- The annual Mammoth Mountain MX is approaching, and Jeremy McGrath just put the finishing touches on his most recent purchase - a Kawasaki KX500 that he found in Arizona on Craig's List - in time for the Open class on the mountain. MC invited us out to join him as he broke in his big-bore and put it through its paces for the first time. What modern improvements can you spot on the big green beast?
At nearly 50 years old, Jeremy can still throw around a 500 like a BMX bike.
made my day to see Jeremy again, looking older now but as nice as ever, total respect for this man, and great to see he still enjoys the thrill of mx.

I raced a 91 KX500 at my local district in the open expert class when I was 23 years old, what a handful that bike was, it taught you throttle control, finesse and body position like no other. Love hearing the bass of that 500 compared to that 125

Sound Enthusiast yep he seems to be riding a lot more this year and doing more races, nice to see him doing it for the enjoyment of riding and I’d love to see him race the vets race in the Uk later in the year, brill rider !
Seeing Mcgrath on anything but a Honda triggers me. The days of Bailey, Hanna and Mcgrath seem like yesterday to me.

Hanna n Bailey was the old days (good tho). McGrath introduced a new level of riding which continues today.

I love it. If you pull up next to him, he automatically goes into race mode. Lol. He needs to smoke you. Great video. I loved my CR 500’s. An open class two stroke is a good thing. Remember the Carlsbad Grand Prx? I wheeled my 500 the entire length of the drag strip. I bet Jeramy done that. Great video. Cool redo on that bike!
McGrath always appears to be such a great person! Badass rider with god only knows how many titles👍
I love seeing videos where guys obviously feel uncomfortable. Not a knock, its humanizing to see a man like McGrath who won so many championships and races still perform while obviously uncomfortable with his setup. It's awesome and a good boost for us amateurs in terms of confidence to see top pros do that. Way to rock that speed fin too... lmao
I have a 1995 KX500 and love it. Will never get rid of it. I ride it in the sand dunes. It's a beast for sure!

Matthew Perez your correct about the frame but the motor he used was not out of a cr500 but out of the quadzilla 500 race quad.. check it out. My buddy had one when I was in high school, it was very ridiculous

Pastrana's 500cc was 100% a CR500 engine in the RMZ450 chassis. I remember them talking about it on the straight rhythem event he raced it in, as well as on his nitro circus channel.

Why do they always take the ugly 500cc frame? Take the 250 steel frame, put in the 500 engine. All problems solved
A 500 ridden fast will break a 250 frame.
