The most powerful place in China is not that a few people are working hard,But 1.4 billion people are working hard.
This is not the power of a nation, it is the power of a culture that has accumulated over thousands of years.

I would also suggest you google "tofu-dreg project" to find out about the reality of modern Chinese infrastructure. Having lived in Beijing between 2005-2007, it was an inspiration to watch the devotion and enthusiasm the Chinese people had to work and develop their country. One day passing a building, next day passing -instead of a building -a deep hole with foundation being laid for large apartment complex. Next day 10 floors higher. Next day ten more stories. They've recruited tens of thousands of engineers worldwide, including from Taiwan to accomplish this. My money is that they will have it before then. Now, the clown POTUS banned the sale of chips to China, China will produce the world's best chips. In future when China build, manufacture & consume the world's best of everything themselves, let's guess who would be crying foul that China is not buying their stuff - e.g. like Australia.
It's a given that China will be ahead and for a long time as they have millions of STEM graduates produced yearly - no country can match them there. Just look at their very young space project commanders compared to the grandfathers of others.

My secondary residential street is a pothole-riddled mess.
You know where all the money goes to in America? The military, that's where. So we can intervene in other countries' civil wars.
Anyway, our roads are falling apart and our rail lines are ancient. The only construction deemed necessary are those on Billionaire's Row to accommodate the super-wealthy. What a waste of money for a small number of people.
America has fallen so far behind in construction because almost no one cares or has a sense of pride. I know China is far from being the perfect country but we can certainly learn some useful things from them and adapt some of their skills to help make America great again.

a good video on one of the aspects why China excels in mega construction. The other aspects include a motivated and disciplined workforce, and a balanced and efficient approach to mediating conflicting concerns. If the US wants to be successful in Build Back Better, she probably has no problem in inventing / adopting best technologies to achieve the task; but the American people need to be motivated to help it succeed, not litigating everything to death; and the government needs to learn to be accountable. If the Americans consider the freedom to resist and obstruct and even smear at will a fundamental value, then don't even bother - Build Back Better would only be plagued by budget overruns, repeatedly missed deadlines, and lackluster results.

China only needs political and social stability and prosperity will take care of itself. China does not need or want to be numero uno but others will find it hard to claim top spot as long as China is around. So far it has only done well in manufacturing, when it starts butting into services ... that will be something. It's only a matter of time. China has advantage over Japan and Korea as she doesn't need to take orders from the US and has a huge internal market. Plus, local Chinese run the economic show in ASEAN and China can count on them to help add another billion people to the huge market. With a 2.5 to 3 billiion "safe" market including central and south Asia, manufacturing economy of scale alone will be a formidable factor for other high cost countries aka US and Europe to match. Not saying it's impossible, just saying it's hard and haven't even factored in other markets.

@@lcg3092 "industrial wage" that term is probably used in China. I used to look at a lot of economic data for a living and I have never heard of that. That is probably why you could not find it for Portugal. So the best thing to look for at other countries is use the term they use. Most of the world use "Avarage salary" & "Minimum Wage" mostly those two together.
As for china catching up with the Portugal Average salary it will have to double its economy that is something extremely difficult to do in ten years. Here are some of the factors almost every country is struggling with Chinese imports and how they are affecting their job market for their own citizens and are making incentives for their economies to create their own products and investing in Tech as well.
So the next mega growth for China it will have to come from internal markets rather than doubling the amount of exports as every country with a gdp of per cap opf $1k at least is on the drive to not be an importer of basic stuff. If China can find a way to to grow its economy through internal own markets rather than exports maybe by r5aising the salary of rural people and then sell goods to them then there is a Chance of that. When looking at these things look at what China is doing and what the Other Side is also doing then you can get a clear picture at predicting the next outcome as 2000 growth rates and economic polices of each country are no longer the same.

The REAL reason China has "world record construction speeds" is because its engineers take unwarranted short cuts with the building of such things. What that produces are undersea road tunnels which leak, skyscrapers which shake (and even collapse), and concrete walls (and bricks) which can be (literally) picked apart with bare fingers. Don't sell any fancy tech to China. They'll reengineer all and make them better.
But seeing these awesome construction machineries, it seems that China is also quite capable in really cool innovation..
Best luck to China with $1.48 trillion project to break ahead in chips, IoT, and AI industries by 2025.

Too late, their copying/reverse engineering phase is over. They are now already the leading edge in new technology such as AI, EV, 5G/6G, quantum computing, fusion technology, etc. The student (China) has passed the teacher (US).
