To everyone saying they're awkward, I'm sure it was a shock to them that they had won. They didn't expect it and didn't have anything prepared to say IF they won. Theyre standing there like 'fuck, we won a GRAMMY!' What did you want from them, a George Clooney academy awards acceptance speech patting themselves on the back for their progressive role in humanity?
It's great that the best band ever finally gets legit recognition for their greatness They were nice and humble about it too, which is good. Sometimes they can be a bit pretentious, but they were classy there. I Believe in The Mars Volta!
It's not that they hate them, it's probably just that they don't get their music. People nowadays are used to fucking ready-made music, always the same shit. The Mars Volta is an original, amazing band in a league of its own. I must admit that a few years ago I was in my "Metallica era" like every young teenager, and an older friend came to me and said listen to this that's amazing. I was like...wtf is that? I didn't get the genius of these guys until last year, and now they're one of my fav band
I was completely unaware that they had won a grammy, that's really cool. Really awesome band. It's good to see more latinos are pickin up grammys. Lol at Juan, "Viva Mexico" :) Makes me happy to be Mexican. Anywho, great group. :)
The rest of the nominees were a bunch record company cash cows putting out the same stuff since their inceptions. It's nice to know TMV are one of those bands that do what they want and still get recognized by a mainstream awards show.
I love, Love, LOVE, The Volta my hands down Fav. was francis the mute however all of there stuff has been great. Ive seen them live about 5 times. Never got to see at the drive in wich to me was ok. but I hope the Volta keep doing there thing for many years to come.
Hrm...thanks a lot for the definition. I wonder how many Motley Crue fans even knew about that. I'm glad these guys won. They fully deserve this and much more for all their hard work and dedication.
So much flaming going on it's hard to follow.. haha They're talented, no doubt... I just wish they could pull off the same clean sounds live as they do in the studio
Finally, the most original and one of the most hard-working bands alive gets cred for their genius. Though still, most "average bears" can have no appreciation for them in this era, as Poe and Mozart: severely unappreciated in their own time.
i love "cassssaaaandra's" reaction to their victory. how could one be surprised over the outcome. i can't believe they were put in a category with those fucks. no competition
it is very good in my opinion. the only song that i dont enjoy is copernicus....but cotopaxi, teflon, desperate graves, luciforms, etc are all SO epic...
@s4msam yeah, when i first heard them i knew it was something special but it took me a year or two and a live performance to grasp what was going on. one of the best bands of this generation.
"making things complicated for no reason"?? dude its called art, its a creative expression, and usually those muscians who write and create "complicated music" (which wins them a GRAMMY) they have some high level of musicanship.
I really don't know what to think about them winning this for Wax Simulacra. We don't know if this momentum is gonna be good or bad for the escence of the band, but this is a very important moment in The Mars Volta history.
really? I love bedlam. I think it's something unbelievable for today's music. It's my favourite together with delused. I agree with madpaintbarlex, Octahedron seems more like a side project. Mars volta really have talent, you go to see them live and you can feel the love for the music, you can really tell that they are enjoying their music and that they love to play. They have revived a spirit that the rock seemed to have lost long time ago.
Don't understand why the chick in 0:36 looks so surprised. She obviously never heard of this band before, because in these times they are totally above them all. They're a league of their own. Untouchable.
Best band ever. Opiateofthemasses...that noise u think is pots and pans falling down a spiral staircase is all very carefully organized sounds that your mind is too simple to comprehend
Yes, the crowd there at the Grammys was pretty lame, but do they really need one of those awards to prove how bad ass they are? Grammy or not, TMV kicks major arse.
haha yeah i know i apologize. part of that was my fault. i will agree with you there, they're sound quality live is very muddy, but that has more to do with the sound man than anything else. they always play pretty great but the mix isnt great. people complained about Yes for the same thing back in the 70s. so much music going on that its hard to follow and the sound mix can easily get fuzzy.
2 kinds of ppl in this world. Those who think Mars Volta music is just noise or those who have eargasms with every listen
Truest thing I've ever heard.
To everyone saying they're awkward, I'm sure it was a shock to them that they had won. They didn't expect it and didn't have anything prepared to say IF they won. Theyre standing there like 'fuck, we won a GRAMMY!' I think it's so great that they took the invitation and decided to go. It's so cute and respectful of them. lol. *swoons*
LOVE THIS BAND!! has the most unique style of music today, VIVA MEXICO CABRONES
Best band of the last 20 years, hands down. Such a shame they fell apart now.
Nothing has come even close.
Well, we *may* be on the verge of something new from them
Until now!
Theyre back!
And they fell apart again!!
It's great that the best band ever finally gets legit recognition for their greatness
They were nice and humble about it too, which is good. Sometimes they can be a bit pretentious, but they were classy there.
I Believe in The Mars Volta!
i just love how they get straight to the point "this is for my mom and dad." "this is for my dad."
Mykayla insta?
THOMAS LOOKS BANGED OUT
It's not that they hate them, it's probably just that they don't get their music. People nowadays are used to fucking ready-made music, always the same shit. Really awesome band.
It's good to see more latinos are pickin up grammys.
Lol at Juan, "Viva Mexico" :)
Makes me happy to be Mexican.
Anywho, great group. :)
what makes them great is their uniqueness and their eclectic range of influences and exotic melodies and chords. its not just their technical ability.
Finally real musicians win a grammy.
Another great band that got overlooked and received low recognition. How shit like Black Eyed Peas and One Direction get more is unbelievable!
no kidding, both those groups music are dismal.
The rest of the nominees were a bunch record company cash cows putting out the same stuff since their inceptions. It's nice to know TMV are one of those bands that do what they want and still get recognized by a mainstream awards show.
cedric could not have delivered a better tribute to lux interior and ron asheton.
i am SO proud of him (and of course of the guys) right now.
I love, Love, LOVE, The Volta my hands down Fav. was francis the mute however all of there stuff has been great. Ive seen them live about 5 times. Never got to see at the drive in wich to me was ok. but I hope the Volta keep doing there thing for many years to come.
Wax Simulacra definitely blows anything those other bands wrote out of the water. they're all great bands, but the Mars Volta is the best by far.
They had to make 8 fucking horns for them. Pwned.
Ha, fuckin awesome. Still can't believe they won
Hrm...thanks a lot for the definition. I wonder how many Motley Crue fans even knew about that. I'm glad these guys won. They fully deserve this and much more for all their hard work and dedication.
yup..they deserve more !! and more!!!
R.I.P. Isaiah. You will forever be remembered.
that's great news. can't believe i just found out.
Back when I may have respected the Grammy's
they also used to be on a fuckload of drugs when they were in at the drive-in
icing on the cake for this bands legacy , the mars volta will probably go down to the debate for the best band in this generation!
The Mars Volta Will Always Prevail!
wooooo!
They deserved it!
VIVA LA VOLTA!
So much flaming going on it's hard to follow.. haha
They're talented, no doubt...
I just wish they could pull off the same clean sounds live as they do in the studio
fuuuuuuk yes
I love how their art is intense but their demeanor is laid back!
I'm glad they won.
The original engineer on Bedlam in Goliath had a nervous breakdown during the recording of that album.
god... bixler-zavala and rodriguez-lopez are so awkward... but pridgen is just chillin
Thomas said a whole sentence without using the word "Like"?
a glimmer of hope in an era of crappy music
how can you hate mars volta!!!! argh!!! they are friggen awesome!
Finally, the most original and one of the most hard-working bands alive gets cred for their genius. Though still, most "average bears" can have no appreciation for them in this era, as Poe and Mozart: severely unappreciated in their own time.
probably the biggest band on that stage that night...
Juan, Pablo, Ikey, Adrian, Marcel, Thomas, Cedric and Omar. They earned it.
looove them!
I loved every single word each one of them said
What do you think of the newest album?
i love "cassssaaaandra's" reaction to their victory. how could one be surprised over the outcome. i can't believe they were put in a category with those fucks. no competition
that would have been a fucking crime if any off those other bands won
Cedric reminds me of a young Rob Tyner from MC5
well thats a great argument. you must be a certified genius.lmao
damn, thats tight...lucky you
they rock out way harder than judist preist and all that crap
its not on purpose ,they are actually like that , a lot of people are , i would know.
it is very good in my opinion. the only song that i dont enjoy is copernicus....but cotopaxi, teflon, desperate graves, luciforms, etc are all SO epic...
@FuryoftheSound
and Wayne obviously never heard of them
OMG fuck yeah
@s4msam yeah, when i first heard them i knew it was something special but it took me a year or two and a live performance to grasp what was going on. one of the best bands of this generation.
"making things complicated for no reason"?? dude its called art, its a creative expression, and usually those muscians who write and create "complicated music" (which wins them a GRAMMY) they have some high level of musicanship.
thank you johnorey. thats been my entire point the entire time.
haha, the boys look so awkward, i love em.
have you seen the mars volta live?
volta all the way......i like At the Drive-In....but i think that Omar and Cedric were being held back in terms of what they can do with there talent.
THEY ARE PERFECT
Shit this is awkward, if I had been there I would have gone mental! Amazing band, they fully deserved this award :D
the Grammys are for the mainstream ... who are these guys doing wrong?, is assumed to be separated at the drive in for it.
too awesome
Big ups to the Mars Volta piss on all the haters whoever you are.
los grammys son para los mainstream...que estan haciendo mal estos tipos?,se supone que se separaron de at the drive in por eso.
Same here, it seemed so quiet and the clapping sounded like three people, but I'm over joyed they won.
I think it's safe to say that Juan's bass is fused to his body.
and the winner is................
yeah but mars volta could run circles around any of those other bands... you're just pissed disturbed didn't win
I really don't know what to think about them winning this for Wax Simulacra.
We don't know if this momentum is gonna be good or bad for the escence of the band, but this is a very important moment in The Mars Volta history.

Mars volta really have talent, you go to see them live and you can feel the love for the music, you can really tell that they are enjoying their music and that they love to play.
They have revived a spirit that the rock seemed to have lost long time ago.
That was the greatest thing I have ever seen.
viva mexico
haha omars laugh at 2:02 hahah fuckin dork, hes the man!!!!
HAHAHA.
No one expected them to win.
Don't understand why the chick in 0:36 looks so surprised. She obviously never heard of this band before, because in these times they are totally above them all. They're a league of their own. Untouchable.
1:03 Ahuevo, viva Mexico Cabrones!!!!
Hahaha thats so true. even the dude that presented them sounded like he was confused. the tone in his voice was questioning. lol
they are dressed up so well.except for juan.LMAO.
Hell yeah!!
They beat motley crap!
and Judas priest!
Mars voltas music is ACTUALLY music.
@yaashdev The lady is Tia Carrere.
The Mars Volta lost their way. they were tight as hell beack in 2002-2006
Yo sólo puedo decir una cosa: ¡VIVA MÉXICO! ¡A HUEVO!
amputechture is incredible. repetetitive? my ass "Tetragrammaton", amazing! still my fave song for sure, "roulette Dares"
surprised much at 0.36???
Is the guy who announced that MV were the winners that guy from Whose Line Is It Anyway??
You can clearly see that the chick doesn't know who or what the mars volta is.
i like how they have wayne brady and the chick from waynes world give TMV their grammy. thats great
ya that to. Deloused to amputecthure (Frances between lol) I would never forget about that Album
thanx to lux interior and ron ashton....well with those words you got me ...as a fan! .....cause i'm a wild child!
hahahaha! i love omar's metaphors :)
@yaashdev The man who presented was Wayne Brady! I'm not sure about the woman though...
Souledgex1 he is forever a legend for presenting
They're real music. You don't know about them because you're drowning in the mainstream.
Best band ever. Opiateofthemasses...that noise u think is pots and pans falling down a spiral staircase is all very carefully organized sounds that your mind is too simple to comprehend
@pinkpop91764 I don't think that it would bother them either way, just probably reassert their dislike of the crowd
Yes, the crowd there at the Grammys was pretty lame, but do they really need one of those awards to prove how bad ass they are? Grammy or not, TMV kicks major arse.
"We are the real Motley Crüe do to their styles that comprise more then hard rock" hahaha
haha the narration is so awkward. all they meant was that theyre a motley lookin group of dudes lol
+SilversteinRescue A Motley Crew means a 'diverse, unorganized group'.
So awkward... hahaha. Good for them. Its cool that they got recognized, even if it really means shit in the long run. They seem to feel the same way.
then what the hell do you listen to that's so great? i saw youre page.
Did someone ask that question and expect them to say "OF COARSE WE ARE INFLUENCED BY DISTURBED!!!"
haha yeah i know i apologize. part of that was my fault.
i will agree with you there, they're sound quality live is very muddy, but that has more to do with the sound man than anything else. they always play pretty great but the mix isnt great. people complained about Yes for the same thing back in the 70s. so much music going on that its hard to follow and the sound mix can easily get fuzzy.
who were the presenters of their award?
