A Bad Morning For

It all began like any other weekday. SEPTA trolley car #9028, like many others that morning, was departing Elmwood carbarn to deadhead down to 80th & Eastwick to begin the day's work on the Route 36 line. Instead, it pulled out of the carbarn onto Elmwood Avenue, and promptly lost propulsion power.
In-service car #9071, coming westbound ended up stuck behind it. Several other trolley cars were subsequently delayed exiting the depot, since the blockage left them with no place to go. The decision was made to take #9071 out of service, its passengers having to wait for the next car, couple it up to the dead #9028, and push it around the corner and back into the carbarn. With both cars clear of the street, service would resume, albeit minus two cars, at the start of the morning rush hour.
    But wait, there's more!
After having to let a few other trolleys get by, the operator of #9028 pulls out the carbarn with trolley #9030 as a replacement, turning east towards Center City instead, to basically get back on schedule, and only missing the short leg from 80th & Eastwick.
Then, after a few more cars get by, shop personnel have charge of #9028 and #9071, using the #9071 to shove the dead car out of the carbarn, and then reverse back down the street to clear the entrance rails, and proceed to shove #9028 back into the carbarn and a shop bay for some TLC.

I'm surprised SEPTA didn't get fined for using non-ADA compliant vehicles. it probably lost power cuz either A) the car is older then I am and im 36, or B) the power line is from the 1950s and cant handle anything more. I didn't know the trolleys could link up like the LRVs on the 101/102.

No fines because they are grandfathered in, since they pre-date ADA, and most of the stations in the tunnel are also not ADA-accessible yet.
LOL the cars are only 37 years old (except for cars 9000 and 100 on the 101/102, which came in 1980, so those two are 38 years old), so pretty much the same age as you! Incidentally, I did find out later the issue was with a component on the car itself that failed. Just a case of "stuff happens." The power systems are more than sufficient to handle the fleet as they have been upgraded and/or replaced over the last 20 to 30 years.
Yep, they can indeed couple up. They do it in emergency situations like this one, but for a summer in the early 1990's, they experimentally ran two runs on Route 13 and one run on Route 10 as 2-car MU jobs just to see how it would work out. While physically a success, the overall results were mixed, and it was decided it was not worth the effort to continue.

Septa is extended the route 15 trolley to 69th street transportation center but they might abandoned the 15 to use buses instead

That's just a suggestion in that consultation plan that was released. Nothing is set in stone, (extension of the 15 to 69th Street very unlikely for a variety of reasons) and years away from happening. And it also did have the option of keeping 15 rail, which is already most likely due to the upcoming streetcar plans.

Poor #9028, At Least There Were Not Any Route Delays! (Maybe There Was!)

Minor ones on Route 36 due to the temporary loss of 2 cars from the rotation, until they got replacements out on the line.

FaceOfAPurpleTurtle: I knew that 9028 was disabled when I saw no interior lights on. If the power was off in the line voltage no trolleys would have been able to run at all. No emergency battery power here.
