽 flushes 😂🤣 My Aunt rest her soul...who use to work for Southern 🔔 Bell Telephone Co. answering the phones taking on trouble shooting calls 📞 . She told the story of an elderly lady calling in and said Every time my phone rings...my toilet flushes, and when I answer the phone, it don't say nothing.👍😁✌😂
I just had to start laughing, when you spoke about wiring, my hubby is same as you, not that clued up. But had to laugh when you said soo the toilet will flush in house........ Haha😂 We so enjoy your Chanel. Keep it up, we watching you from South Africa Johannesburg
Great update Wes. Nice mix of chores & info. I was thinking when you were trying to sort the wiring on the trailer it might be best to start from square one and renew the lot, but you got it done. Pigs are looking great, and Wes junior is growing by the day in size and knowledge! Greetings from across the pond - Stay safe & well. 👍👍
Hi Wes. From the beginning, you said what the pigs were for, and you have met your goal. I heard you say it was a loaner trailer but not who it belonged to. If it were my Dad's trailer, and for the amount of time you spent on it, I would have started at the plug on the truck so that all of the functions of the lights would be the same color. To clarify, "While you are there......". It works and that is all that matters. Have good days!
I feel you on the "being ready" to process your livestock. It was not pigs, but last year we decided to get some meat birds and settled on turkeys. I really enjoyed them as they were growing out. They would follow you around like a dog when I was working outside, were very curious and, as a turkey hunter, I actually practiced my calls with them. I was really not sure at one point if I wanted to process them. By the time that came along, they had started to range out farther, which was an issue on a couple of times getting them back, and they were eating much more, of course. I was ready and they were delicious. I think it is part of the natural process in the end for those of us that choose to be an active participant in the food chain. I do so enjoy watching you with the little man. Mine just graduated from UW Madison, so brings back fun memories.
I noticed during the earlier part of the video that you're using pine shavings for the chickens. Something to consider on that is the phenols in the pine. They're highly poisonous and can build up in mammilian livers over time through the air. If you can manage to use aspen shavings or something like that, it would greatly reduce the risk of damage to the chickens and your family. Love the channel!
Wes, I think you may just owe me a coffee and a trip to the dry cleaner after I just snorted half it while listening to your headlights flushing your toilet wiring job!
Your test light is one of the most useful tools for automotive electrical diagnosis. I've fixed extremely expensive cars with just a twelve volt test probe. You're doing that diag exactly right. Keep on keepin on, brother!
GOOGLE is fabulous in explaining wiring color code for trailer lighting and electric brakes. plus, if you don't have the brake pedal depressed, to close the circuit for the brake lights, you won't get power. there is also process of elimination. if you get R, L and running lights, the only wire left is the brakes lights and ground.
Falllineridge one thing i did with all my trailers is switch all my trailers over to the 7 plug connector. No adapters needed and i get a much better connection.
I sure wish I had those nesting boxes! I ordered outside roll out boxes and let me just say if I had a bigger coop I wouldn't have. My girls aren't fans.
Wes, for four wire lights you have a White, Brown, Yellow and Green wires. WHITE isa always the Ground or common wire. This is why it is usually the shortest wire on the trailer wire set. It usually gets connected to the trailer frame close to the hitch and provides a good ground for everything. it is easy to remember what the other three wires are for if you can remember this: gReen is for the Right side (brake and turn), and yeLlow is for the Left side. This leaves the brown wire for the taillights. When you get new lights for trailers, if they have pigtails attached, you will see the same colors. The extra wire that you saw on the right side was probably a ground wire that someone ran because they had problems with the lights. It could also have been a power light for an interior light for the trailer, if it had one.
You're humble, since you almost did all the work! From butchering to building, and fixing vehicle yourself considered extra work, good job. Agree to your way to treat pigs, they have a happy and comfort life, and serve their purpose.
Another thing is the larger the pigs get, the more destructive they are. As Chris at Homesteading The Hard Way says "breaking stuffs their hobby." They look great by the way!
FLR...you were very brave telling us about the pigs...but I believe that you will miss these fellows...that's why you already got more piglets on the Ridge...and I do respect your decision and understand...I think the first time you have sausage gravy on a big cat head biscuit...you will be smiling...!!!
You might want to get some crimp connectors so you can get rid of the wire nuts and the tape. That will save you a lot of trouble in the future. Just saying.
We had a baby pig named Hamfat. He grew large enough one day he walked thru the kitchen screen door. After that we were told Hamfat ran away. Had some Mr. Ben Guined spices to make sausage.
Maaaate! go to a parts store grab 10 yards of 5 core trailer wire and a pug, the plug will have the right colours for each purpose, solder your connections and off you go , simple job rather than patching up and using wire nuts (aaaargh), trust me much easier!!!

Green: Right turn/brake light. Yellow: Left turn/brake light. Brown: Tail/running lights. White: Ground wire. Print this off, and put it in the glove compartment, it might help sometimes when you need it most.
My dad always had two pigs each year to put in the freezer and feed us for the year, he would do the slaughtering himself on the backside of the barn in late fall, then hang them to bleed out for blood pudding, then butcher them in a shed he had just for that. You should try doing one when it’s about 200lbs. Even with lots of laying boxes my chickens lay in two or three only, I keep them in the coop until noon as they tend to lay all their eggs by then.
Next time when hooking the trailer up try moving the pulling vehicle first. It's suspension will probably allow it to move more than the trailer tongue.

Great video. I think it would be really interesting to hear your total cost per pound of processed meat. Also, curious how many total man hours you have in raising these pigs
There's no way to count man hours. If I counted man hours the meat would be $100 a pound. It's a labor of love. When it comes to feed, I think I've greatly reduced the costs as compared to last year.
Pigs can be very vicious and because they are so intelligent they are pretty destructive, My mum used to work for home help and she got a new client one day and he was way out of town on a farm, she went down a long driveway and there were pigs everywhere, huge pigs! For trailer wiring brown is running light yellow is left turn and green is right turn brake light work with turning signals. Hope this helps
hello fall line ridge it's is randy and i like yours video is cool thanks friends randy

The pigs turned out really nice. Good size in a quick timeframe. We say that if they looked like piglets at processing time, we’d never process any.
We are down to 11 pigs left. Really slowing down on pork production here. The labor they require just isn’t sustainable for us.
Hate to hear that, they're such interesting animals. But, I can totally get that, they do take up a lot of time. Thanks for stopping by, Chuck!
Green: Right turn/brake light. Yellow: Left turn/brake light. Brown: Tail/running lights. White: Ground wire. Print this off, and put it in the glove compartment, it might help sometimes when you need it most.

Cute pigs. They'd love to have you for dinner. You better have them for dinner first.
You're right. That is a lot of work for a pork chop but it will taste good. That really made me laugh.
Next time when hooking the trailer up try moving the pulling vehicle first. It's suspension will probably allow it to move more than the trailer tongue.

I think it's just because it's delicious.
Yay I enjoyed it See you next go round. Those pigs said you make a tasty pork chop too
Green Right Yellow left and brown running

I always stuck a safety pin into the wire and touched it with my test light probe.
That is a good one!!😂😂😂😂😂
Crazy left over live stock left in the trailer 😂😂
I do know what you mean by saying you can not fully trust them my last pigs that I raise my male was around 800 pounds and was friendly as it can be put when a pig that big sneak behind you and want some loving it is quit a bulldozer plus he had his tusk so if I had to go in his pen I made sure there was somebody keeping an eye on him to let me know he was coming so I could face him instead of being surprised by him and give some loving , have a great day and I know they will make very tasty meat

When I was a teenager, I worked on one of my uncle's farms during summer brake he would raise about 10 pigs a year well my cousin Bob lost 3 fingers by one of those friendly 300 pound pigs at feeding time.
You can take your test like point and stick it through the insulation on The Wire instead of stripping The wire
It could be a good idea to label those wires on the trailer for next time you have a problem. That could save you a lot of time. Just some duct tape and marker
When you hit the brakes, the yellow and green act as brake lights
your toilet commentary had me laughing something fierce

I got a laugh out of you doing the thumbnail, or trying to with Oreo and the other three .
They never cooperate with me. Rambunctious things.
What a MESS! I'd probably yank all that wiring out and start with a brand new harness.
Yeah it's bad, but I think it'll get me there and back.
I laughed out loud when that pig bit your boob
Wasn't funny at the time!

Ha! I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time but that's one of the best pig stories I've heard. Thanks for sharing!
@@falllineridge my dad didn’t even get angry, he just started laughing and kept shaking his head! 🤦🏼♀️😂
