  • Svetlana Zakharova and Igor Zelensky - Le Corsaire. St Petersburg 300 Years Gala 2003.
    ***
    Le Corsaire - is a ballet typically presented in three acts, with a scenario originally created by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges, loosely based on the poem The Corsair by Lord Byron. Originally choreographed by Joseph Mazilier to the music of Adolphe Adam, it was first presented by the ballet of the Théâtre Impérial de l´Opéra in Paris on 23 January 1856. All modern productions of Le corsaire have their roots in the revivals staged by the Ballet Master Marius Petipa for the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg throughout the mid to late 19th century.
    The ballet has many celebrated passages which are often extracted from the full-length work and performed independently: the scene Le jardin animé, the Pas d'esclave, the Pas de trois des odalisques, and the so-called Le corsaire pas de deux, which is among classical ballet's most famous and performed excerpts.
    Today Le Corsaire is performed chiefly in two different versions: those productions derived from the Kirov/Mariinsky Ballet's 1977 production (initially staged by Pyotr Gusev for the Maly/Mikhailovsky Theatre of Leningrad in 1955); and those derived from the Ballet Master Konstantin Sergeyev's production (initially staged for the Kirov/Mariinsky Ballet in 1973, and later for the Bolshoi Ballet in 1992).

    The classic attitude at 2:14 is breathtaking. The alignment of the two is sublime. One of endless moments that overwhelm in this pas de deux.

    INCOMPARABLE. TWO DANCE GENIUSES. I ATTENDED A LIVE PERFORMANCE IN TORONTO WITH HIM AND LOPATKINA IN SWAN LAKE. HE ALSO DID APPOLO. LOPATKINA WAS HAUNTINGLY ETHERIAL AND HE WAS BRILLIANT, AS WELL. THE RUSSIANS, WITH THEIR TRAGIC HISTORY, ARE THE VERY BEST WHEN IT COMES TO PERFORMANCE ART. PAIN, MISERY AND GREAT ART: YOU CAN'T HAVE ONE WITHOUT THE OTHER, SAD TO SAY.

    I saw Nureyev starring in this ballet near the end of his career. His solos were astounding; he flew, seemingly suspended in mid-air for seconds. He must have leapt over 15 ft. at 5 to 6 ft. height. It was breathtaking. Even more unbelievable, as we read in the reviews he performed that night with fever up to 103F and was later hospitalized with pneumonia.

    it's probabaly because the tempo is fast and her legs are extremely long. but i super like them more anybody else's. i noticed in some ballerinas that they tend to turn their legs in during the last half.

  • @mlark4
    @mlark4 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you're referring to the male solo, it's the dancer who is behind in first solo. Admittedly, the music is a bit stiff and the film is poor, which may account for some of the synchronization being off.

    This great dancer, artist Igor Zelensky became 'persona non grata' in Germany and was forced to leave the Bayerisches Staatsballett as artistic director in April 2022 because he has a relation with the youngest dauchter of Vladimir Putin (she was also a dancer). The couple artistic lovers have a dauther. Art is not the same as politics, even when a presidents dauther is 'part of the game' just because she is the dauhter... Tssss... Let fine arts be part of peacemovements to finish all the wars ! Never ever sanctions to art and artists!

      +Danielle Meyer Osipova is a tomboy, should have been a rhythmic gymnast. Ballet without grace is not ballet. Doesn't exist a dancer in the world who's able to move her uper body quite like S. Zakharova. Honestly i don't care about her technique - she could be falling all over the place for all i care - as long as she keeps on moving her arms and hands like THAT...
