I've been lucky enough to see him live several times, he plays with such immense joy even at this point in his career. No one loves to play guitar as much as Adrian Belew.
I met him after a show, here in Canada. He was the most positive, joyful person I thought no I have ever met. And he played on two days. Astoundingly brilliant performances
His work with Crimson on their first album together is also stellar. th-cam.com/video/KjYScBRJ-jU/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=2shellrock And their second album: th-cam.com/video/MTDgmt9A2I0/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=KingCrimson
I was fortunate enough to see him live in this Talking Heads lineup, and in the King Crimson "Discipline" lineup, and with Laurie Anderson. All back in the day. In more recent years I've caught his solo show. He gets the sound in this clip with that "Sustaniac" pickup in his Strat. It's sort of like a permanently installed e-bow. A battery-powered infinite sustain generator.
I've always been a fan and could never understand why the man is not as well-known as Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix. He's just brilliant and totally original. He's a huge inspiration for me although I play nothing like him. He's just great.
I first discovered Belew in the mid 80s after getting really deep into Zappa. Being a guitar player myself I had to check out someone who Zappa thought was good enough to be in his band. :D I absolutely love his earlier albums through the 80s. So many amazing songs that blended his unique quirky style and amazing pop songs. Lone Rino - Tang Bar King - Desire Caught by the Tail... so many great albums.
The whole freaking band is killing it. I remember to this day the first time I heard Remain In Light. It forever changed my conceptions about what music could be.
He is just the most original guitar player out there, look at his back catalogue. I was lucky enough to see the power trio 8 years ago, met him and the band in the hotel lobby of my hotel. Met my hero, doesn’t get better ❤
I saw the Talking Heads live for this very tour (I still have the tour shirt, the black one seen as the clip begins!) and I couldn't believe what I was experiencing. The whole thing felt transcendent, and Belew's guitar was a HUGE reason why.
It's like he's physically wrenching the sounds out of something that's organic & suffering.. 😶 He played for Bowie briefly too. Still inspiring to watch after all this time.. 🙏
Hearing the album Remain In Light for the first time while in a record store (back when it came out) made me an instant fan. I put him at the top along with Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and Bill Nelson.
he was even better when he played with his earlier bands the bears. although this is rare and super cool. saw this tour. one of the greats and still playin
I saw Adrian at the same club Zappa discovered him at back in 1977 playing with his band Sweetheart. They all wore Zoot suits. Now he lives just down the road from me.
Just checked his discography and I have a mere 21 albums by other artist on which he played (including King Crimson) and his first three solo albums. Yes, I like Adrian Belew, I must get more of his solo work.
Met Adrian Belew while touring with King Crimson "DeconstruKCtion of Light" tour at Park West in Chicago. I have met a few famous musicians and he was definitely one of the nicest guys ever. Took a picture with him. Big fan of all his musical endeavors. ❤ the album "Inner Revolution" "Big Blue Sun" is a masterpiece IMO.
Well, it was Zappa that pulled Adrian from an obscure bar band (around 1976?) and put him in the big leagues, so that kind of fits. And from there David Bowie poached him from Zappa after seeing a Zappa show in Germany. I think the Zappa guitarist after Adrian was Steve Vai, and then Warren Cuccurullo.
He walks on water. I saw Crimson twice with him. Forget everyone else except the late great Jeff Beck. There is no King Crimson without him. Forget fripp
Don’t diss Fripp like that, come on. King Crimson was amazing before Belew even joined. Saying that there’s no KC without Belew is denying how amazing ITCOTCK, Larks Tongues in Aspic and Red are, + the 4 other albums they released before him were also pretty good, way better than Beat, Three of a Perfect Pair, and Construction of Light definitely, and debatably better than the other 3 Belew albums.
Adrian Belew En fantastisk Musiker Enestående Spilte med de største ZAPPA King Crimson og Bowie m.m flere Master med humør lekende fete Gitar riff Som ZAPPA sa Hører ikke humør inn blant musikken Jovisst se på Master Adrian Belew Konge🎸🤩🙏
I argue Adrian every time someone wants to Jimmy this or Stevie Ray that. Adrian finds hidden secrets others never look for. Gibson my butt! Nothing is as fuzzy as BIG ELECTRIC CAT! It was so sad that the only time I saw him live was gigging with Bowie's hideous "let's dance" tour with NO suffragette city and the LAME disco version of putting out the fire. In my head, I could hear him thinking: *"If Robert and Tony we here, we'd rock this stadium to the ground! Clue phone Dave... DISCO IS DEAD!"* hahahahahaha
Adrian is the man! David Byrne was probably breaking a sweat, having another guy in the band that coincidentally hit so close to his aesthetic who could also absolutely fuck shit up and shred on the guitar. I can also understand why Frank Zappa was so sour when Bowie (softly) poached Adrian from his band. It would have been amazing to have Zappa sit in on the Lodger album, but he was well within his rights to tell Bowie to screw off for stealing his hot-shot guitar player. (Frank probably would have improved Lodger, considering the filler that ended up on it. Frank sacrificed a lot of odd-time, "remain in light" sounding jams for stupid songs on Joe's Garage around the same time. Who knows what Bowie could have done with a half-finished Frank piece like "Saddle Bags," or something as sad and devastating as "Outside Now" with Bowie lyrics...)
He was my good friend's favorite player too. Dude had been into him all throughout high school, into college. My buddy was the one that introduced him to me. Saw that he played with Zappa, who I was just getting into at the time. Well my buddy paid lots of extra money to get to meet him backstage at a show. He met his idol. Adrian was rude to my friend, who'd idolosed him, and basically shit all over years of fandom. My buddy just hears a rude egotistical asshole with no time for fans now. Don't meet your idols.
Talking Heads at their best, Tina Weymouth removing her bass before the track is completely finished, she wasn't too keen on having another bass player at the same time as her and Belew's solos stealing the show (and the raving reviews about his solos on Remain In Light). After that Talking Heads composed songs together and never were as interesting as when Byrne was in control.
Got to see him in the 90's with King Crimson in a small club, Fripp, Levin and Bruford,...... Adrian fit in perfectly.
I turned all three of my kids on to his music at shows, including his solo Painting With Guitar tour. He’s a wizard, yet such a humble guy 🎶🙏
""Adrian reinvented the electric guitar" Frank Zappa. Adrian Belew rules
True
Adrian on remain in light was expanding the instrument more than anyone at the time.
AB is my favorite!
I sawa him play with Zappa. That's what he was doing. The only musician who uses a tech from Home Depot.
His work with Crimson on their first album together is also stellar.
th-cam.com/video/KjYScBRJ-jU/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=2shellrock
And their second album:

Mmmmmmm, Discipline. Love that album!
So lucky, I just started collecting king crimson vinyl and every album with him is just a beauty. 3 of a perfect pair is my personal favorite with him
That technique of overloading the chorus on his amp sounds fantastic…
I was cracking my head for like 3 months triying to know how to do the weird sound that Adrian do, you gave me the answer, thank you very much
overloading..? what do you mean by that? :) i'm trying to understand

This video keeps getting recommended to me and I keep watching it. Such a great guitar solo.

Totally agree, plus his Bob Dylan impersonation on 'Flakes' is absolutely hilarious!
remain in light tour..i was in bologna for that concert..best in my life..ade is amazing
Fucking paved the way for great music - Adrian, you are the king, man.

He got mentioned on Guardians of the Galaxy 3! 😎
What part? :)
@@rafaelhernandez5238 in the end credits Adam warlock mentions Adrian belew as his favorite musical artist when he was with and not with king crimson
@@nepstruesom5100 I might have to watch that movie now. Adrian is one of the most under-rated guitarist out there!
It's like he's physically wrenching the sounds out of something that's organic & suffering.. 😶 He played for Bowie briefly too. Still inspiring to watch after all this time.. 🙏
Express tone god. There are two guitar players from that time that imo were so creative. Arto Lindsey and Adrian Belew
Oh my god! Ding ding ding!!!
He's an absolute musical genius. And this is just one side of many. His Beatle-esque pop songs are amazing.
Hearing the album Remain In Light for the first time while in a record store (back when it came out) made me an instant fan. I put him at the top along with Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and Bill Nelson.
Bill Nelson doesn't get mentioned enough.
Amen, the be Bop Deluxe stuff is magical
Saw him three times. Was worth every penny..
He is one of the greatest "Stunt" guitarists out there.
I saw him on this tour with the Talking Heads. Mind blowing.
he was even better when he played with his earlier bands the bears. although this is rare and super cool. saw this tour. one of the greats and still playin

Pov: you are Adam Warlock
Dude had a whammy bar and still bent the neck
AB is wild as all outdoors
funny that the Young Frusciante was a copy of Belew during his solos
High praise of frusciante. Borderline insult to adrian.
A friend made a comment to me the other day about how nobody plays guitar like Jeff Beck I said the closest I could think of was Adrian Belew.
Just checked his discography and I have a mere 21 albums by other artist on which he played (including King Crimson) and his first three solo albums. Yes, I like Adrian Belew, I must get more of his solo work.

Saw him with Zappa, Bowie, King Crimson and The Talking Heads and he is the Twang Bar King
Great clip of a phenomenal live performance
I'll bet they couldn't wait to get him off the stage because he was taking over the whole show. Love that guy.
No one sounds like Belew on the guitar. He is in rarified air with Beck, Holdsworth, and maybe Van Halen.
That was a good time in the world. Though we didn't really know it.
Red pants Adrien is a beast! I love him ;)
Belew did all the guitarwok for Tom Tom Club's 1st album also. Funky af.
Absolutamente Espetacular!!! 🤩
Pretty sure we wouldn't have Primus without Adrian.
pretty sure we wouldn´t have King Crimson 3 (discipline, beat, 3 of a perfect..) without Adrian...
I didn’t know Belew could do that.
Adrian Belew is a MONSTER on guitar.!
Walking the dead.
That's like his trademark solo style throughout the years.
this man is insane, this is why i love him
Oh, that's why!!
This video makes me happy🤩
De acuerdo contigo, el mejor!
You should check out his years with King Crimson.
Love Adrian. Dude really paved the way for noise rock musicians to use guitars to make crazy ass sounds lmaoo
He’s good at adding color over some solid comping anyway
Wow !!!
Amazing !!!!!
still love it!!
One of a kind
Jimi: not bad, kid…

Long Live Tina
Well he is the twang bar king
Very nice
Best of all times imo
Saw him not so long ago with Todd Rundgren, do a tribute to David Bowie
Genius
Brutal!
Damn right.
Best of all Times. Imo
Wizzard love it
Adrian. with that neck . The bend, the guitar squonch! He's beyond compare! Nothing sounds like Adrian!
Please sir, may I have some more ...?
Almost like if Zappa and Hendrix had a baby.

Ridiculously great!
Guitar is extension of his body.
Wich part of his body precisly, i hope you're refering to his arms

Pretty much all analog back then, too. It's in the fingers more than anything else.
