I truly love how the first part is her talking about experiences that probably all of us have felt & the second part is the same things but it’s more personal to her. & then the third part is her asking happiness & the light for everyone else around her. It just so perfect & so pretty & i just f*cking love it.
For me part iii is the highlight, literally, but parts i and ii are perfect as introduction, to build tension and make the light in the end shine even brighter, so usually I'm watching the whole thing, with reactions anyway... But obviously I'm in a minority, as it's part ii that has about four or even six times the listens on Spotify... Well, I've been a jazz lover for decades, for many junger folks the sick beat in ii may be more relatable, and ofc then there's that sad/depressing vs. uplifting thing, the mood... Anyway, Raye is a musical genius and great vocalist, a true artist as you said, and she can do it all... And one more observation: I've seen several young (early 20ies) reactors who were pleasantly surprised by the jazz ending and real instruments (brass, upright bass etc...). One said like she always felt somehow attracted by jazz but never went deeper than the stuff she came across occasionally and randomly, but Raye really made her want to hear more of that... I loved to hear that, e.g. Raye talks a lot about Nina Simone, would be great if she could help to hand over the torch of great artists like Nina or Ella to a younger generation... Btw. Raye's cover of "Feelin' Good" is a great listen, imo not only for jazz lovers... Peace and love from Bavaria!
