  • Tulsi Gabbard is a former Congresswoman, veteran, 2020 presidential candidate, and host of the new society and culture podcast, The Tulsi Gabbard Show: www.tulsigabba...
    Tulsi served Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District from 2013-2021. During her time in office, she served on the Homeland Security Committee, the Armed Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Financial Services Committee. From 2013-2016, Tulsi served as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee. In 2019, she launched her 2020 presidential campaign, becoming the first female combat veteran to run for president.
    This October, Tulsi announced her departure from the Democrat Party.
    Tulsi enlisted in the Hawaii Army National Guard in 2003. In 2004, she deployed for a year-long tour to Iraq where she served as a medical specialist. After graduating from the Accelerated Officer Candidate School at the Alabama Military Academy in 2007, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. She was stationed in Kuwait from 2008 to 2009, serving as an Army Military Police Officer.
    She is a recipient of the Combat Medical Badge and the Meritorious Service medal. In July 2021, she was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.
    Today on Danger Close, Jack and Tulsi discuss her views on the Second Amendment, Big Tech, the state of political discourse in America, cancel culture, and more.

    Jack, do you believe she's truly had a change of heart on her more progressive 2A stances or is it an act? As late as 2018, in addition to numerous bills she's supported, she posted on twitter: "I’ve cosponsored bills to close the gun show loophole, ban assault weapons, require background checks on anyone seeking to purchase a gun & more" and was still pushing the progressive agenda on guns (and green energy too). I really like her, i guess what i am asking, do you think her change of heart towards conservatism is real or she just trying to find a new party to win with?

    Key takeaways
    1. I liked that Gabbard humbly changed her position on 2A. I would have liked a pointed question about the AR-15. I would have greatly appreciated an unequivocal statement; “I was wrong. Americans should be able to own weapons of war to protect their god given rights.”
    2. Totally respect Gabbard on her perspective of combat leadership. Great position.

    • @sar4x474
      @sar4x474 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wilfdarr My sarcasm must have been too subtle. My apologies. The dems have made the term ubiquitous whenever they move to ban them. I just wanted her to take the larger step to address this weapon specifically. But, further, it is my belief that our founding fathers intent on the 2A was specifically and exactly intended to protect weapons that can be used in a war. For them, they wanted to protect muskets, flint locks, swords and cannon.

    • @wilfdarr
      @wilfdarr ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sar4x474 Agreed. HOWEVER, they could not have imagined Chlorine Gas or the fact that I can readily manufacture it in my kitchen, the MG-42 at a time where the Springfield Trapdoor had yet to be invented, or nuclear weapons a century before the Wright Brothers first flight (and they certainly could have never imagined a day when individual citizens like Musk and Bezos could both afford the weapons and own vehicles capable of deploying them)! And to touch on the 1st as well, they could have never imagined the idea that corporations would have such a grip on our freedom of speech.
      Now in fairness I can't imagine a system that infringes my right to own weapons, nor a system that tells me what material I as a publisher must publish, but the time has come that we need to be open to the idea that the amendments were by design intended to be further amended to be synchronous with the times, and the way they are currently written simply isn't: the fact that the First amendment says “Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech,” yet all sorts of laws now exist limiting the freedom of speech, and the Second Amendment says "shall not be infringed", and yet most Americans now accept that infringement to some degree or another is acceptable or even desirable, this undermines and gravely weakens the authority of a document who's authority must be by necessity absolute! As such, the constitution's time as currently written and understood is limited: we can either negotiate and pass a compromised document that captures the realities of our time, or else we'll eventually find that the "text as informed by history", where a history of infringement and curtailment has become the norm, becomes absolutely hollow.

      They were well aware that technology advances, especially in regards to weapons. So they wanted the people to be able to defend themselves. Shall not be infringed is very simple. Unfortunately, folks like you will always twist it to try to justify tyranny. Truly pathetic.

    Great to see her on the show.... SUGGESTION - Switch chairs with the guest...Camera angle 1 and 2 for you would be better for the guest, it would feel more like shes speaking to the audience and you. Camera angle 1 and 2 for the guest feels a little distant...or create a similar camera angle 2 for the guest...GREAT podcast - love your books and show!

    Five Fucking Stars, This was great podcast. Tulsi is saying all the right things, the difference is she say's it with conviction. I was on the fence because of the 2nd Amendment things but this week I am convinced she has grown away from that. She mentions the Constitution in a lot of what she talks about. As a politician it is your guidebook to your job. Great job!!

      For what it's worth, she actually did implicitly admit that she was wrong re: 2A rights on her own podcast. It was with some humility as well. If it was lip service, she has been keeping it up for more than a few years. I'm starting to think she's for real.

    What's critical is to have a shared mutual goal and endpoint. We need to realize that classical liberals and conservatives largely have this shared vision, just different roads to get there. The "left" (communist/socialist/progressive/fascist) is something completely different and completely incompatible with the American values of life, liberty, and property/pursuit of happiness. This cannot be tolerated and must be removed.

    Jack, excellent episode as always. It was good to see that Tulsi supports most of what I value, however, I am somewhat skeptical of her position on 2A. She tweeted this in 2018: "Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard @TulsiPress
    The stakes are too high to allow politics to get in the way of Congress taking action to pass common sense gun safety legislation. I've cosponsored bills to close the gun show loophole, ban assault weapons, require background checks on anyone seeking to purchase a gun & more
    9:13 PM • Feb 28, 2018 • Twitter for iPhone". People change, but this is a big flip.

    I enjoyed your conversation and thoughts on the Freedom of Information Act, NSA ('In the Blood' was great by the way!! :) and some concerns about the rise of organizations attempting to cause a 'rift' in society, trying to undermine American patriotism; race wars included. Have you read Brad Taylor's new book 'End of Days'? Super good; I don't want to say to much, but it hits on some very important issues: 'sleeper cells' included. It's hard, like you said, to balance freedom of speech and expression with security. Great podcast, lots of 'food for thought' .... Lisa

    Hopefully more Americans are waking up to the fact that neither political party actually cares about the American people and the letter next to a candidates name tell you nothing about the content of their character. Most Americans I know hold a mix of beliefs. The ones that agree with their party 100% on all issues are rooting for a team rather than thinking independently about individual policy issues.
    As Thomas Sowell said, there are no solutions, only trade-offs. Based on our individual hierarchy of needs/values we can have honest disagreements over what trade-offs we are willing to accept, rather than painting the other side as evil. Liberals are not the enemy, conservatives are not the enemy, ideologues are the enemy.
    There is a reason HRC went out of her way to smear Tulsi, even though Tulsi was polling at the bottom of the pack in the primaries. It's because independent thinkers are a threat to the influence peddling duopoly running our country at the behest of the donor class.
