The language thing is amazing. It's a tough language to learn. Can't believe one goes into college level courses given in Russian without knowing the language. Maybe courses were given by English speaking professors but they would not have had translators like interpreters for the deaf right in the classroom😅

I'm a retired print reporter and this reminds me more of the conversations reporters used to have after 'the event' at the bar.
Say some big time politicians were doing an event nearby that all the reporters were covering. There'd be a gaggle after the event where we'd get to fire a question or two at one or some of the politicians and then the reporters would go to the bar where the big time reporters talked with us locals and there'd be an information and contact exchange. It was just assumed everyone had command of the English language.
That's how I met James Rosen who is my favorite reporter and is now covering the State Department. Sarah McClendon, the first woman chairman of the White House Correspondents Assn., knew my uncle who had been a White House correspondent.
Conceptually, reporters used to be members of a big family. Frankly, I learned more about the politicians, the politics, DC and reporting at the bar.
In my final years I began noticing the younger reporters were much more partisan and made no attempt at fair and balanced reporting. They were also 'journalists' not reporters anymore.
In fact, when reporters, editors and producers quit being reporters, editors and producers and became 'journalists' they'd clearly elevated themselves but were no longer married to the rules of English grammar.

It's amazing to me how helpless Americans are when it comes to media. They're either followers that don't think for themselves and just go along with the mainstream media or you have people who realize how dishonest the mainstream media is and then they run right into the arms of even more dishonest independent media like Matt and Ryan and Emily.
These folks make dishonest mainstream media seem like objective journalism but no one who likes these people will ever accept that truth just like MSNBC fans will defend MSNBC to death. For some reason Americans can't recognize that our entire news media is full of propagandists like Emily and Matt it's a matter of how extremely dishonest they are

America was great economically for the white working class, the MAGAs, in 1980. They had good paying jobs, owned their house, owned their car, had good health care, had a good pension, were able to afford to send their kids to college, had savings instead of being buried in debt, had good vacations. That was all lost by globalization where all of those good jobs were treasonously sent to China. And globalization was enacted only after unions lost their power. When Reagan came into power in 1980 30% of working class Americans were in unions. By the time the first Bush left office in 1992 it was down to 10%. Unions could no longer afford to fund a Democratic presidential campaign in 1992 so Clinton/Gore went to the rich, the traditional Republican donors for campaign funds. This led to the Democrats now being for the rich and to sponsor globalization first with NAFTA. It also led to the existential battle for donors money between the Democratic and Republican Party which continues to rage today. And the 2008 mortgage scam crisis put the final nail in the coffin of six million more working class workers and their families.
The offshoot of all of this is that the MAGAs are a working class economic movement more than a cultural movement. But NOBODY in the press cares to mention this. It's all this bullsh*t culture war crap.
