Do you know if you can use your phone also for Maschine plus to sample? I record often some lyrics and would be nice and fast to use a sample like that(in stand alone mode) hopefully only with a mini jack.
Yo so when I did this the first time all I had to do was press play and it would record automatically now I have to hit record and play at the same time on my SP and phone. Is there a setting for this?
noob question here (i haven't received my sp404 mk2 yet) why do you recommend a usbc to usbc instead of just using the phones audio out to the audio in I have prepared and purchased some needed cables one of them being a stereo 1/8th inch audio to two mono 1/4ths can i just use that for my phone to sp?
It's a bit smoother with one cable and the SP acts as an interface, so the output is routed to the phone too! + MIDI. So you could record video of yourself playing the beat back and capture the audio, prank call using fx on your voice etc. lol
Depends what inputs you have on your audio system, but generally it should have an aux or RCA input so you can connect it to there from the SP's main outputs or headphone outputs with appropriate cables.
Hilo to all! I wonder if there is a way to decrease the usb-input-level direct on the SP404 mk2? The External Source button is lightning red sometimes, so it seems to peak.
Question for you, what gen iphone are you sampling off of in this video? I'm trying to sample off an iphone 13 right now with a USB-C to lightning cable and when i connect it and hit ext source, the audio does not play down the SP404 line
I just got a 29$ lightning to usb c cord and it doesn’t work. What does work is when you have a cheapie 10$ cord from bodega that has usb-c on one side and old usb on the other THEN use the apple usb to lightning adapter. I dont know why the cord doesnt transfer info ? Maybe it just charges iphone with usb c? Peace
I have a question. Since you are playing the audio from your phone, which is probably streamed at a bitrate of 128, Wouldn't that sample you've recorded be of poor quality? Even more after turning it back to wave? Or does this sampler just make everything brand new again?
No, a phone doesn’t automatically realtime-stream/convert and output any audio MP3 compressed at 128 kbps by default. It’s as good as any playback device so it all depends on what you’re playing back.
I guess my question is more like this, Say I'm making a track, and I want the best quality clap I could put into my drum loop. Would it be a better quality clap to mic my own hands clapping, or would it be better to find a 320 sample of a clap?
@mikezoltan3227 More likely a good sample than using the phone mic even if they’re pretty good nowadays. Not that compressed as an MP3 in that case, like WAV/FLAC/AIFF etc. But most of all, just trust your ears! If it sounds good enough to you none the technical aspects matter :)
Some apps might compress and process the recording from the mic anyways, and even if you have the best mic in the world you can still get a shitty recording. More important factors are the space you’re recording in, mic distance etc. That will have a more dramatic effect than compression algorhithms. So sample away, both with your own recordings and others 🙌🏻
@OGknownforsmokin Hit the red REC button, adjust RECORD SETTING if you need to. Mix will sample both the input (EXT SOURCE) and whats playing internally, ExtIn will sample only what’s going in.
Mix is a button? I’m not in front of the 404 rn. How long does the sample record. I think i recorded a sample by accident yesterday and didn’t know how I did it. .. either way I’m appreciative of your time bro. Thanks
ya they skimped on the sequencer, annoying... they trying to sell verslabs i guess... cheap move... if people like the old way of doing it they can buy the old SP...
UPDATE: Great Tutorial. For people watching in the future, you are now able to record from Chromatic Mode into the Pattern Sequencer.
Pretty talented man. I am waiting on my 404 in the mail and this video really excited me.
Thank you! Hope you have fun with it

Thank you man 😁
Peace. Great vid! So 3 mos later I guess the update allows us to record our chromatics now. I played my B line using it.
If I don't have an interface nor monitors, just a regular audio system, how can I connect the SP? Thank you!

@@BlezzBeats Thank you, brother.

this is amazing! 🔥🔥🔥
I connected with usbC to usbC, hit the external source but the no signal coming in from the phone into the SP; What am I doing wrong?😮💨

Not sure about the iPhones but I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S10
@@BlezzBeats interesting. is the port for a galaxy S10 a USB-C cable?
@@connorehman6949 Yeap! USB-C to USB-C
@@connorehman6949 Maybe the lightning cable doesn't transfer audio by default to get you to buy extra peripherals like the iRig etc?

I would think my own hands would be a better quality sample because it hadn't been compressed

at 12:10 when you are riding the volume knob - what is happening there? Is that somehow affecting the Tape Echo fx you have selected? Thx
is the Mic/Line input in front of the SP404 stereo or mono???
Mono
skip back then auto detect for bass hits?
Ye that works

yeah, i plug my phone in, and press play on youtube - nothing happens.
