Found this band while searching for similar artists to Rivers of Nihil, and god damn are they good. Excellent compositions on this album (well, all of them). Stoked to delve deeper into their discography!
Andy from BCI did guest vocals on where owls know my name. I think he’s married to one of the dudes in Rivers of Nihil’s sister.

@@insidaero2530 i never said they were. But youre right, they're far beyond the single chord chugging and monotony of BCI. Few artists can mesh odd genres [Calypso, Waltz, Bossa Nova rhythms] with metal. However, when this is recommended after First Fragment, its like drinking spoiled milk after a cookie.
As a Boomer this really scratches an itch. The itch would be the longing for a heavy Opeth LP.

I just read an interview with the lead singer/guitarist/founder and he said that Opeth's Blackwater Park was one of the biggest metal influences he had when he was a kid. I definitely hear the Opeth influence in the music. Before today I hadnt heard of these guys. Today I discovered a wierd parallel dimension where heavy Opeth lives one!🤘🤘🤘🤘

Just something about the heavy riffage with the eery singing hits that spot. Love their style, almost not comparable to any other bands
This song and album though... It has been on repeat many, many times already and will be for a long time. What a stellar release and brilliant songwriting.

You know that feeling you get when you're completely overwhelmed by how good a song is and chills go through your body and you almost laugh with the elation that comes along with that? Yeah, Black Crown Initiate produces that in every new song. Invitation was my favorite of the first three, but holy FUCK this was breathtaking.
Wow, this could become my favorite band instantly after listening to this song. The production sound stands strong, such great drum patterns. Seems not even fair to compare this with other bands since there is enough own inginiouity.
this is the most solid production on all of their albums by far, the ep and the first album were clipping pretty bad. that said it's all amazing and yes, they slap most other bands to the ground
The more new tracks I listen to, the more I think this is gonna be their best album so far
I've read things from people who know them, and I have a friend who is friends with them who has heard the songs, and they all say that it is evident that BCI spent several years crafting this record. It's gonna be AOTY. This or Unleash the Archers, if that one stands up with their last.

@@shredforceone Judging by the singles I doubt Unleash the Archers will be anywhere near AOTY. I like them and Britney is fantastic, but she's pretty much the only thing they have. Other than that it's nothing more than a decent power metal... Black Crown Initiate will definetely drop way way better album, but to each of their own of course...
for me personally nothing beats The crippled Bull EP but this album is their best yet.

New to the BCI fold as of today. Wow! A find like this band is like finding manna in the wilderness after searching for what seems like 40 long years.
This video was uploaded on the day my mother passed away and it's only now that I'm coming around to play it. She struggled with cervical cancer for a year and a half and I was with her all the way through like I promised her I would be when the diagnosis came through. I find comfort in the fact that I got to keep my promise and spent an extra year and a half with her. I will miss her very much.

This album is an album of the year contender. So much beauty and emotions on this record. BCI have crafted their own style of progdeath. You can't in all fairness compare them to Opeth. Their vibe and approach are different.

As someone with an addictive personality, this incites obsession. I haven't seen too many comments about how well-made the actual video is. It fits the music perfectly. 2:19, the harmonic sweep implies a slicing effect as Jesus’s face is sliced in half. Pretty cool.

Does anybody have a theoretical narrative for the story this mv portraits? I've watched a few vids with Andy Thomas discussing the new album and he's pretty silent on specific inspiration/ subject matter for the new album. At face value, I'm seeing a tyrant king during the medieval times rule his people with an iron fist and thinking he's invulnerable, messes with forces of nature and gets killed in the process. This ruler doesn't learn humility through death and continues on with "ruling" the underworld with the same disregard to human life as he did when he was alive. What do ya'll think?
The consepts probably go against the narrative and they dont want to be cancelled.
